yes lets pump more money into short term deadend projects like wind and solar...

nuclear is the only way to go to get off of oil/gas/coal for power production.

as for vehicle fuel sources, fuel cells are about the only real viable alternative (electric still sucks due to having very few ways to store it effectively, the tesla roadster has tons of other problems (on top of the incredibly impactful ways the manufacturing of it's batteries (same goes for all hybrids as well) has on the environment (the components get shipped literally around the world)

but fuel cells are incredibly finicky at this point and expensive as hell for a good one.

as for BP shit's been sliding downhill ever since they got their new CEO/management in the early mid 2000's

Quote :
"Can people please stop crying about the potential of a hurricane coming through and making things "worse" There are potential benefits and disadvantages to a hurricane coming through the oil polluted areas. Effectively its a wash. Below is part of a document released by the National Hurricane Center addressing such concerns:"

Quote :
"
"What will happen to a hurricane that runs through this oil slick?

• Most hurricanes span an enormous area of the ocean (200-300 miles) — far wider than the current size of the spill.
• If the slick remains small in comparison to a typical hurricane’s general environment and size, the anticipated impact on the hurricane would be minimal.
• The oil is not expected to appreciably affect either the intensity or the track of a fully developed tropical storm or hurricane.
• The oil slick would have little effect on the storm surge or near-shore wave heights.

What will the hurricane do to the oil slick in the Gulf?

• The high winds and seas will mix and “weather” the oil which can help accelerate the biodegradation process.
• The high winds may distribute oil over a wider area, but it is difficult to model exactly where the oil may be transported.
• Movement of oil would depend greatly on the track of the hurricane.
• Storms’ surges may carry oil into the coastline and inland as far as the surge reaches. Debris resulting from the hurricane may be contaminated by oil from the Deepwater Horizon incident, but also from other oil releases that may occur during the storm.
• A hurricane’s winds rotate counter-clockwise.

Thus, in VERY GENERAL TERMS:

¦A hurricane passing to the west of the oil slick could drive oil to the coast.
¦A hurricane passing to the east of the slick could drive the oil away from the coast.
¦However, the details of the evolution of the storm, the track, the wind speed, the size, the forward motion and the intensity are all unknowns at this point and may alter this general statement.""

ok wow. this little "document" that was released is completely retarded. the entire first section address what would happen to the HURRICANE.... who cares???

the second section does mention something mildly interesting but its still a shot in the dark
Quote :
"The high winds and seas will mix and “weather” the oil which can help accelerate the biodegradation process."

that section is ended with the info on how a hurricane moves-- again.. who cares and who the fuck wrote this? a 6th grader? counterclock wise movement will impact how the oil is pushed around in the water but doesn't address anything.

the whole document is a waste of time

what we really need to be worried about is crude oil drenched shit flying around. crude oil is extremely dangerous

Quote :
"A fact sheet on the demonstrated impacts to human health from exposure to crude oil has been provided by Dr. Michael Harbut, Karmanos Cancer Institute, and Dr. Kathleen Burns of Sciencecorps, outlining the dangerous health hazards posed by oil and oil fumes. sciencecorps.org/crudeoilhazards.htm. Significant health risks and impacts include:

Visible effects such as skin damage, headaches, dizziness, nausea, confusion, coughing, respiratory difficulty, chemical pneumonitis, and other health problems.
Serious effects without obvious immediate symptoms including liver and kidney disease, lung damage, immune system suppression, abnormal hormone levels, infertility, anemia, nerve damage, mutations, cancer, and other serious health problems.
Serious risk to pregnant women, both to their own health and to the fetus’s, including abnormal growth and development, skeletal deformities and other birth defects.
Extreme risk to children, especially newborns, who are very vulnerable to toxic chemicals in crude oil due to incompletely formed immune and detoxification systems. They may experience abnormal growth, neurocognitive damage, cancer and other health conditions.
Those with preexisting medical conditions can see a worsening of those diseases due to even short-term exposure.
Whether health damage occurs depends on individual characteristics and exposure levels, but health experts agree that no exposure is free of heath risks. There is no “safe” level of exposure to carcinogens such as benzene; crude oil contains multiple carcinogens and mutagens."

If you want more info click on the link. The article didn't end; rather I didn't post the entire thing b/c its looooooong.

Over the last several decades Hurricanes and oil have come together several times. I think we'll be okay. Well either that or Michael Bay could be right.

Tony Hayward does it AGAIN:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/jun/04/deepwater-horizon-leak-bp-criticism

Quote :
"
BP is to hive off its Gulf of Mexico oil spill operation to a separate in-house business to be run by an American in a bid to isolate the "toxic" side of the company and dilute some of the anti-British feeling aimed at chief executive Tony Hayward, the company said today.

The surprise announcement was made during a teleconference with City and Wall Street analysts in which Hayward attempted to shrug off the personal criticism saying words "could not break his bones"."

No, people aren't going to break his bones with words. indy is going to run over him, get out of the car, beat him until he was dead, rip out his heart, and burn off his face.

The first sea turtle to be rescued from the oil spill. Since April, 20th over 200 sea turtles have washed up dead on gulf state beaches.

^^The only problem with that is most BP stations are not actually owned by BP. They just sell BP gas. So in reality, you would probably just be throwing paint all over grandpa Joe's service station.

yeah that's the tricky thing about boycotting the stations :-/

but i guess you could still go in there and buy something that's not gas
