Quote : "This has nothing to do with it. that is their job" yes it is their job. they only have to refill your drink once. that means they did there job. if you stay thirsty the rest of the time you are there you have no reason to compain. because well, they did their job.servers dont have to do shit as long as they take your order and bring what you ordered out. wwell see how well that works out for you the next time you go out to eat.

So you are saying good servers go out of their way to serve?
7/7/2009 3:31:01 PM
well, i try to go above and beyond. i anticipate the needs of my guests before they have to ask. any little extra step i can take to make their dinner better is worth it

My tip range is from 10-20%.I subtract out the sales tax before I figure my tip.I leave an exact tip on the CC receipt (no rounding). Also,

why am i dumb for saying that? i don't know how much tutoring pays or the other jobs that he mentioned, but when you can take home $200 for a 6-7 hour shift thats about $30 an hour. i'd say thats pretty good for a job that "the 16 year old down the road" can do. and no, your server at waffle house probably isn't taking home that kind of money, but your server at a nicer restaurant may well be. also, to explain why your tip amount should be more when you have a more expensive meal - where i work we have mandatory food and wine training classes. we come in 2 hours before the restaurant opens to polish every glass and every piece of silverware that goes on our tables and make sure the restaurant looks perfect. we stay after all our tables have left to set up everything for the next shift. all this time we are getting paid our hourly rate. we are constantly quizzed (written and verbal) to make sure that we know almost every ingredient in each dish, because you wouldn't believe the weird allergies people have (and at a nicer restaurant, it is expected that you know off the top of your head which dishes do not contain gluten, raw vegetables, parsley, cheese, whatever other random thing a person might be allergic to, etc). our menu is also constantly changing. most tables stay 2 hours or more, and we avg about 15-20 customers a night per server. the reason for this is so that the few tables we do have get the best service possible. it seems like the people who eat there understand and appreciate this, because i rarely hear the people i work with complain about bad tips. now don't get me wrong, i love my job, for now. it is a great way to meet people (a server last year got hired by sas after waiting on a guy that worked there). i definitely can't complain about the work i do compared to the money i make. but it is just temporary until i get my career started.[Edited on July 7, 2009 at 9:35 PM. lolpeople wont hesitate to pull out sketchy moves like that at restaurantsi had a couple once who brought in a mason jar of what they said was WATER. i asked my manager to go check it out because they were acting strange from the start and they told the manager refused to drink water from other places. they seemed to get more and more strange as the night progressed and by the end of the meal they were slurring words and blinking one eye at a time. i had to read the check to the guy cause he couldnt i guess. blah blah blah they left, and i smelled the jar....VODKAthey drank a large mason jar FULL of vodka straight...and ordered drinks from our barand then drove homesketchy sketchy sketchy
