^hey look, a liberal american citizen who sides with mexicans over americans, what a shocker...i really cant believe a far left liberal would support mexicans celebrating at school and distracting education like that as opposed to supporting the 1st amendment...boy you sure are giving liberals a bad name! how dare Dominic Maciel like the country he lives in more than the shitty country his father was from! Stupid cunt kid protesting America! must be a dumb Christian redneck! oh wait, he's Mexican? THIS BLOWS MY MIND

^^no of course, no idea

nothing to do with you starting this whole lame shit by claiming a flag on a shirt is a "flag"

cause obviously, a US flag on a shirt should not be worn at school, at least on May 5th, because kids of the people who moved here because they hated Mexico and how shitty it was should ALL celebrate Mexico, even if kids of Mexican descent want to wear shirts with American flags like one of the kids who was kicked out of school for the day yesterday

You have to love political correctness when a Mexican-American gets sent home for the day for supporting America instead of Mexico...and you have to love the liberals for advocating it and supporting it

moron just stick to giving harsh opinions of what dumb white redneck kids should do...don't try and comment on what mexican kids should do on cinco de mayo

first off, I believe the kids aren't 100% innocent in this; I say that because if my high school principle told me that I couldn't wear my shirt/hat because it had an american flag, I would have quickly told him to fuck off. I have a long family history of military service, so my family would have backed me up on that.

secondly, school administration officials who did this are completely retarded.

Here's what this thread boils down to:

Basically everyone agrees the kids were acting like douchenozzles on purpose on a prominent Mexican holiday by dressing head to toe in American flag gear.

Basically everyone agrees that, although they were acting like douchenozzles, they shouldn't have been asked to remove their flag apparel.

Where it all went wrong was when TT refused to acknowledge that he was wrong regarding US Flag Code. Unfortunately, from there the thread descended into a shit storm of blatant trolling and deliberate intellectual dishonesty.

I would not describe Cinco De Mayo as a prominent Mexican Holiday unless St. Patrick's day is a prominent Irish holiday.

Prominence doesn't speak to its importance or lack thereof. Whether it's a very important Mexican holiday or not is irrelevent. It has become prominent in the united states as a Mexican holiday.

^^The only reason its prominant in the US is to drum up business for bars and Mexican restaurants. That's about it. Otherwise nobody gives a shit.

Furthermore, its hilarious that people celebrate Cinco De Mayo as a day to be proud of their Mexican heritage. It celebrates the Mexican army beating the French army in the town of Puebla. Why were the French at war with the Mexicans? B/c the Mexicans owed the French a lot of money and decided not to pay them back.

Although, given how crappy a country Mexico is, celebrating something like that seems perfectly in line.

[Edited on May 7, 2010 at 9:19 AM. Reason : it doesn't even have to be said that nobody in Mexico gives a shit about this "holiday" anyway]

^^^ noted...on technicality alone. However, referring to Cinco de Mayo as a "prominent Mexican holiday" is misleading.

Quote :
"For the record, I'm opposed to any high school dress codes which censor based upon content (i.e. the image or words printed on the shirt)... So long as the students aren't wearing something physically disruptive (excessively little clothing, excessively large or hanging clothing, that sort of thing), they should be allowed to wear whatever they want."

trivial? absolutely

wrong in what i'm claiming about his quote/text not matching up? far from it

right after his post with the mismatched links/quotes I replied with:

Quote :
"at least post the right link, since ctrl+f doesnt confirm your like with your quote (first link)"

yet despite this being completely trivial like you say, he refused to admit he was wrong

but somehow I'm 100% to blame for a trivial bullshit argument with moron, when he was just as hardheaded about it as me

Hey, remember these douchebags?

http://www.gilroydispatch.com/news/266724-families-of-live-oak-students-sue-school-district-over-cinco-de-mayo-incident

Quote :
"The parents of three of the four boys who were sent home from Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill on Cinco de Mayo filed a lawsuit today against the Morgan Hill Unified School District, Principal Nick Boden and Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez for violating their First and Fourteenth Amendment rights.

"The families are hoping to have their Constitutional rights vindicated," their attorney William J. Becker Jr. said Wednesday by phone.

The lawsuit, Dariano v. Morgan Hill Unified School District, "seeks nominal damages" Becker said, which is symbolic. The plaintiffs are not seeking monetary damages or an apology. It's whether or not Live Oak or any other school in the United States recognizes their duty to not infringe on students' First Amendment rights, Becker said.

...

The plaintiffs also seek compensation for their attorney's fees and expenses and the cost of litigation from MHUSD.
"

So they don't have any damages, they just want to waste the school districts time and money with a frivolous lawsuit! Nothing more American than that!

It's probably pro bono because the law firms are getting some free pub from all this. But I see that won't stop them from milking the school district for the money.

Hasn't the Supreme Court ruled before on other cases that dealt with student-caused disruptions in school settings? Seems like I recall that there's a bit of precedent.

If it wasn't obvious before, the suit just confirms that this whole thing was just a cry for attention. These people should probably get a life and stop picking on a assuredly cash strapped school district just to prove some retarded point.

Way to go. You acted like douchebags and asserted your constitutional rights and got absolutely nothing. Congratulations. Go fuck yourself.

mostly I don't believe that they were 'just being patriotic'. They were enough of a disturbance to get the principal's attention, and he didn't even come down hard on them, and I'm not sure why you want to blindly trust some high school kids and their money hungry parents.

Besides, you sort of give up your "constitutional rights" when you go to school. Most of the time people have no problem with it, but I think a lot of you are just using this as a platform to launch into anti-government anti-immigrant arguments and whatnot.

I have "the right" to wear gang colors, as given by the first amendment. But I can't wear them in school. Is that a violation of my first amendment rights?

^Oh just give it a rest already, man.
