And the part with Hedwig bothered me because I remember in the book her just falling to the bottom of her cage and it wasn't detailed... NOT CRASHING DOWN THE EARTH! I cried."

Amen. I HATED the dancing scene. That never happened

^^That part was ok. But the whole "Dobby saves the day! Oh no, its 2 minutes later and he's dead!" thing just didn't sell. There was no investment.

For the Oscar comment... I'm not going to totallyyyy disagree with you but only because I think some of the actors have been flippin awesome and were exactly how I imagined them while reading the books. If Helena Bonham Carter was nominated for something, or even Ralph Fiennes, I would agree with it.

I would agree with Carter, not with Fiennes. Voldemort just doesn't seem evil enough to me. He's kind of adorable in the way that a good kid makes some bad choices but still has a chance at redemption. If I hadn't read the book and was just going off of the characters on screen, I'd be expecting more of a Darth Vader "there's still good in you!" moment.

But regardless, neither was on screen enough to really earn an oscar nomination.

Helena Bonham Carter is on screen for like 10 minutes of a 2.5 hour movie.

What Oscar would she be nominated for? Best cameo in a movie?

Seriously. None of those actors carried the movie enough to even be considered supporting.

Yeh, so I didn't say any of the actors or supporting actors would be nominated for an oscar. They won't be.

But, mark my words: The final installment of Harry Potter (i.e., the one that hasn't come out yet) will be nominated for either best picture or best direction in 2012.

^False.

Do you think Return of the King only won because it was the end of an epic series? It was a flat out amazing movie (though about 45 minutes longer than necessary). If the last installment is anything like this one, with the shitty acting, poor cinematography, cgi so fake looking that muppets would have looked better (see: Yoda)...the point is there is no reason to believe there will be any oscar hype surrounding this movie whatsoever.

I'm aware they wouldn't be nominated because they weren't on screen long enough.. I was mainly talking about their acting ability and how they have presented the roles

I personally think Fiennes is really scary in a calm way if that makes sense

^^I don't know. I kinda feel that ROTK got the Oscar nods because it was the last film and the prior movies were passed up. The first was my favorite, but probably only because I went in expecting nothing and was floored by how good it was, whereas the last two movies could only then meet an elevated expectation.

I don't see that happening with Harry Potter. They didn't keep the same director throughout and the movies are uneven. No sense in posthumously rewarding prior films by giving the last an award, especially when the predecessors weren't all that great - I haven't seen this one, so it could have knocked it out of the park for all I know.

I agree about the comments saying voldermort not being portrayed as evil enough.

The death eaters show enough fear. The movie is built around him being really freaking evil. But, for whatever reason, when he is on screen, he just doesnt come off as this end all be all of evil.

Might have to do with the fact that killing and torturing with magic on screen just isnt very gripping. Belatrix lestrange comes off better simply because she seems so chaotic.

I think the actors are great, just that they don't carry this particular film. I know that wasn't your point though. I do think people who think the actors did a bad job are mostly disappointed the character was portrayed how they would have liked or expected.

^ Yeah, agreed. I mean, I think the 2nd Dumbledore is nothing like I pictured him in the book (1st was spot on) but I don't think he's a bad actor per say...

I don't know, I just always imagined Voldemort being one of those people who could look at you and scare the shit out of you, without getting all loud and shit.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the next one... curious as to how they're going to depict Harry talking to Dumbledore

I think they could have made voldemort look a lot scarier, but these are still kind of supposed to be kids movies, aren't they? Considering they introduced his final look in like the 4th movie... and that some of these movies are still only PG. I don't know, I'm OK with how he looks.

Was at the midnight showing at North Hills, and the manager did a trivia thing for prizes before the show. He asked which broom was the one Sirius gave him, and I answered Firebolt. He said this was wrong, and he called on someone else who said that the answer was the Nimbus 2000. I was like WTF, I've been reading about this for almost 6 months now. Today I went to Target and bought the Firebolt of the "Deathly Hollows" toys which comes with the light up shaft and took it back to the theater. I politely introduced myself and explained that I felt like the answer last night was incorrect, so I showed the package to the manager who then claimed that the toy was wrong. Um... OK, so Warner Brothers is gonna let Target make millions of dollars of these toys and other merchandise and they're all labeled wrong? I then pulled out my phone and went to the Wikipedia page about it and showed him what it says about each of the brooms in this movies and he claimed that it wasn't a credible source. So then I went to find production images and showed him the same image which is on page 1 of this thread and pointed out that the broomstick in the background still has the Nimbus labeling. He claimed that since he had read the answer in a Potter encyclopedia that he was correct and I was wrong. Ugh. If there wasn't a prize involved in this (which was free movie passes), I'd be content to let him continue to be wrong, but noooooooooooooo. Now I just can't let it go. LOL.

Slave, you are correct. He gets a firebolt after his Nimbus 2000 is destroyed by the Whomping Willow.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_kind_of_broom_does_Harry_Potter_get_in_Harry_Potter_and_the_Prisoner_of_Azkaban

http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Firebolt

Harry Potter first saw a Firebolt broom in the window of Quality Quidditch Supplies in the summer before his third year. He wanted one, but he already had a Nimbus 2000 and had to remind himself of that to keep from going in and asking what the price was. Every day that he was in Diagon Alley, before his third year at Hogwarts, he made sure that he passed the window so that he could stare in awe at the amazing and magnificent broom. He received a Firebolt as an anonymous present from his godfather, Sirius Black at Christmas 1993, after his Nimbus 2000 was destroyed by the Whomping Willow. Miniature models were also produced as gifts.[3] Harry lost his Firebolt in the Battle over Little Whinging.[4]

Yeah you did.

Go get the book and find the end where gets the Firebolt. Highlight that section and hit the manager in the face with it until he gives you free movie tickets or something.

better.

On the subject of how scary Voldemort is, I agree that he's scary enough for a kid's movie, but in the books the idea of Voldemort was much scarier than he was himself. The scariest moment for me was when he first came back and his followers appeared. The reverence they gave him (including crawling up to kiss his robes) was creepy. He also talked about killing someone without showing any remorse. That's completely missing from the 4th movie, where he's more cartoonish than menacing IMO.

Finally Dobby is dead. Jar-jar, indeed.

And what a snoozer of a movie. Lots of opportunity to make sarcastic remarks about it to my girlfriend. And she criticized it right back at me. Seems she was bored as well.

The animation in the 3 brothers tale was pretty fun, though.

So when called out on what a ridiculous statement that 7p1 is oscar worthy, you change it it 7p2? Gutsy, saying a movie that none of us have seen is going to win anything.
