your list is still debatable...i said this year, which means if somebody on your list is better but injured, then they're not as good this year

but i agree with most of your list

That list was 66 deep, and I neglected to mention David Lee, Michael Redd, Richard Jefferson, Pau Gasol (healthy), Jason Kidd, Jose Calderon, Brook Lopez, Rashard Lewis or Eric Gordon

There's no way Jackson is better than 25 of those guys

Probably a good trade for both teams. I like it for the cats as long as Jackson keeps his cool. Hopefully Brown can control him. Acie Law was one of my favorite players in college, but I guess he is too small for the NBA game?

"The Kings and Hornets are discussing a deal that would send Emeka Okafor to Sacramento.

Sources told Sam Amick of the Sacramento Bee of the trade discussions.

The proposed swap would send forward Kenny Thomas to New Orleans. The Hornets would be inclined to agree to the deal because Thomas has an expiring contract worth $8.7 million.

However, the Kings have to be willing to take the five years and $62.5 million remaining on Okafor's deal."

Quote :
"Stephen Jackson's contract is so long and expensive that one thing was certain: Whoever got him away from the Warriors was going to be somebody in search of wins -- not some cheap, bottom-feeding team.

And then the Bobcats got him.

The thing is, though, that it's not hard to imagine he will make the Bobcats -- currently 3-6 -- a much better team. Here's how it could happen:

Volatility
Stephen Jackson and Larry Brown is one potent combination. Whether it's potent on-court play that results, or potent arguments, we'll see. But Jackson is a difference-making player, and now he'll be paired with a difference-maker of a coach. Neither one backs down from much of anything. Let me be one of a zillion sportswriters to say: This could end ugly!

But I'm thinking that when they get to the final table of this poker tournament, Brown will have some extra poker chips.

The first is that Jackson has to be a little humbled by the fact that better teams didn't want to give up much for him. Maybe it's time for him to dig a little deeper into the idea of being a coachable player. A second point is one that people used to write about Eddy Curry and Allen Iverson: Brown is close to NBA insider William Wesley. As the season unfolds, should bridges need to be built between Jackson and Brown, there will be someone credbile to both parties who could play bridge-builder.

Spreading out the offense
In addition to Gerald Wallace, Tyson Chander and the surprisingly effective Nazr Mohammed, the Bobcats roster boasts a collection of players who can both create off the dribble and shoot. Raymond Felton, D.J. Augustin, Stephen Jackson, Boris Diaw ... Assuming Augustin emerges from his Larry Brown-induced shell, these are players who make opponents pay with shooting should they clog the lane. Perhaps they'll hit enough shots to convince defenders to chase shooters all over the floor, instead of sagging into the lane.

The Bobcats could start to look a bit like those various Ben Gordon teams -- the Bulls who almost knocked off the Celtics in last year's playoffs, or this year's Pistons, who have shown signs of proving doubters wrong this year.

If you can get defenders spread all over, leaving tons of room in the middle of the floor, the list of players who can put the ball on the floor to beat one man, and then get to the rim and score is long. That's what got a lot of these players to the NBA.

Stephen Jackson can be part of a team like that.

Juicing up the defense
Two years ago, Stephen Jackson had a long run of games where he was guarding people like Tracy McGrady, Ron Artest, Steve Nash, Shawn Marion, Caron Butler, Paul Pierce, Andre Iguodala and making them all have miserable shooting nights.

Larry Brown, meanwhile, has coached a long string of players -- Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace, Eric Snow, Aaron Mckie, Derrick Coleman, Theo Ratliff, Tayshaun Prince -- as they have played arguably the best defense of their careers.

There is a certain brand of Larry Brown perimeter defense, by the way. I'm not exactly sure how this happens, but watch and tell me I'm wrong: His teams use more hands on the perimeter. Hand-checking is illegal on the perimeter these days, but Brown's teams do it anyway, but with a certain you-wouldn't-really-call-that-would-you? style. A nudge here, a scrape there ... just enough to take the offense out of rhythm and force the occasional turnover. For instance, Brown's players tend to slap opponents on the wrists, making catches, dribbling, and shots tough but the referees seldom seem to slap his teams on the wrists.

