how about everyone goes where they want

Johnny Popcollar doesn't care what Johnny Hipsterbeard thinks of him, or vice versa, and they've got way more in common (besides their first names) than they'd like to admit

just drink your beer and have a good time

i don't find quarrel with you unless you are ruining my good time

^ agreed. it's unfortunate there are so many elitist pricks on both ends of the spectrum.

just go where you want and where you have fun. who cares about where someone else goes?

North Raleigh is essentially the hillsdale of 2015."

To be fair, I was just trying to incite more of a flamewar for the most part and it failed miserably since you were the only one that took notice... but in very general terms ITB is old money and the upper class neighborhoods in N. Raleigh are new money.

In the same post as that my REAL point stands. And that is who gives a fuck where people enjoy going out as long as they enjoy it?

Amen! I personally think what matters the most is the people you go with, not the place you go. Who cares if you're having a good time with your friends?

i'm not complaining about the types of people who go to those bars, which is the difference. I don't like stool pigeons because it always smells funny and has a staff that acts as if they're in a high class establishment when they are pretty far from that mark. I don't like the bassment because its basically partying in a college dorm room, and if I wanted to do that I would go to a college dorm room. Nappertandy's is alright and I don't have anything against the atmosphere of that place one way or another. the staff is legit and prices reasonable.

The key to enjoying both scenes is layering. One might choose to don their favorite jeans with a vertically striped black Perry Ellis button down. After having a few drinks and people watching at Solas you promptly strip the button down to reveal a Municipal Waste t-shirt that was hiding underneath. Now you're heading to The Jackpot for cheap pitchers of PBR and pool with random people. The key to making this work is finding shoes that can walk the line between uber hipster and uber yuppie. Might I recommend something made by Rocket Dog or Born? I'd never wear them personally, but they certainly fit the bill. Merrells on my feet make my soul complete. Just hit the streets son. We run this shit.

WE
RUN,

THIS
SHIT.

I've been to many bars in raleigh and many clubs in raleigh, I think what bothers me about most places on Glenwood South is that they can't decide what they are. They are the bar/club hybrids where there is a dance floor (the basement/porch) and the music is too loud to cary on a converstaion. That being said I usually have fun when I go, but I'd rather go to a spot that knows if it is a club or a bar.

Haven't seen PR's mentioned yet, it's a good spot.

^3 Then please explain what you meant by "this explains itself." I don't see where you get the college dorm room reference, but ok... To each his own. I've only been to Stool Pigeons once and it wasn't that bad to me, so I really don't have a bad opinion of it and I guess I don't pay that much attention to how the staff acts when they're slammed.

it reminds me of a college dorm/apartment because it has that feel of "hey lets find as many neat and cool things and cram them all into our small otherwise undecorated space" that you experience when you first get to college and well throughout.

i said it explained itself mostly because that part i was trolling since i'm hungover, the canes lost and i have nothing to do at work today. that being said, i did mean it, i just otherwise wouldn't have said it. what it meant was that i feel most people who haven't just turned 21 and have been to a plethora of bars would realize the painful flaws of these places without much effort and would agree. i guess i was wrong in that assumption.

Very true, but the shift from your normal crowd during the week to the metrosexual popped collar guido's that go to The Hive on your typical Friday/Saturday night is shocking.

Of course, I walked out of Slim's last night and saw some dude rolling into the Bush Bee next door that was obviously wearing his girlfriends' shirt and was only hours removed from a tanning bed, so I guess the word is out among the Glenwood South crowd that their satellite campus is fully established.

This is a pretty good description of weekends at the Busy Bee now.
Apparently this position has already been put forward. Gave it one last try this Saturday and it was douchebag central.

Well, I'm 22, and I know I'm still young and probably haven't experienced Raleigh's finest bars. But, that being said, I practically grew up in a bar. My parents had one from the time I was roughly 7 until I was 18, and I worked the door for our most recent one when I was 17. So, trust me, I don't just go where everyone else goes, I choose to go to the places because I enjoy them. I know what I like in a bar and what I don't like... I really like Napper Tandy's because it reminds me a lot of the bar we had. The Bassment is just a fun place if I feel like dancing and playing ski-ball. Stool Pigeons didn't seem to have that bad of an atmosphere, so I don't hate it.

The type of bars I DON'T like are the ones with pretentious assholes who get all bitchy when a certain caliber of people "invade" their normal hangout spot. Guess what? There will always be people at a bar you don't care for, and some of those new people may really like your regular bar and decide they want to have it as their normal spot, too. If you don't like it... get a straw and suck it up, because I can guarantee the bar owner really doesn't give a shit if you don't like those people because those people are paying said barowner's bills.

(That wasn't an attack on seriouscat, just a general statement concerning all the bitching in this thread.)

Napper Tandy's is RiRa right?

V Power district, right across from 42nd Street? I'm old, I need context.

yes, and the only thing i am reminded of is being back in staten island...take a drive down falls/six forks/durant and drive through any of the numerous neighborhoods going up and say with a straight face that those lots pale in comparison with itb lots

[Edited on May 22, 2009 at 2:23 PM. Reason : there really is no comparison]

I just like going to bars where it's not so loud I have to shout at the person next to me.

So nowhere on Glenwood South.

Went to Mosaic friday night.

When did they get the girls dressed like pirate whores dancing with torches? I felt like I was at a really cheap version of Epcot Center.

I took a buddy their after he returned from an AF deployment.

He was amazed that they were charging $5+ for what was widely regarded as pisswater in Kyrgystan when he'd been there a week earlier.

I wish Glenwood South would stay out of the heart of downtown.

It seemed like Landmark was having a cultural exchange with the G105 crowd last night.

i got dragged there for a friend's birthday once. i don't really like any place where you can't have a conversation, and i was definitely not cool enough to get on the dance floor. my gf was mostly annoyed by the blaring, ear-splitting moroccan techno bullshit music or whatever that was.

as far as raleigh goes...

1. been to jackpot once, def. not cool enough to go back w/o the accompaniment of a regular there (and i don't live in raleigh anymore)
2. the only 2 places i went to consistently were Flying Saucer (every Wed.) and Mitch's (for nostalgia reasons), oh, and Mojo's for cheap PBR, yay.
3. i don't get how people can afford to go out every night. if i did that, id have no money for anything else except rent (maybe) and ramen noodles.

At least I'll always have Slim's.

i haven't lived in raleigh since raleigh times opened but i keep hearing that it's actually worthwhile.

hay remember JILLIANS? i went once and it was nothing but 40 year old asian men trying to grab the boobs of 18 year old girls. that's an awesome side of raleigh i don't miss...but then again, that happens anywhere.
