The Giants magic number to clinch a playoff spot is now 10 (combination of Giants wins and Eagles losses until someone passes the Eagles in the conference standings). I don't think it will take long to get there, especially if we can beat the Eagles twice. I'm not too hopeful for a division sweep but it is very possible at this point.

All the easy games are behind us now...two undefeated teams left on the calendar...but I'm confident we'll win at least 6-7 more games and have at least one playoff home game if not a first round bye

Here's the remaining schedule:
vs. Arizona
@ Philadelphia
vs. San Diego
vs. Atlanta
@ Denver
vs. Dallas
vs. Philadelphia
@ Washington
vs. Carolina
@ Minnesota (hopefully this game won't matter to either team...otherwise it could get ugly)

it should have been an easy win. what the hell is going on with this team now? its like the saints took all their dignity away and now they have nothing left.

i'm getting really nervous with what is coming up...not counting the bye week, we have the eagles twice plus the chargers, falcons, broncos, and cowboys all in a row.

at least there's the panthers and redskins to beat down in weeks 15 and 16 if it comes down to crunch time.

We're only 1.5 games back of the Cowboys and only half a game below being a wild card team...I'm positive we will still make the playoffs. The key games will be Atlanta (potential wild card tie-breaker) and back-to-back games with Dallas and Philly (and all three are being played at home). We should only need 5 more wins, two practically are guaranteed against Washington and (unfortunately) the Panthers. The Vikings should have their bye locked up by then and won't be playing as hard, so that's a pretty good chance of a win if we still need it.

^How is the Panthers game a guaranteed win?? I'm not a Carolina fan, but they've been playing a lot better than ya'll recently. They almost beat a team that beat the ever-living fuck out of ya'll.

I'm struggling to see how you're so confident that the Giants are going to get 5 wins with that remaining schedule. I'm not saying it's not going to happen, but it's definitely going to be a lot tougher than you think it's going to be.

of course its going to be tough, but this is a tough team. if any team can come back from this its the Giants, specifically because fo the kind of coach Tom Coughlin is.

At some point you have to break yourself of this "there's still a chance" mentality. I love the panthers but that doesn't stop me from trying to be realistic about what is going on in the organization.

Reasons the Giants won't make the playoffs:

1) Secondary is terrible - they get abused by QB's that know how to make reads

2) Lack of a real run game - probably the most overrated starter in the game and Bradshaw doesn't have what it takes year. Fumbling at critical times for example.

3) Hurt QB - I admire his wanting to play but the guy ain't right

4) Inexperience at wideout - Manningham is a flash in the pan and Steve Smith is a #2 they are trying to make a #1. Other than that, they have 2 rooks.

Face it, this just isn't their year. If they do somehow backdoor their way in, it would mean a game in Minn or NO and I know you don't want that kind of embarrassment heaped on your team.

The wildcard spots are going to come down to PHI/ATL/DAL

And that point is most assuredly not week 9 when you're 5-4. At least I hope that's not what you're implying.

If you guys don't want Brandon Jacobs anymore, the Packers organization would happily take him.

You remember when Chris Harris laid the lumber on Brandon Jacobs last year in the regular season? Chris Harris remembers it, because the hit separated Harris' shoulder. Thats what happens when you collide with Jacobs. You get hurt, cause dude is a fucking mack truck.

Any RB who gets 4.6 ypc over a career and strikes fear in the heart of almost every defender on the field...cannot be overrated. It is as simple as that.

^Not saying he's bad running back...he's a very good one. He's just having a pretty average season considering he's touted as one of the best running backs in the league coming into the season. I think that's where the "overrated" comments are coming from

Mike Alstott use to strike fear in opposing defenders back in the day, but he wasn't one of the best running backs in the league.

