why couldn't smith or davis hauled in one of those huge catches they bobbled in the USC game.
wilson would actually be a selection on the list and we wouldn't be going through this BS. 9/30/2009 10:26:10 AM |

We all know that the Heisman winner will be from a major conference team with 11 wins. Wilson has no shot, unless by some miracle we win out.

Can we stop executing this play on offense every 1.7384 plays?

^^^ For that matter can we suggest that Archer not load one side of the field when defending the run and then forgetting that the running back HAS EYES and will usually just run the other way.
I saw it happen too many times in the first half against Pitt. He'd load the left side, and they'd just change and run to the right.
EDIT: But, at least he has the ability to learn midway through the game and alter the defense, which is a lot better than we've had in the past here at NC State.

the strongside run up the middle is the one that worked. it was that weakside sweep that we kept running on first down for a loss of 3. 9/30/2009 11:00:39 AM |

^^so true.
when i saw that play i started screaming: "SOMEBODY MOVE TO THE RIGHT SIDE!!!"
and everybody in my section thought i was nuts. then after the play... every body in the section yelling "why didn't we have somebody onthe right side" 9/30/2009 11:05:55 AM |

grobe over davis seriously??? What has grobe done in all his years at wake? win 1 acc in a battle of who was the least bad team that year? 15 years of coaching and 1 orange bowl blowout loss is all he has to show for it.
Davis has 3 conference titles and produced a national championship team. The talent these coaches bring in is not even on the same two planets. Just because you hate unc doesn't mean you have to do this. Not only do you lose credibility, it cheapens credibility of the entire fanbase. 9/30/2009 4:49:11 PM |

^5 wow. Just wow.
I'll bite, cuz i'm feeling punchy today.
Grobe won an ACC title AT WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY. Think about that for a second, let it swirl around in your head. They're either the smallest or the second smallest university in Div-1a, they have NO solid football history and had NO name credibility on recruits. He did it through coaching, finding diamond recruits in barren grounds, and generally working harder than any other coach out there.
When offered the opportunity to play at a more high-profile school for more money he said declined because he felt WF paid him a sufficient amount and he felt a good degree of loyalty to the university.
Butch Davis had a somewhat better position when he started at Miami. Granted it wasn't great, he lost a LOT of scholarships because of Erickson's issues and basically paid the price for Erickson's shady dealings. The difference is that by the time Davis got there Miami had a name recognition that couldn't be ignored. They'd been winning national titles regularly and it seemed like they would again after the post-season ban. Of course, they wouldn't do it under Davis. His teams couldn't break through and get that big National Title win that they wanted.
And Davis jumped ship after 5 years to the NFL, where he floundered and eventually meandered his way back to the highest bidder in Chapel Hill.
If he'd stuck around at Miami and coached that 2001 team, I wonder if they would have won a National Championship with him at the helm. It's true that he managed to put the pieces in the right place but I would question if he could have guided them they way they would have needed to be guided
So, a coach with loyalty who made something formidable out of nothing, or a coach who jumps ship when he can and couldn't win the big on at Miami in the 90's.
Take your pick.
