When and why in MLB history did the team with the best record in the entire Major Leagues not make the playoffs, 1994 nonwithstanding?

Reds in 81. The strike split the season in two, like low-A ball. Reds finished second in the West in both halves.

Well I know Christian Okoye is one of them. Is Dalton Hilliard the other?

Seriously, is it Faulk and LT? Just guessing.

this is a tough one, it would have to be a west coast offense though for the RB to get that many balls thrown his way...

Which active player has finished the past seven years in in the top 30 of the Majors in RBIs each year with his RBI total always ending up within a 7 RBI range?

ex his lowest total during that span was only seven RBI's less than his highest total, thus very consistent

I was thinking Abreu too because he was always in the Top 30 in everything it seems and always has similar year over year stats, but never leads in any category. Assuming he was clean, dude is probably the most underrated player of his generation.

I'd say Adam Dunn is.

He's made one all star team and Tony Gwynn is a first ballot Hall of Famer

Yet you'll never convince me that Dunn isn't a much more valuable player

^^ I disagree that Dunn is more underrated than Abreu. While Dunn is a great run producer and OBP guy, he has no speed and is a liability in the field. His arm is good, but in reality he would best fit as a DH. Hasn't Abreu only been to like 1 or 2 All Star games as well? The thing I like about Abreu is that he does everything well. A true five tool player that sustained his skills over the course of his career unlike some other five tool players who lost the speed and defense.

The argument of Dunn versus Gwynn is a worthy debate though. As for Ozzie Smith, there are dozens of guys that deserve the hall over him.