It's a reach, but if some combination of Brown's coaching and Jackson's urge to prove that he still matters can get Jackson back into the defensive mindset, the Bobcats could suddenly become relevant in the Eastern playoff picture. When he played that kind of defense two years ago, the Warriors went from winning one of seven games while he was out, and then won nine out ten upon his return, on their way to a 48-win season.

That kind of season in the modern East would be more than enough to make the playoffs, and could come close to justifying Jackson's considerable contract."

Quote :
"What a humiliating about-face. Less than a year after the Warriors' dysfunctional management proudly signed team captain Stephen Jackson to a cap-crippling three-year, $28 million extension negotiated behind then-general manager Chris Mullin's back, they gave away the disgruntled veteran for cap relief on Monday by dealing him and Acie Law to Charlotte for Raja Bell and Vladimir Radmanovic. Radmanovic's own contract is bad enough that the Lakers gave him away at the trade deadline a year earlier, speaking volumes about the Warriors' gaffe with Jackson.

Bell is a productive player -- but at a much lower level than Jackson -- and is on the final year of his contract, making the primary benefit of the deal for Golden State the fact it clears $9.2 million in cap space in 2011. The Warriors are now a potential player in that year's free-agent market, depending on future moves."

it's not a long contract... we got rid of Radmanovic so it's really not a big committment salarywise. We are put together to try to make a playoff run the next two seasons and then we come out of all our sketchy deals and we can rebuild. I think it's a great move we have way too much talent this season to suck it up and win 35 games because we need 6 more ppg to get over the hump.

It is a long contract, and he will be 35 at the end of it, but Charlotte is not an ideal free agent desitination

We're going to have to acquire most of our key players by draft or trade

and Jackson is better than what we had

We're at the bottom of the league in terms of 5 year outlook

a 5th or 6th seed is our ceiling until 2014

ah, i just realized it has another three after this one... i thought this was the first of the three year deal.

Whatever, it's not a particularly bad deal. We'll use him the next three seasons then probably dump him the last year as an expiring contract.

We don't have cap space the next few years anyway and we'll never land a premeire free agent anyway, we'll have to overpay for a guy who really doesn't deserve huge money.

This makes us playoff contenders instead of the most frustrating team in the league to watch.

Jackson can't handle the ball. He is a spot up shooter. He is a decent shooter and much like the Chandler trade we finally get some athleticism. Somebody that can finish at the rim, unlike Bell, Diaw,Felton,Vlad, Caroll etc...

I hate his contract.

He is a good defender and obviously makes this team slightly better. We need Iverson

Jackson played 45 minutes last night if the box score is correct, wow

and I'm sure its just because its new to the team, but how he played last night was NOT what we need from him

He stood around on the wing and played off the ball the whole game; he needs the ball in his hands to creat

But I'm sure thats do to lack of familiarity with the team, coupled with the fact that Flip was on fire

In a week or so, we should be running 80 percent of the offense thru him and Boris

Fairly cheaply, the Warriors were able to make their Stephen Jackson problems disappear by dealing him to the Charlotte Bobcats for Raja Bell's expiring contract and Vladimir Radmanovic. Golden State possibly could have received more usable assets had they waited into December, January or even February when a true contender became unbearably desperate to add Jackson, but the risk wasn't worth the reward; particularly because their current season was in dangers of becoming unsalvageable while the disconnect lingered.

For Jackson, he goes from one 3-6 non-contender with an aging, legendary, sometimes cantankerous coach to another 3-6 non-contender with an aging, legendary, sometimes cantankerous coach.

