Today I learned how to handle filesystem and network share permissions in Windows Server 2012.... Core. Welcome to the world of icacls and net share.

Word to the wise: Always use "net share sharename=drive:\path /GRANT:Everyone,FULL"

And handle ALL actual permissions through NTFS using icacls.

Also learned how to register and modify windows services through the commandline (because IIS management service doesn't autostart when installed via the Core cmdlets).

That debugging mobile Safari is way easier than debugging mobile Chrome. Mobile Chrome also can't do new Blob([1]), and requires WebKitBlobBuilder like some 2 year old browser.

^ You're probably best served with NS0-504 (c-mode) as that will future proof your cert and appeal. NetApp is hard charging with c-mode, and I expect that to be the de facto standard beyond DOT8.

I'm very aware of NetApp trying to jam Clustered OnTap down people's throat. Our company is one of their biggest partners. But the reality is they are going to lose a lot of SMB at the rate they are going.


I will eventually take 504. And you won't see 7 mode after 8.

I just learned that Windows 7 and Windows 2008 have this helpful "feature" that saves credentials for network shares in not one, but two separate locations even if you don't tell it to. I just don't know what to say...

Yeah, I guess the 'net use' command is the second thing I learned about today dealing with this situation. It just confounded me that not only did it automatically save the credentials in "Credential Manager" (when I didn't have the 'Save' flag checked), but now the network connection also persists through closing your IE and Explorer windows (without 'net use'). Windows 7 more secure than XP on all fronts indeed.
