We manage my family farm for quail. Do a lot of habitat work and we raise birds on site and release them. We're able to keep a pretty sustainable population this way. So the birds are half wild I guess lol. They fly good so that's all that really matters.

2 doe and 4 fawns are just kicking it in my front yard right now. I will try to get a pic without spooking them, although the dogs are barking their heads off

I got out the rifle, but the only open shot I had on them was in front of the field where my neighbor's donkey/horse/goats were grazing. So I didn't take a shot

I was looking for this thread Friday morning sitting in my stand. Nothing but cold, and squirrels, and cold.

Squirrel Hunting FTW!

Been trying coyote hunting, however I dont think we are getting the hang of it. Been twice, seen/heard nothing.

See, I thought I had a brilliant idea. I have several predator calls on my Droid, that I used the 3.5mm jack to export the signal to my ipod speaker system. We set that up in the field, and controll it with the phone. I have my buddy on my .22 Mag (under 100yrd shots) and I am on the AR-15 (50-100+).

Seems like a good plan, just cant get any results.

^^ Hmm, I might have to get an app for that.

I want to try coyote hunting. I, too, want a .22-250 or .243, but my 7mm REM mag will do the job in the interim.

^^I dont hear them at my house, but I hunt yotes on a buddy's land. I know he has them, I missed one with my 12ga a few weeks ago during a deer drive.

i had some see-throughs that were nice if you dropped the rifle and bumped off the scope, but they raised the scope up so high that i couldn't get a good cheek weld

i'm about to go squirrel hunting with a buddy in caswell county in an hour or so

i don't think i'd ever waste my time and endanger my life by hunting public land

even if it's only open for bow hunting

[Edited on January 28, 2011 at 1:23 PM. Reason : well, there's a select few game lands i would hunt]

^^I've hunted the region that's barely in wake county....right off of HWY 50 just north of HWY 90....good many small deer in there but i haven't ever seen anything bigger.....friend shot a 4 pt in there.

I only got 2 deer this year and the were both around Lake Harris

gonna cap a few squirrels in the morning

Responding to BHS (^ x 8): The area gtherman is talking about is a good area and I shot a 9 point in that area in 2009. This past year I got a 10 point on Jordan GL. If you want, pm me and I'll send you some coordinates for spots to check out on public land around Raleigh. Just don't be afraid of walking and don't think you are going to get shot just by being on public land (you won't and will probably not see anyone else at the places I tell you).

The customs I would have suggested are like $200-$250.