The Bobcats will absorb Jackson's $7.65M contract for this season, along with $8.45M in 10-11, $9.26M in 11-12 and $10.06M in 12-13, while Golden State will merely owe Radmanovic $6.88M next season.

For a fairly average starter who is firmly 31-years-old with a history of being unpredictably volatile, I don't see the reasoning from the Bobcats' perspective unless they believe he can legitimately take them to the playoffs this season. Charlotte must leapfrog over three of the six teams ahead of them (Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Toronto, Indiana, Philadelphia) while remaining ahead of the other playoff contender (Washington) behind them. Even with Jackson, I think they are only marginally better than two or three of those teams.

Jackson has always been a high volume scorer, with a career True Shooting Percentage of .523 and career field goal percentage of .418. At any given time, he is capable of being an excellent scorer, imaginative passer, solid rebounder and disruptive defender, but he rarely pieces all of those components together at once.

His skill-set on the wing complements Gerald Wallace very well and with their size, they will become a nightmare on both ends of the floor for opposing wings. With Jackson as your B wing defender, scoring against the Bobcats has gone from very difficult (currently ranked 6th in defensive efficiency) to slap a chair during timeout frustrating.

Even though Bell was currently leading the team in True Shooting Percentage, Jackson will be a decided upgrade for an offense that is currently last in offensive efficiency. Their depth is dismal, but a starting five of Raymond Felton, Jackson, Wallace, Boris Diaw and Tyson Chandler could actually become interesting and will certainly grind out it's fair share of close games, at least in part to that excruciatingly slow pace Larry Brown has been using.

Wisely and unsurprisingly, the Bobcats stood firm on refusing to trade Diaw for Jackson so they deserve a notch up there. Another potential windfall for Charlotte is that Jackson can potentially take Gerald Henderson under his wing, who may compare more closely to the veteran (strictly in terms of athletic standing and ability) than any other young player in the league.

Acie Law was the throw-in to complete this trade and he has actually given the Warriors some decent minutes over the past week. His sample size is just 66 minutes, but has a True Shooting Percentage of .752. Even though it feels like he was just a lottery pick, he is already 25 since he came out of Texas A&M as a senior and doesn't have room to develop into a starter, but could sneak into a backup point guard role after Felton assumedly leaves this season.

The Bobcats have clearly improved in the short term, but I see no possible scenario in which Stephen Jackson retires with this team and put the odds of him going to the playoffs with Charlotte at 40%. Alternatively, I wouldn't be shocked if the Bobcats trade him before the deadline, possibly for more in return than they gave to Golden State.

Grade for Charlotte: C+

It was only a matter of time before Radmanovic played under Don Nelson. Nelson has always liked players like Radmanovic, but also has a way of hating them when they underperform (Al Harrington comes immediately to mind). Radmanovic has struggled horribly with his shot this season, with a career low True Shooting Percentage of .437. He is much better suited for a free flowing, fast paced offense, but he is a 20 minute per night player maximum at this point in his career.

I'm not completely sure how Nelson will use Bell, whom he coached one season in Dallas back in 02-03. He has slowed down defensively, but is still effective and an upgrade over Golden State's incumbents. He also will be the antithesis of Jackson in the locker room as a safe and sane veteran.

The Warriors were approaching a scenario where they almost had to send Jackson away from the team not unlike what the Knicks did last year with Stephon Marbury, but the inherent risk there is the plummeting of his trade value. Regardless of what happens with Bell and Radmanovic, this is an addition by subtraction and the needless extension they signed Jackson to last year now only costs Golden State one more season of Radmanovic.

Even though the Warriors could have waited and received more in return, they should just feel fortunate not to have been forced to take back a horrible contract in return.

Grade for Warriors: A-"

Bobcats,

Start Augustin. Felton is good, but he's never going to be anything more than that. Augustin could be great. Plus, you've lost six straight ... time to try something different.

We have to go get Iverson for a one year deal we really have no choice. It would give us the ability to trade Felton and give us a pretty loaded starting five.
