The company went under in '97 and was in bad shape since 1990 or so (first Chapter 11 filing was 1991, my Dad worked for them at the time). So depending on when you were 8, that's entirely possible.

It's alright. It's a cool building to visit. Has some nice open study spaces, but not enough... they're always full during normal times.
I really like the top floor though, it has some nice stools, and some really cool glassy tables. And the terrace is pretty neat.

I would say it's not much of a library, but that'd be unfair, it really is the modern day version of a library. First floor is the only one with books openly accessible, and is kind of built like a reading lounge. If you actually need a specific book, you don't need to run around finding it, you use that book bot thing. And then you have group study spaces.
I used to be a, well not a hater, but dismissive of it, but I think I've grown to appreciate the thought process behind it.

I think a large part of it is devoted to faculty and grad student research centers and lounges, and they look neat from the outside, so it serves that purpose too.

The creation of the Bookbot literally saved DH Hill and allowed the older library to drastically increase study and collaborative space.

That shit was beyond full.
