Yeah I got sprint2home added and FF1250 converted back to FF500 in one fell swoop, but I was still having to watch my minutes far too much. Even using MagiCall to automate the whole process it was still a pain. Plus long distance roaming is > *

Is anyone using GV Mobile on their iPhones?

Just curious about something, if I use GV Mobile to dial a number, the phone will show an incoming call from my google voice phone number, when I answer, I am connected to my dialed call.

The question is: if I add my google voice number to my AT&T a-list, will AT&T not charge against my anytime minutes?

Before the A-list got on Att I believe the folks with My Circle wondered the same thing. I think the carriers sniffed it out and blocked all the google voice numbers from the free anytime minute list. How I have no idea, but it sounds too good to be true, so most likely it is.

I'm not sure if the google voice program actually dials your GV number or at least it doesn't on my Droid. It shows up as another number on my bill but I was able to add that to my Friends and Family list and it seems to be working that way. Incoming calls pass through the caller id so I'm not sure if you can get free incoming or not.

I did some pretty crazy testing on this theory back when GV was first transitioning from grand central. I think I came to the conclusion that I had to lose my CID features and have it only show my GV number, BUT if I was roaming outside of the Sprint network for whatever reason, the call would not be considered Mobile2Home.

FYI google voice is on the iphone, kinda. If you have the mobile page bookmarked on your home screen it turns into an app. Pretty useful and it finally stops doing the call back to make outgoing calls. All you need to do is click the + on the safari screen from google voice and click add to homepage.

^LOL Definitely not. My mom called one day and said something like "just wondering what're you doing" and GV somehow translated it as "what the hell are you doing"

^^Only if you have a VOIP client such as skype installed and running on your phone and have your GV number set up to ring that number.

If i reply to a text email on my CELLULAR and hit enter it terminates the rest of the message. also <3 generates some random garbage to the receiver. anyone else run into this?

Example :

Yeah that was fun. <3

Would you like to go for a walk?

Reciever gets :

Yeah that was fun. ntld% ; nbtl& (i dont know if the ntld% is exact but its similar )

Its a good way to think youre being ignored hahahaha

there are a ton of bugs in the systems that translate characters from one carrier's SMS system to another (in that case < to whatever the http lessthan code is). SMS is pretty terrible.

You can now use Google Voice to make and receive calls directly in Gmail:

What I'm wondering is if you travel abroad and find a wifi hotspot, if you call the US, is it still free? I would assume so since the call is still going through Google's servers and terminating in the US.

I tried this, voice quality is superb. Would a bluetooth work well with this? I've never used skype but I assume this will work in a similar way and I see there are bluetooths that can answer/hang up skype calls directly from the headset.

My cell service blows at my home and I've been thinking about what service to get for awhile now and this gift just dropped in my lap.

I have a few questions for you guys. I haven't found straight answers via google.

I have an iphone and use google voice. When I have my GV texts sent to my phone the number that's associated with that person is like random, but consistant with that number. So how is google handling this? Like if I text someone using my GV number, then they text me back, it's not my friends number but some random weird number but always the same for that person. So I just added that number as a second number for that friend. Does anyone know how google uses these numbers?

I just hope Apple allows google to come out with a better GV app. The web app is alright but not good enough for every day use.

oh and:

http://gizmodo.com/5622675/gmail-voice-is-about-future-search-not-free-calls

that's smart.

What do you mean how does Google use those numbers? From what I understand, it's kinda like a unique identifier assigned to that person. If you text it, it gets relayed to that user and appears to be from your GV#.

That link is pretty interesting. Doesn't bother me that they are using that data but I guess some people might freak out.

i was under the impression apple didnt allow a GV application because they were in bed with AT&T who thinks they can charge an arm and a leg for SMS messages. Same reason why the messaging system on the iphone is crippled.

Yeah that's what i was thinking. So google has a set identifier (a phone number) set for every person that gets texted via a GV number (assuming they don't have a GV number already)? So i'm alright assigning that number to that particular friend so when i receive texts from them sent with my GV it shows up as them.

Friends with GV numbers shows up with their GV number obviously.

No i read somewhere it wasn't AT&T that wasn't allowing the GV app it was Apple. Apple said they'd review it. It had to do with it dupplicating features of the iPhone. There's already plenty of free SMS apps out there that apple DID approve that use data so I don't know why this one wasn't approved. It's not like it was VOIP.

Um i understand what this is but how is it different then what gvoice already does? I use Beejive for chats but why would i want to use it for texts? Google voice already sends my texts to my phone as texts. Why would i change that? In fact i turned off email text notifications and only have the Gvoice texts go to my phone so i don't get two notifications at once.
