well, in my opinion, as far as CB goes....

that whole individual site thing died out. Sure, there are still a few people that linger around their local sites, but the bulk of the posters are in the national board...
additionally, the majority of the posters are still living in NC, with only a few subsets of outliers

Yes, I think we would be losing some of the NCSU heritage by combining the sites, but I also think a lot of people also come to TWW because it's a cool place to hang out...not because it's affiliated with NCSU

i would hate to dilute the userbase. The one thing that keeps me coming back here over any other social message board is the ties to NC State and NC. It would be hard to keep TWW action news fresh, and to stay up on the local goings on in Raleigh with a more diverse base. Yes I am biased. I love my wolfwebs the way it is

Part of the appeal for TWW is the Raleigh/NCSU community and seeing how it diversifies. I was on CB but never really got active, it wasn't as interesting. Making TWW more open to other schools I think would be cool, but going the other way I think would send TWW down the CB hill.

so i just got off the phone with these 2 guys who handle the site now. had a really good conversation and i think they are genuinely interested in being proactive about tdub. understandably, they have limited resources so the pace of change will be probably be a little slower than we might hope, but i'm encouraged that they are at least going to be moving in the right direction -shrug-

to be honest, it didn't come up. if they had had a crappy attitude and didn't care but to let it fade into oblivion while collecting any revenue that was left, i would have suggested it. but i was pretty happy with the conversation and i think it's worth giving a chance.

^ i dunno how old they are but they aren't college kids. they have a fairly hands-off approach, which i prefer actually. and seem to be pretty smart and familiar with online communities and all that stuff. i doubt they will ever be part of the community like most regulars are, or even as much as nael was (which obviously wasn't much), but that might be ok. they realize that the community is self-regulating and that the mods here have already been handling things for the most part for so long that they don't want to come in here and change a bunch of stuff. which i appreciate.

i dunno. it was mostly a conversation so that we could each understand the others perspective. i told them a little about tdub's history and the things that need to be fixed. if i had to guess, i'd say school tool would be one of the first things. but like i said, i don't know what their capacity for active development is so it's hard to gauge how quickly things might change. they definitely seemed eager to stay in touch (part of the problem they said was they didn't know quite how to get involved here or what the issues are. they asked nael but he never gave them any guidance) so as things develop, i'll be sure to post stuff

i've had admin rights for some time now. i've put out fires as necessary, but i've been reluctant to make any major changes or new development since i'm a busy man and generally get paid for those types of services

TWW started because of its affiliation to NCSU, and those ties dropped as its userbase graduated and moved on. Sure, a lot of the power users on here have ties to their IRL friends that's making them come back, but what started TWW was the NCSU connection. Combining the CB userbase would be a temporary fix (who is to say they want to come over here anyway? All I would see them getting is the 'hey a new board with people on it', ala Jennabelle) but not a permanent one. Activity would still decline overall.

The main thing is advertising, and that's the number one issue for all organizations that I've seen and been involved with in my day. Get advertising out, and you have a site (provided its a quality product). Don't, and it will fade into oblivion.