The reason you aren't seeing last year, or the year befores performance from Jacobs is because is the #1 threat for a defense. Teams have to bring another man or two into the box to stop him, because if he gets past the line of scrimmage, he will truck the secondary and pick up big yards. This opens room for receivers and I think is the reason the giants WR have been playing well (minus the past couple games).

We one the superbowl in 2007 because we had Brandon Jacobs and Plaxico Burress; defenses could only stop one at a time effectively and it let us exploit the other (that and our defense was teh shit).

Best bye week ever. We are back in this thing. Bottom line is we have to come out and play. its all up to the team right now.

We are coming out of the bye as healthy as we have been all season. The only starter out is Kenny Phillips. Aaron Ross will take the field, Michael Boley is starting to make things happen, Chris Canty is going to beef up our line, and looks like Clint Sintim is going to continue to get more playing time. We just have to get to the damn QB.

It's funny when the only play anyone can ever remember about a guy was a hit 2+ years ago. I know y'all would never admit it but that guy is so overrated it isn't even funny. Jonathon Stewart is a big back that has wiggle and break runs open. Jacobs has no versatility and his best play is a dive for 3 yards. What is even more embarrasing is that they put in the supposed scatback on goal line plays.

Jacobs is a guy that needs to be stopped at the line, once he hits the secondary, he is going to break hips and pick up yards. Defenses know this and thats why they bring more people in the box. Teams are figuring out how to stop Jacobs some of the time, but in doing so the secondary is weaker and this is why the Giants passing game was one of the best in the league through week 5.

Injuries have been and are the achilles heal for the Giants, but as mentioned, this buy has given us some much needed rest and the key defensive players that will finally be playing are going to really fill the gaps and make this team shine.

We are 1 game behind Dallas for the division lead and tied with Philly and Atlanta for the wild card spots (plus GB but we won't play them head-to-head). We'll be fine as long as we win those 3 games and at least one between Denver and Carolina (and again, hoping the game in Minnesota won't matter)

f all that, only picking up those wins will let us slaw out way into the playoffs. I want to run the damn table and get in there hot and actually win. The Giants need to turn this thing around. Jacobs needs to break some tackles, and if they are going to throw in extra guysi n the box our receivers need to make plays and get open.

Most importantly the defense has got to quit playing so soft and step it up. Our pass rush is supposed to be the strongest part of the team and its total ass right now. How can we have Osi and Tuck on the same line and neither getting close to the QB? And if they are both getting doubled why are opposing offenses making BIG plays against our secondary? Got to turn this thing around right now and quit f'ing around.

If that's all you can remember about Brandon Jacobs then you REALLY shouldn't be trying to flex nuts in a thread about the Giants.

you're funny man

I was watching football when you were a twinkle in your mom's eye

I already broke down this guy but lets do this again. This supposed "great" back that is so feared by defenses everywhere has 2 touchdowns and 0 100 yard games this season. On top of that, his longest career run from scrimmage is 43 yards, yet Giant fan thinks he is God's gift to running the ball.

Also, I didn't bring up the Landry hit, you did (look up). That is the only reply you gave when I broke down why your team won't make the playoffs earlier in this page.

other than an ugly 4th quarter by the defense, this was a pretty good game.

we are still tied with Philly and Green Bay for the 2 wild card spots, but at least now Atlanta is a game back and we hold a tie breaker over them.

We lost head-to-head with Philly and have a worse conference record than Green Bay (5-3 vs 4-3), so we're currently the odd team out. If we beat Philly in 3 weeks, then we will have the tie-breaker over them based on division record.

If we beat Dallas then it won't matter anyway, because we'll be tied for 1st int he division and hold the tie-breaker there

this team is really in disarray right now and it sucks; it's hard being a giants fan and watching them be this inconsistent and confused almost. all the guys on defense can't seem to get on the same page with each other, coverage assignments are missed, and the visual lack of enthusiasm from both the offense and defense is really nagging me. it's almost like they just expect the opposing team to not play at all so then it'd be a cakewalk in the end for them.
