Has there ever been serious discussion about App moving up to 1-A ?

If teams like Western Kentucky can move up, I don't see why App wouldn't want to take the next step

Yes there has been discussion. The problem is not App, but the NCAA. The NCAA has a moratorium on schools moving up from AA to A. And you can blame the listed Western Kentucky for that. Their 0-12 years are embarrassing. Also, it would be hard for App to recruit when competing with ECU, UNC, NCSU, USC, WFU, etc. Right now they're recruiting against: GSU, Furman, Wofford, JMU, etc. Also, it'd be hard to find a conference that's right for them. Until a new conference is created from the future disbanding of ConUSA or another miracle, App doesn't fit anywhere except their I-AA SoCon.

App's biggest shot at moving up will be probably in 2016/17ish. UNCC and Georgia State (both starting I-AA teams in the next two years) will be wanting to move to I-A like USF and Florida Atlantic. That will allow App some kind of pressure to the NCAA from bigger schools and App might be allowed to move up if they wish .

ASU can't move to 1-A right now.....they do not have an interstate running through Boone. The goal is to eventually make 421 an interstate from W-S to Boone to Bristol.

This is the #1 thing keeping them from it, and they still don't have near enough budget, alumni, etc. to move up. But they are getting close.
