Are you a current USMC poolee? If so, I am OCS complete and can PT with you if you are still here.

I used to be on protein drinks/shakes and creatine back when i played football in high school, but it didn't really do anything special for me. I think I was lifting on average 4 days a week 6 times total in addition to conditioning/practice?

Yep, that's how you become a pull-up stud. There's the Armstrong plan, too, but I never tried that personally (though I have no doubt that I would work well). I can tell you that weighted pull ups will turn you into a man.

Oh yeah, you're giving up a shit ton of points on the pull-ups. See my above Rx. The crunches...if you don't get 100 of them, you probably just aren't doing them right. The object (when doing if for score) isn't to get a workout--it's to do the bare minimum allowed within the letter of the law. The run, well, it's a tough place to make points...I mean, you have to increase your pace by what, 17 seconds per mile (i.e., 50 seconds faster on the run time) to equal just ONE pull up.

If you max the pull ups and crunches, you will get at least a decent score if you just PASS the run.

True, but I'm not looking to qualify for anything since I'm not in the Marines. My eventual goal is to get a 300.

I figured it's a good assessment of male physical fitness.

Yeah, I wish I could, but I don't think I can do that with the equipment at my disposal.

I think I'd be more worried about working out if I couldn't see my penis anymore... either that or I'd be looking into a penis pump...

Yeah, gaining weight really depends on your workout plan, your diet, and how much conditioning you do. Working out a lot plus doing a lot of stamina conditioning isn't going to let you gain weight fast at all...but this probably shouldn't start to derail the thread more than it has already

I remember weighing 146 my freshman year of highschool when we all got weighed for our PE class. Back then I never weighed myself but I think that was probably my highest. Freshman year of college I got down to 113 which is the lowest I can remember. This morning I was at 118. I am fine with that weight, but I would like to tone up some.

most: 285
least: 185ish

current: 220

even though my weight doesn't represent it, I'm finally approaching respectable strength again. It's been like 3 years since I could do unassisted pull-ups. I know I'm still horribly out of tri shape though.

337.

Now at around 270.

Should be 220 sometime in the spring, which, at 6'6", is about where I need to be.

165. Junior year of college. Got a little too into weight lifting. Was never close to being overweight...just wasn't "lean." Was down to the low 140s by the end of senior year...best shape of my life. Fluctuate between 145 and low 150s now.

This is something that can never happen for 99% of people. And, at 165, unless you're about 5'4", I don't think you were as "into weight lifting" as you thought you were. Unless you were just eating the weight gain 5000 and not lifting any weights.

247 at the moment.
I am desperately in need of time out from my kid, his problems, my house, and the pantry.

My lightest was 117 in HS. I am my happiest at 170ish like I was in Jan of 08. I'm a chick who actually likes being a bit soft and round. But now I am extra super squishy fat.

I really couldn't care less about how much I weigh.

I care more about what I look like in the mirror. If I've got some hefty beer baggage hanging off my stomach and sides, and my belly button is further away from the core of my body than my nipples, then its time to get running around the lake and eating lettuce

220+ i think...

~180 something now probably high 180's i still need to drop some fat though... need to add running and start actually cooking more....

i really don't care what i actually weigh, more that my body fat % drops (a lot more)

getting back into weights and pullups and such (i used to do pullups every night while in MS and HS) got to be able to do 30-40 easy or 20+ full extension (arm lock) now i'm lucky if i can pull off 15... (the extra weight is killing me here as i was 160's in HS) never tried to max on crunches... usually my lower back will start to kill me before i feel anything else giving out... as for running... hell when i was in good shape i was a 6:30/mile pacer with a 5km limit (not going any faster than that) this was in college (second year and HS)

I disagree. Some people have thyroid problems. And some antidepressants can cause weight gain because they block histamine H1 receptors and boost appetite. http://www.healthcentral.com/heart-disease/news-31506-29.html

Well, yes. But you're talking about (with thyroid disorders) something that affects an incredibly small percentage of people.

Anti-depressants? No excuse. Exercise more and control your diet.

Of everyone I run into that is fat, 99% of them are just lazy. There's that one percent I can allow because they have a specific medical condition, but let me tell you:

Asthma is not a medical condition that let's you get fat. Neither is pregnancy. Neither is diabetes. Neither is depression. Neither is any other of the reasons people complain about while they're stuffing a Big Mac down their throats.

Insurance doesn't always cover surgeries.

And not everyone is a candidate for lap band or gastric bypass surgeries.

thyroid problems checking in!!

i'm a bad example though cause i'm relatively thin for a hypothyroid problem...but it's crazy hard to drop the pounds. i think the only way i really think i could get back to my happy weight/size is if i was dancing 12+ hours a week again

i know it makes me a horrible person but i always chortle when a gi-normous fatty prepping for surgery get's rejected b/c they can't control themselves (what they stuff themselves with) before hand and were counting on the surgery to fix everything for them. (tv shows)

I am absolutely the laziest person you'll ever meet. I can totally agree that my weight problem is because I'm lazy.

I was (and still kinda am) a fatty, but I still wasn't a candidate for lap band. You have to be 100lbs overweight in order for insurance to cover you. While reading up on the surgery (and reading the forums about insurance coverage) I encountered lots of people that actually gained weight in order to become "eligible" for the surgery, so that their insurance would cover it.

Hey! Let's argue why fat people get fat!

"All fat people are lazy!"
"Some fat people can't help it!"

while we are at it why don't we argue which area has the worst drivers.

nah, I'm not bitter, it's just the same old argument all the time! haha

like the bbq debate
and people calling Christians dumb
and why is Christmas celebrated by athiests
and how much Hanson sucks

But I will contribute....being a fat person and all. The reason I am fat is mostly because I don't eat well and I don't work out like I should. However, it's hard for me to lose weight as easily as most people. BUT I've got a new work out buddy and we are going to start today after class, so maybe one day I will tell y'all how much I used to weigh.

I also generally always take the stairs instead of the elevator too.

I'm 6'4'' and have been very skinny for the majority of my life. The most I have ever weighed was 233lbs back in 2004, and the least I've weighed was 200 in 2006. According to my doctor, I should be around 205-210, but that's assuming that my body fat percentage is under 20%. I felt fat when I was 233lbs, but in reality, it wasn't a noticeable fatness. Right now, I'm fluctuating between 212-218, which is decent for my height, but I won't feel satisfied until I'm down to 205-210 and under 16% BFP.

Distance swimmers and long distance runners can consume a ridiculous amount of calories before/after a big workout. I've seen Arab13 down a HUGE amount of food before/after a big swim meet, and he never seemed to put on any weight, except muscle. Mainly because they tend to burn a shit-ton of calories during those meets. Now if he sat on his ass instead of swimming, he'd be one fat dude, but alas, that was not the case.

Way to contradict yourself immediately after you say something.

"I don't eat well and don't work out. But it's harrrderrr for me than most people!"

Unless you have a medically diagnosed condition that prevents you from lifting a weight and not eating a cheeseburger, no, it's not harder for your than most people. You're just lazy.
