After I mentioned getting this at a restaurant the other week, my friend tried his hand at making it. I think his version looks better than what I had in the restaurant.
Cuban Turkeyburger

Anyone tried this yet?

I wish I could, but I think it would give me severe heartburn. Greasy, cheesy foods don't work well on my stomach.
Also on the list of things that I'd love to try, but would pay for later with indigestion:

I'm going to give it a shot in the near future. I don't even know where a KFC is near me.
I don't think I'd like to try that, at least not much more than a bite. Too rich for my blood.

oh my, how have i never heard of this?
Bacon Explosion
(pics of how it's prepared in the article)
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/28/dining/28bacon.html
Quote : | "He bought about $20 worth of bacon and Italian sausage from a local meat market. As it lay on the counter, he thought of weaving strips of raw bacon into a mat. The two spackled the bacon mat with a layer of sausage, covered that with a crunchy layer of cooked bacon, and rolled it up tight.
They then stuck the roll — containing at least 5,000 calories and 500 grams of fat — in the Good-One Open Range backyard smoker that they use for practice. (In competitions, they use a custom-built smoker designed by the third member of the team, Bryant Gish, who was not present at the creation of the Bacon Explosion.) " | ]4/20/2010 10:18:57 AM |

^^yea, bacon is hella salty, and that pic looks like it would be way too salty. maybe dial back the bacon a bit, get creative with some sliced white onion in the center...hmm. this could work.
^my guess is that the banana would be way too mushy to actually enjoy once it's done being fried. but if it somehow didn't come out mushy...oh hell yea.] 4/20/2010 10:42:48 AM |
lucyinthesky All American 11614 Posts user info edit post |
Well, if you make that while I'm in town, don't dial back on the bacon. The saltier the better. Then again, I'm not sensitive to salt and my blood pressure is too low. 4/20/2010 10:44:01 AM |

Fried plantains are really good. They are a little mushy after being cooked but not so much so that they aren't enjoyable. I imagine bananas would be the same. 4/21/2010 1:28:26 PM |
pilgrimshoes Suspended 63151 Posts user info edit post |
my subconscious got the best of me
first thing i saw when i looked at the cut out part of the steak was a vagina
^plantains much better than naners to fry, due to fiberous nature
one of my favorite garnishes is to take the mandolin slicer, and run a plantain down (skin on) to about a 1/8" slice, long ways
when deep fried, the skin makes it curl up like a potato chip
tastes flippin' awesome and looks cool as shit
and you can stick them into things for presentation
