I'll be the first to admit that I got really lucky in my company. I was placed under a fuckup of a manager that always felt underappreciated. When he finally left, it was easy to outperform him and get noticed for it. I also managed to get in with a couple of clients and do well with them at a time when they had a lot of other work coming down the pipeline.

I had to bust my ass to keep those clients happy and get to where I am today, but there was an element of luck to ending up in that situation in the first place. I could have just as easily been placed under an overachieving manager with a bag of lemons for a client list, but that wasn't the case.

That also doesn't include some consulting work I do on the side that varies considerably based on several factors....severe weather....winter weather...number of hurricanes...etc.

why are people full of shit, not many people even listed anything that seems out of the ordinary.

my stats: my actual net pay was higher at the last job

but i have much better reason to invest now so net pay is lower. base salary is highest ever. plus i just got a raise nothing huge, a few percent, but considering how many people are getting laid off and taking paycuts and getting fridays off unpaid, im happy with it
