I think everyone is up in arms because since she's 14 and obviously A-Rod is much older, it would be classified as statutory rape (even if it was consensual).

Well, straight up rape is not particularly funny, but it just doesn't seem like that's what he was talking about AT ALL. It seemed to me that he was kidding about her kids getting knocked up at young ages, which they seem to be doing son. Nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious.

He didn't say that she should be forcefully raped or even joke about it. He was CLEARLY talking about consensual relations IMO, otherwise it isn't funny. If Palin's daughter got pregnant in his joke as the result of being violently raped, it ruins the whole point of the joke. So, I don't see the problem here even if it is technically statutory rape. He didn't suggest that anyone was doing anything against this girl's will in the joke, so the only reason the word rape even came into it was that the hypothetical father was older. If he'd said it about some fucking Jonas brother then I guess it wouldn't have been rape or some shit (Well maybe those fags are 20+, whatever though son, they might as well be 15).


Not to mention that Palin used this whole pregnant daughter thing to further push her fucked up no-condom agenda (A good bit of sense that makes.... ). I don't think this is anything out of line honestly and he went on to apologize for it repeatedly in a sincere manner. She keeps responding like a total bitch, which is just like her. What a dumbass son.

^ Oh I don't think he even thought about the rape concept when saying it, I really think he meant it as just a joke...

But it seems people are upset because no matter how you look at it, consensual or forceful, it still counts as statutory rape. : \

I think people are wrong on both sides... It was a very tasteless joke on his part but they need to get over it now that he's apologized.

i wouldn't be surprised if the joke was written by one of letterman's writers, but he's the one who has to take the heat for it because he told the joke despite the fact that he may not even have come up with it, so if that's what happened then you gotta give the guy some credit for using his status to cover up for someone else's error. that being said, i was watching when he said it during the top 10, and my immediate reaction was, "oh that bristol palin, she's at it again!" it's not like there's a fuckin late show action news eye in the sky helicopter following whatever happens at all times. these people base jokes off of what's reported in everyday news. you can't expect them to do their homework and find out just how many of sarah palin's family members were at a fucking yankees game over the weekend.

That's completely beside the point, though, because he was clearly referring to the daughter who had already gotten pregnant. He may not have known she wasn't at the game, and even if he had, it still would have been a joke at her expense.
