Berman is so great because not only are none of his 'Bermanisms' annoying, but he doesn't overuse them

If crypt keeper is right I'll probably renounce my panthers fanhood.

Given the Panthers front office moves of the past, I can't help but feel like:

45% chance Jake starts in 2010
35% chance Moore starts in 2010
20% chance FA QB starts in 2010
0% chance rookie QB starts in 2010

I'm just worried that Delhomme will somehow win the starting job back despite being outplayed 100 fold by Moore.

Delhomme must look like a god in practice or something.

Quote :
"Sources raise red flags on Peppers

Posted: February 21st, 2010 | Frank Tadych | Tags: Brentson Buckner, Carolina Panthers, Julius Peppers, Mike Rucker, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Pat Kirwan, Philadelphia Eagles, Vic Carucci

We’ve devoted much of this space recently to speculating on the future of Julius Peppers. If, but more likely when, Peppers becomes an unrestricted free agent on March 5, he’ll be the prize of what many consider a thin unrestricted free-agent class.

As for Peppers’ still-undecided future, NFL.com analyst Pat Kirwan suggested earlier this week the Patriots remain the team most likely to land the five-time Pro Bowler. NFL.com senior columnist Vic Carucci followed that by reporting the Patriots “remain very interested” in acquiring Peppers. It was last year that Carucci first broke the Patriots’ interest in Peppers, when the team was primed to trade for him after he signed a one-year contract under the franchise tag.

As Peppers gets closer to hitting the market, however, red flags are surfacing over his passion for football.

“I wouldn’t touch him, for that money and what he gives you,” an ex-Panthers personnel man told The Boston Globe. “On the field, he’s a freak athletically, but it’s whether he shows up or not. He’ll go two and three games and do nothing but take up space. Then he’ll have two sacks, a forced fumble, a pick, and change the game. And that’s the danger. He can mesmerize you, but it’s not consistent.”

That source wasn’t alone in questioning Peppers.

“He could end up costing some personnel guy his job,’’ said an AFC scout with extensive experience evaluating Peppers. “I’m terrified of him. In my heart of hearts, I believe that if you pay this guy, I don’t think you’ll see a double-digit sack [season] again the rest of his career.”

The Globe’s Albert R. Greer also spoke to Peppers’ former Panthers teammates Brentson Buckner and Mike Rucker, who marvel at his talent but wonder if he lacks desire.

Carucci also notes the Eagles and Giants have been floated as having possible interest. But whether Peppers hits the open market as an unrestricted free agent or the Panthers apply the franchise tag and attempt to trade him — an expensive risk to take, although it would allow teams restricted by the ”final eight rule” to strike a deal – Peppers is looking at a very big pay day."

Panther fans have known that all along, but I guess the nation is just now catching onto it.

We'll know by Thurs at the latest whether he'll be tagged or allowed to become an unrestricted free agent. Please don't fuck this up Panthers.

Will miss his occasional big plays, but letting loose of the $ he would require will require. Now maybe we can make a few moves. But will be a gap to feel on Defense.

I was talking to a couple of guys today at physical therapy about how happy I am that Peppers is going to be gone, and they were acting like I was the only person in the world who felt that way. They think he is worth the 21.4 million he would make with the panthers next year, since he is a "pro bowler"

I told them that he is good, and I would love to have him on our team, just not for that much money. Does anyone else on here actually think that he is worth 21.4 million??

The highest paid NFL player as of 2009 according to average salary is:

Julius Peppers of the Carolina Panthers who is paid 16.683 Million a year.

Carson Palmer, Cin $16.166M
Eli Manning, NYG $15.285M
Nnamdi Asomugha, Oak $15.155
Ben Roethlisberger, Pit $14.664M
Peyton Manning, Ind. $14M

Those physical therapy guys are idiots. No player is worth 21+

I'm looking forward to see what kind of money he actually gets on the open market. It won't be as much as much as the media would have you believe IMO.

okay good, I felt like I was in bizarro world. Peppers has been one big headache for us for the last 3-4 years, sure he is a great player (when he wants to be) but not worth the money and trouble.

I also would like to see how much money he gets paid somewhere else. I have a feeling he will wind up in New England or Oakland

The Pats is the name that keeps coming up it contradicts their whole "we don't overpay for guys" mantra.

If that guy walked in the locker room making more than Brady, it probably wouldn't go over well with anyone including the fans.

Julius Peppers-DL-Panthers Feb. 23 - 12:39 pm et

Beat writer Mike Reiss is putting the likelihood of the Patriots signing free agent Julius Peppers at "less than five percent."

Reiss believes "a lot of things would have to fall into place," namely the market falling and Peppers being forced to accept a "reasonable" contract. Philadelphia is a more likely fit, with a glaring need at left defensive end.

I'm just not sure I understand this lack of effort argument, for the season the guy still gets great overall numbers, that doesn't show up argument is for players that don't get big time numbers when people think they should

and for the love of god the guy broke his fucking hand, I haven't seen one of these critics say a word about that, it was plain obvious the guy's numbers this yr dropped off when that happened, he wasn't even playing all the snaps for fuck's sakes, if he has 13-14 sacks like he would have if that didn't happen, is everyone still whining?

yes

he routinely disappears for games at a time

and this is quite telling:

Quote :
"Football's come so easy to him. Does he love it the way Steve Smith or Bryant Young or Jerry Rice love it? I don't think so. But he's got so much God-given ability ... You do think, 'Man, a guy with that much ability, imagine if he did love it.' ''

-- Former Julius Peppers teammate Brentson Buckner, on Peppers, the tantalizing free-agent defensive end of the Carolina Panthers, to Albert Breer of Boston Globe in an interesting story about the risks that await possible buyers in the Peppers sweepstakes."

I heard on Frank and Buck earlier that there was an insider article involving rumblings of DeAngelo to SD.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

We better get more than just a first rounder if we are going to trade him!

I like both Stewart and DeAngelo, but I like DeAngelo more in the passing game. I would much rather say goodbye to Stewart if we were to trade one of them.

if we trade DeAngelo its because we'd get a ridiculous return i think

more likely its just more of the same Cromartie for (insert running back here) that has been going around

Possibly Cromartie and 1st round pick for Williams. Cromartie had 1 really good year and has since proved he's all hype, but he'd make a good nickel corner.

I'd rather him go to the Chargers than anywhere else, I could still cheer for him, but I'd rather not lose him at all.

Maybe they'd be willing to part with Jamal Williams and their first round pick? We could really use a huge, run-stuffing DT (Hollis Thomas can't go for too much longer).

Williams' knees are just about shot. Not really an improvement over Thomas in that regard. Heck, there are rumors the Chargers will cut him.

Williams will be 27 soon. He has maybe 3 good years left. Stewart is 4 years younger and much cheaper. It makes sense to build around him.

it makes sense to me to keep them both...although one of the things Buckner was speculating on was that since Big Cat is one of the more influential owners when it comes to the CBA, maybe he is anticipating what all guys to re-sign, ie Stewart, Davis, etc, and he realizes he might not be able to keep both backs in the long run...so he wants to go ahead and get something for him

Its not about what he wants, its about whats best for the team

You don't actively shop him, but if a deal comes along thats too good to turn down, you take it
