Where did you see that? I checked around briefly and couldn't find an article about it. If true, that is a huge loss for Barca.

Man City set to pull out of their bid to make Eto'o the highest paid player in the EPL.

now that would be interesting...but it looks like he's not gonna do it. The thing is, Man City is not prestigious, no matter how much its owners wish it were; and you can't necessarily buy prestige with money.

incidentally, being a Liverpool fan this offseason is like having the proverbial sword hanging over your head

according to sources, Eto'o wants Manchester United or Milan.

Coincidentally, those are the 2 teams that could afford him.

If he came to United, there goes the concern for goals that Tevez and Ronloldo provided. Eto'o could bang in 25-30 for a few more years still, especially in United's offense

and it would take a lot of the pressure off of the new kids Tosic, Valencia, and Obertan - give them time to grow into their roles

so SAF just announced hes not gonna be spending any of that ronaldo money, theyre done with transfers for the summer. that seems like a stupid decision. valencia plus obertan does not equal ronaldo plus tevez

What the fuck is going on with Man City. Theyve got Tevez, Santa Cruz, Bellamy, Bojan (sp?), plus attack minded people in Robinho, Elano, SWP, and Ireland. Yet they want to buy eto'o or adebayor? How about buying some defenders? Shit. They just sold Corluka last summer (dumb) and need lots more players. Liverpool bought agger and skrtel for under 7 each. Arbeloa for under 3. Aurelio free. I cant imagine there arent some solid CBs out there for 7-15 who arent named Lescott-ugly-hair. It bothers me theyre not just snatching up no nonsense defenders considering the money theyre talking on strikers.

In other news, I really think Liverpool are going to lose Alonso. And its going to crush my soul, and I think it will lock them in the 2-3 spot in the Prem.

Excited to not see Ronaldo.

Not excited to see Portsmouth fall apart. Whatever happened to the Kranjcar transfer rumors? Now seems like the perfect time for a team to come in and get him for cheap (~12?). Tottenham (Luka on the left now)? Arsenal (maybe not with Arshavin)? Anyone?

^ Get out of here with that shit. It's not Man U related.

I was sort of becoming a Newcastle fan over the past couple of years so I don't have a Prem favorite going into next season.

I think I'm leaning towards rooting for Everton if only for Howard in goal. I was pretty excited this year when they beat Man U in the FA Cup. Any Everton fans want to persuade me to support the original Merceysiders?

Everyone gets a hard on for attack minded players. It's harder to find a Vidic than it is an Adebayor.

i dont think theres any real big news. except for man city trying to get every striker in the world. looks like tevez wouldve gotten more playing time at man utd than man city this coming year with adebayor coming now.

downing to aston villa for 12 mil, seems like a bargain even though he had a down year. villa will either have a great combo with ashley young and downing on the wings, or it could mean young is on the way out since they both play left wing for the most part. chelsea, man utd and tottenham have been going after young, and he said he wants to play at man utd over the other teams.

I still think Tevez will start at City. Why does everyone think he's a bench player. Just because SAF didn't value him over a lethargic Berbatov? On a related note, I think that Adebayor is overhyped.

Plus I hear City is going to play a 2-3-5 to accommodate all their strikers.

Berbatov is not lethargic. Everyone gives him shit, but he was the second best player and probably most consistent on the team last year, and that's with being rotated.

I think Downing to Villa is to replace Young, who is most likely going to be sold.

Big hubbub about John Terry going to Man City because he hasn't signed for Chelski, he's been quiet about committing his future to the club, etc, and my guess is that he will go, mainly because he's a prat.

I feel like city is doing the same thing chelsea did a few years ago by just buying who ever. They may get back to back leagues and an FA but after three years big time players want to start leaving because of playing time.

big time players bump heads and egos start to get nuts...you cant keep a lot of stars on one team...real madrid tried once and it fell apart eventually. i mean it seems to buy success but it is a disgusting way of doing it and its only temporary

eh I have no problem with it

to be relevant in Manchester, they had to get great players immediately. For great players to go there, they have to overpay.

I just don't understand why they needed Tevez and why they're connected with Adebayor... the Barry signing, and Lescott interest, hell, even the Terry interest makes sense but all the forwards they're getting is just stupid

City has to break the top 4 this year, otherwise this whole thing will be for shit.

My guess is the highest they'll place is 6th.

They have the TEAM to pull some Chelsea-esque revolution and make it to the top 4, they just don't have the MANAGER and the TECHNICAL STAFF. If Shinatwatra hadn't shitcanned SGE, they'd be in prime position. Mark Hughes doesn't rate at all.

They need the UCL to make shit work. Otherwise, they're going to be stuck with mid-level players like Adebayor "sleeping on it" for their ridiculous wage offerings, and coming back the next day with an "ehhh, I'll pass" forever.

City doesn't have the pedigree, and right now they have to throw money at the problem to get to the UCL level so they can turn some big players' heads. Not being in Europe this year should help them, but this IS City we're talking about here.

And who knows what will happen when the Pompey sale finally goes through. It'll be another set of Arabs with stupid money trying to buy the world.

Yeah, I saw the news about the bomb blasts last night on twitter, but knew United were still in the air. I figured they'd cancel the whole tour.

and United just signed Mame Biram Diouf from FC Molde - where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got his start!

Inter is totally getting the better end of that deal, but Barcelona would have an insane attack with Ibra considering what he did with the midfield in Milan vs the midfield he would have in Barcelona.

hmmm

I think that Aquilani transfer is more likely

but it'd be bad business as italians rarely do well in England

Also I'm pretty sure that Valencia has basically priced themselves out of existence. They couldn't pay the players for most of last season, are encumbered with spiraling debt, and refused to sell Villa for 40 million euros not once but TWICE to the only two teams that he'd agree to go to.

What a bunch of fucking morons. Although, if they weren't morons, they wouldn't be in this position to begin with.

Sounders down 1-0 through 25

despite what the score says, the sounders have played excellent so far. the fans have really shown up and are making the US look very good on TV. the stadium is packed and very loud.

The game finished 2-0 Chelsea

This is such a great idea for the states. The fans showed up, stayed the whole time, and were loud as fuck from beginning to end. It's another small step towards the US becoming a place of legitimate soccer in the world. I would assume that the Chelsea players were impressed by the turnout on the field as well as the stands. We def looked good today on TV. The Sounders played well and gave the blues a good game.
