I feel really bad for fair skinned people. I'm in the sun for 5-6 hours a day and haven't been burned once this summer. I can't imagine having to worry about sunscreen and shade and avoiding sunlight. I guess I'm just lucky.

what? a tan is skin damage too.

skin cancer can take a while to develop. don't worry, there's still time for you.

i have absolutely no respect for anyone who uses tanning beds or purposefully lays in the sun all day.

yea, super lucky

i had a severe sunburn on my face at a very young age and ive been sun burnt several several times while figuring out that, oh maybe i should just stop going out into the sun so much

being tan definitely looks good, but i just cant afford the risk. i try to get some sun in the summer between the beach, pool and lake but otherwise i use tanning lotion on my legs so i can at least wear skirts and dresses without blinding people

hell, it's probably more dangerous to drive your car every day than it is to tan. +1 for being naturally tan though.

i'd be more concerned about cancer than leather...but people who tan layout/go to tanning beds are, by nature, more concerned with looks/aesthetics anyway i guess.

by nature, what do you mean? i NEVER use sunblock when i go outside...by the end of the summer, i'm tan, but not really dark...i don't lay out, either...but i would say that, by nature, i tan quickly and rarely burn

False.

I think your posts in this thread might be the most revealing ones you have ever made.

Quote :

+0.50
You can still be an otherwise great person, but purposefully tanning detracts from that.

She's already clarified, but hell yes, there is a world of difference between actively seeking to permanently damage one's skin, and the color that comes from not living in a cave.

yeah, being oily has nothing to do with how much damage is happening to your skin.

both of my parents and my brother have extremely oily skin and life time exposure to too much sunlight....

none are wrinkled or have leathery skin

my dad had malignant melanoma on his back and basal cell carcinoma on his forehead that was like |-| that far from moving into his skull. he has nasty scars in both places. the fact that he's bald doesn't help his forehead. my mom has had tons of basal cell carcinomas removed. i've had a spot that was suspicious that was underneath my hair, where you don't typically put sunscreen obviously.

i'm careful and passionate about it because i have good reason.

Sound, sound logic.
Which still shows you don't give a damn about the health of your skin - only the appearance.

* Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer; about one million of the cases diagnosed annually are basal cell carcinomas.29 Basal cell carcinomas are rarely fatal, but can be highly disfiguring.

I don't know what beaches you go to, but most of them have a breeze, especially if you're down near the water. Being by a pool I could understand feeling hot, there usually isn't a breeze and here in NC with the humidity it often feels hot as balls.

And I don't know what's so boring about chillin' in a beach chair, soaking up some rays, and reading a good book down by the water's edge as the waves lap against your feet.

maybe I just enjoy being lazy? either way I think its great to build up a good tan early in the summer. that way when you take trips to the beach or lake or just do a lot of stuff outside you don't have to worry about getting scorched.

i'm all about some yard work. or kayaking or fishing.

i need an activity. sitting still and reading is for rainy days at the beach or something.

oh and i go to emerald isle, which is a south facing beach as you probably know, and if there's wind on one side, there's none on the other. from my experience with our house on the sound side over the last 10 years (different places before then, always on the sound), the wind is typically there and not at the ocean during the summer.

^sorry to hear that

I enjoy relaxing at the beach. reading a book by the water and drifting in and out of sleep is pretty relaxing IMO.

Not that I don't enjoy throwing a football around in the water, or playing paddle ball, or surfing (body or board). Or playing golf or tennis or washing my car or (insert other outdoor activities with sun exposure here).
