Had a bad misfire on the Yota. Sounded like tapping valve or something.
Grabbed plugs and Seafoam with plans to start with a compression check and replace plugs after testing each cylinder.
First plug I checked the boot had popped off. Plug itself was loose and compression was blowing by it. I think the sound I was hearing was actually the air puffing by the rubber boot with each stroke.
Went ahead and replaced all the plugs since I had the parts and tools out. They were decent Bosch's, but they looked pretty old.
Checked compression...All cylinders in 155-165 range. Put her back together and she's purring like a kitten again.
Not sure if I'm going to use this seafoam or return it. Trying to figure out which vac line would be the best to use and I found stories on the internet of folks hydrolocking their engines with it. I might just dump it in the tank and forget about it.

Spent a good 9 hours making this box for a buddy's Subaru. 3/4" MDF 2.2 cu ft enclose with bandpass (I did about 3 hours of reading prior to designing the box). Going to fit 2 10". Just sprayed with polyurethane and once that dries, I'll have it lined in gray felt. I don't think I did too bad considering it's my 2nd box. Watch out MaximaDrvr!











I really did my best to make sure all the edges were flush. I think the extra time I spent to achieve "perfection" was well worth it, especially for someone else.

This just in... MX-3 RS Front Wheel Bearings...

pretty heavy lil suckers! I know these aren't that big compared to trucks, but I guess you need some pretty HD bearings on an axle that is used for both propelling and steering the vehicle.

New rotors and pads on the accord and then all new shocks on the ZJ. I had to drill out everyone one of those damn bolts that hold on the rotors! Broke 3 bits in the process.

I need to replace the rear passenger side bearing on the Jeep and have been doing some reading and it looks like this is a bit involved. Do any of you have experience doing this on a Jeep or recommend a shop?

^^^^ LOL, yeah, i could only wish Got the mx3 up in the air and the steering knuckles removed. Wasn't too bad imo. Took them to Mazda service to get them to press in the new bearings, as well as replace a stripped stud. Should have the car on the road by Tuesday. Then we'll see if the popping sound and vibrations are coming from those bearings. I'm going to be pissed if it ain't.

Toyota:

Installed spool in rear third.

Went to install lockrite in front third, only to split the halfs and find a lockright already in there. It wasnt functioning(broken pins), but my buddy happened to have a rebuild kit on hand so we just fixed the old one.

Removed rear spool, and put the other lockrite in the rear.

So far i have the rear axle put back together, just needs gear oil. Not looking forward to putting the front back together today in this cold.

me and jeepman and a couple of non-tww friends got some good work done on Jolene a

1990 XJ, 4.0 auto with 261k... Swapped in an 8.25 thats already welded up, lifted the front with some ZJ V8 coils and 2" spacers and a small block with shackle on the rear. 3.55 gears front and rear and cut fenders. Then got some 33x13.50 TSL with some random chrome 15x10s... She's almost done couple small things left and she'll be wheelin!

She's wide and low...

Tried to get a bumper built for teh 4runner today. Work was slow since i was alone, but I at least got the winch mount done. I will try to finish the tube work on friday, but may not have time to before my trip on saturday morning.

MX-3
Had new wheel bearings pressed into the hubs. A wheel stud was stripped in the process, so that was replaced with a new lug nut. This leads me into my top tip of the month, below. I also rotated the tires and added washers to part of the shift linkage to tighten it up. It helped a little, but the shifter could probably use a new pin. I may do the same thing I did with the Porsche shifter to get it feeling crisp again.

TOP TIP
If you need just one or two lug nuts because you lost them or they are ruined, go to your local dealership. They often have a lot of spare ones laying around and, if you ask nicely, may give a couple to you for free. Beats going to Advanced and paying $5-$10 for a set.

One of two alternator bolts broke. By broke, I mean it was a clean/flush break with part of the threading still in the engine block. Mayhem is replacing this under warranty since they were the one who put grade 5 bolts on there So I'll have grade 8 bolts by tomorrow, hopefully, holding my alternator in place. yay.

I put some tires on my $350 95 F-150 4wd and have done some general maintenance stuff on the other vehicles I have. Fuel filter on the 68 F-100, etc... All of our tractors need engine and hydraulic oil changes and greasing so I guess they are good winter projects.

To the Marauder, jack shit other than an oil change, but to the gf's Olds Alero, had to chase down a rough running problem that turned into a misfire that turned into a hesitation back in November. Replaced plugs, plug boots, coil spark distribution module, seafoamed it, replaced fuel filter, and corrected vacuum leak. Got some help from zxappeal, did some of the work myself, and ended up taking it to a shop to chase down the vacuum leak because I was tired of dealing with it.

Then last week her passenger side window fell down into the door and wouldn't come back up, which is a great thing to have happen in 30 degree weather. The clips that connect the window to the regulator track had both shattered, had to pull the window and regulator out and replace both of those clips. Which were $45 each for a plastic doodad about two inches square and an inch wide, and which I had to get from the dealership because no one else makes them and I couldn't wait a week plus to order online. Fuck you, GM.
