IT'S A GENERATOR

I'm betting that the arc reactor only had so much energy to make the suit go. Probably still had plenty of power for life support.

I can't quite remember if some time had passed between events..if that was the case, he would've had time to create a new one.

I know when he was flying to max altitude, the suit kept reminding him that the generator was running out of power.

at the beginning of the movie, it was stated that it had just enough power to do small things but the other one was an upgrade

the original reactor was only designed to keep the shrapnel electromagnet running for the balance of tony's life

it generated more power than it needed to and there were benefits to be had from that, but it wasn't the point

the optimized reactor he made at home was designed to power the suit and generated far more power

which is why the suit doesn't function at 100% when coupled with the original reactor

still, it's a reactor, not a battery

May 7th eh?

I re-watched Iron Man earlier tonight...I had gotten a BlueRay player for Christmas and bought some BR flicks in January, one of which was Iron Man...but it was actually the animated...so I got the real one today and watched it for the 2nd time...very entertaining movie...looking forward to the new one

also one of the deleted scenes has Ghostface Killah giving Tony Stark a couple girls haha

I didn't hate spiderman 3 nearly as much as everyone else seemed to.

A let down for sure after 2, and lots of wasted potential, but not awful.

Super after-credits spoiler. Do not read unless you want to know. Paramount has already had Youtube pull down several clips of the scene.

soooooooooo its pretty damn awesome. Just got home from the screening. Salt & Demitri the Greek were there hosting it lol.

I don't hardcore follow comics, so I can't say how well it correlated, but I thought i was pretty badass. Not as good as the first, but I still enjoyed it! Lots of whitty one-liners, but nothing too cheesy.

And if you go, stay till after the credits

Short Review:
Graphics are very good. Plot is meh. Virtually no character development. It's worth seeing, but the first one is better.

My review (This will be tough to do without spoilers, so I apologize for it being ridiculously vague on many points.) :

Iron Man 2 has much of the allure of the first installment of the series, but not quite as much pop. Don't get me wrong, I liked IM2 a lot, and will gladly go back and see it again in theaters. However, the plot line seemed almost rushed at times, and then a bit sluggish at others. The presence of multiple story lines was actually pretty well integrated in my opinion, though some of them were kind of brushed over at first.

Overall acting was pretty consistent with the first. Personalities were pretty well followed, and I much preferred Don Cheadle as Rhodie than Terrence Howard. Plus, I just have a hard time seeing Howard as an action star despite the fact that 99% of the action is CGI. My only real issue as far as the acting goes was that Scarlett Johansson's character was left somewhat under developed until the last 30 minutes of the movie. However, I give full credit to where they left her character to go from here, but really hope they don't even attempt a solo movie for her.

Effects-wise, it was pretty good, though clunky at times. Then again we are talking about flying, reactor-powered, energy weapon-armed, power suits. I forgive a bit of clunkiness here and there. Most of the close-quarters fights were done very well in my opinion. The wider range stuff suffered from the classic symptom of being too fast and jumpy with little actual focus on what was really happening. This is no where near the motion-sickness inducing shit from the likes of Transformers, however.

Overall, I thought it was great. Sure, it doesn't have quite the impact that the first one did, but then again, very few sequels ever have or ever will achieve that wow factor again. I think they did a good job with this one, and I am still looking forward to the remainder of the Avengers stuff.

All right, highly enjoyable movie. Like the first Iron Man, it's a lot of fun. You will have a good time watching this movie if you have a soul.

My favorite thing about it is that Tony Stark is still definitely Tony Stark—smooth, fun-loving, all that stuff—but has really matured and follows the character arc started in the last movie. It was actually pretty inspiring hear him talk about Iron Man as causa pacis and a nuclear deterrent. This movie emphasizes his vulnerability as a human, and the action makes him confront the fact that he can't save the world by himself.

There is also almost constantly a lot of straight-up cool shit on the screen, and I don't just mean explosions and whatnot. There are crazy holographic computer interfaces, futuristic architecture, seaside vistas, an urban race course, just all kinds of neat stuff. The environment the story takes place in really rises to the level of the action. It's definitely a post-Iron Man world.

Not everything was so great, though. Like mawle427 pointed out, the Black Widow may as well not have even been in the movie. Her characterization is downright ephemeral. She just kinda floats like a ghost alongside the plot. Samuel L. Jackson phoned in his performance as Nick Fury. Don Cheadle suffered at the hands of an inconsistent script.

Speaking of, you get the feeling that an awful lot of material got cut from the film. There's really not much pacing, just fits and starts of action. You're introduced right away to Tony's toxic affliction, which is good because it shows that even Iron Man is vulnerable, but what's happening to him doesn't get explained until later. Even then, there's not that much suspense about whether Tony will overcome his weakness. That's mostly because he pretty much gives up on himself and turns self-destructive. That's fine for a character turn, but you have to be careful with that shit. If the protagonist doesn't care, why should the audience? The supporting characters (Pepper, Rhodey, etc.) don't even seem that concerned until Tony is very obviously way far gone.

Mickey Rourke was dynamite but underused. There was too much of Sam Rockwell as a scenery-chewing Justin Hammer. He did a great job, but he was never a credible threat, so he diluted the menace of Whiplash. Iron Man only encounters Whiplash twice, and the second time around, you could almost blink and miss him.

I probably sound more critical of it than I feel. It's just that the last Iron Man was practically a perfect movie, and the sequel has feet of clay. In all, it was a really good flick that I will see multiple times. It won't disappoint.

Whiplash and War Machine were better than expected. I didn't quite get some of the scientific stuff...true I'm not a scientist, but some of that shit he did in the lab leading up to the final scene just seemed made up.

Saw this at midnight and absolutely loved it. I am very curious how much got left on the cutting room floor, though. There have been an awful lot of scenes in trailers which weren't in the finished movie.

Also, did anyone see in the credits a guy listed as 10 Rings Thug? Who/when/where was this? I feel like that's pretty significant. I was thinking that there would be more of a buildup to the Mandarin in this movie...
