Woodson starts today - great interview from http://www.ncsu.edu/features/2010/04/settling-in/ :

2 key questions that i liked:

NC State: What do you see as some of the key differences between NC State and Purdue?
Woodson: Let me start with similarities, because we have very, very similar missions. We’re connected to people across the state in the same way, not only through agriculture and extension but through the economic-development initiatives. [S]ome of the key differences are that there are some bright spots at NC State that are very exciting to me in areas like design. That brings such an interesting mix of students and faculty to the university that really is very different than Purdue. The humanities at NC State are young in their tenure, but very, very strong. And I think the [College of Management] has a lot of untapped potential, at least if I’m to understand where it is relative to its peers. I think one of the areas where [we’re] different from Purdue right now is [that NC State needs] to win a little more in athletics.

NC State: You’ve talked before about the importance of athletics as an avenue through which others view the university. Tell me about that.
Woodson: It enhances the brand when athletics perform at the highest levels. It has the potential to tarnish the brand when things go awry. And what I mean by that is not just losing, but having controversy associated with the athletics program. I’m a firm believer in the value of competitive athletics for the institution. I believe that it’s got to be done with integrity, with strong business principles so that it’s a solid resource and on solid financial ground. When it’s done well, it really adds tremendous value to the NC State brand. You can’t buy the kind of advertising that you get from a successful athletics program.

Sounds like he gets it...here's to hoping that he follows through w/ his words.

Chancellor Randy sounds like he's more qualified for AD than Lee is. Can't wait to see what he does.

i can tell you this, LF is scheduled on many a WolfPack Caravan until August so by that deduction you can bet he might be here another year.

^He's not on this list:

http://www.wolfpackclub.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=9220&ATCLID=204891011&DB_OEM_ID=9220&DB_LANG=&IN_SUBSCRIBER_CONTENT=&DB_OEM_ID=9220&DB_LANG=&IN_SUBSCRIBER_CONTENT=&KEY=&DB_OEM_ID=9220&DB_LANG=&IN_SUBSCRIBER_CONTENT=

But whatever list he is on, he hasn't been at the last few. Someone at PP said he was s'posed to be at Pinehurst but didn't show.

And super regardless of all that, I really doubt that either fired or not, his name on the Carvan schedule matters one way or the other.

Lee Fowler isn't going to be listed as the main draw for a Wolfpack Caravan. People come to see coaches, not the AD.

He was at the WPC in Arlington last week.

^As a depressed State fan the first thing that pops in my head. Translation:

If, over the course of the next two decades, we don't place 7th or better in our conference in either football or basketball I will commence to start thinking about the possibility of preparing a statement that will allude to non-specific, vague references for "change."

I don't think so, I think this guy gets it. I doubt he'll come in and fire Fowler right off the bat, but I bet you he is on the hot seat for real this time.

This guy would totally win everyone over and if he came in to the sports dept and cleaned house--AD, marketing, etc.

^ Based on the Twitter account he's been stuck at his office for months. Hasn't seemed to figure out that traffic circle yet. He may just be moving into the office full time. Nothing to see here folks.

"They’ve had me fired about seven times, too," Fowler said. "I put my house on the market because our house is 4200 square feet and our kids are out of the house. That created a firestorm and yet we have a new chancellor here on Monday and there’s been no discussion about me. There was no discussion ever about Sidney not being the coach.’’

I don't know all the duties of an AD, so i can't emphatically say that he is a terrible AD. But he did mishandle the coaching-transition, and he seems to have below average public-speaking /interviewing/letter-writing skills. That espn interview is kinda terrible.

^^Ralph Friedgen and Skip Prosser are highly questionable "hits" unless the only standard is that they didn't get fired...also the Jagz hiring shouldn't be a positive for DeFillipo since he fired him 2 years later over some bullshit.

How so? It couldn't have gone much worse for Notre Dame.

I love how Fowler manages to turn a discussion about Sidney back toward himself. He basically gave a huge middle finger to all his critics. It is shit like this that makes everyone hate this guy.

^^
I thought this was an assessment of whether he was a hit or miss for Georgia Tech. The nonexistent degree on the resume didn't become an issue until Notre Dame hired him. He was clearly a miss for Notre Dame, all though at least he didn't lose a game in his week or so as their coach.

George O'Leary was only mentioned in the context of Notre dame in the article, and only because Kevin White is now the AD at duke as of 2008. They displayed his hits/misses at ND because he hasn't made any major coaching changes while at duke.
