8 hours is too much time to spend at the airport.
WWC, Olde Meck Brewery, all great ideas. He can find an Uber to and from without any issue. 8/18/2016 4:06:30 PM |

This comes up all the time, but I never understood why people from Raleigh hate on Charlotte so much. I haven't been to either city in a while, but when I was at State I'd go to Charlotte fairly often since I had friends there and my sister was at UNCC and I honestly thought they were pretty damn similar except for Charlotte having the more impressive skyline and feeling like a bigger overall city. Can someone explain why people hate it so much? 8/18/2016 4:13:10 PM |

I grew up outside of charlotte, and people hate on it because there is not a lot happening and there are not a lot of people between the ages of 20-30, so young people sometimes have a hard time relating to it?
I dunno, it's always struck me as a 9-5 business area with the occasional nutjobs running around at night
also..... the driving, the way some people drive in Charlotte, I can't handle it 8/18/2016 4:22:59 PM |

... and from my limited experience of living on Monroe rd
I just remember growing up in a tiny po dunk town where people talked shit about there being "nothing to do" this is from an outsiders perspective, so I imagine most people hating on it are not from charlotte?
also, Tree I'm sorry that I didn't included "but at least there is James, he is a cool dude and at least Charlotte has that going for them"

yeah, that's exactly my point. people in Raleigh, or maybe it's more of people from Raleigh, seem to have pretty strong disdain for the place and I'm wondering why. Everybody seems to love Asheville and the beach, but the pissing contest about Charlotte, the Triangle, and Triad is funny to me. I don't see any major differences between all three urban areas.8/18/2016 4:52:01 PM |

Raleigh has a collective feel. The people, the small businesses, the community feel. Things feel connected.
Charlotte doesn't have that. I like Charlotte, it's home, but i'm certainly not in love with it. And then i wonder to myself, why am i still here? IDK. Job, family, friends. Those things help make up for the things the city lacks. 8/18/2016 5:11:50 PM |

I only lived in Raleigh for 5 years, and I agree that the NC State campus area seems like a community. But what kind of collective feel is there in other parts of Raleigh? Do all the yankee transplants in North Raleigh make for some homey, community vibe that I just missed out on? 8/18/2016 8:11:11 PM |

Charlotte is like those ghastly tract housing subdivisions where there are like 3 types of house "plans" residents can chose from to give them the illusion of choice and individuality. You have no yard with zero trees, because whatever evil contracting company bought 40 acres and basically bulldozed any natural elements of the property and flattened the topography, so they could crunch as many shitty fake looking dollhouses on the land as they possibly can. Then the cheap sod gets rolled over the dead red clay, ugh. Its Sterile, devoid of soul.
Whereas Raleigh is very real. It's comfortable. Its got character. Its got nature. Its got culture and tradition. Its got a soul. 8/18/2016 10:55:16 PM |

I live IN Charlotte... you're referring to the suburbs. I live in Cotswold, which is pretty much the same thing as North Hills in Raleigh.
There are shitty subdivisions in every suburb... For every Mint Hill, Belmont, Pineville, and Matthews; there are FVs, Garners, Holly Springs etc.8/19/2016 9:36:03 AM |

so far, all these "explanations" are dumb. I agree with Klatypus- y'all mad for driving three hours to see basically the same shit. As for the "community feel", you can find that same shit if you hang out by UNCC, or if you're in one of the specific neighborhoods in Charlotte like Dillworth, Elizabeth, South Park, NoDa, Plaza-Midwood, etc. Quit being such snobs. 8/19/2016 11:12:31 AM |

It was a metaphor my brother. Charlotte is, metaphorically speaking, a fake dollhouse tract house subdivision, whereas Raleigh is an awesome, real, cultured, "thinking man's" type city.

The Charlotte metro area leaks into South Carolina.........ewwwwww
Buncha Clemson and USC fucks driving their Tahoe (obligatory duck hunting stickers on the back) in their boat shoes and 5" inseam shorts.
Go out on Friday, introduce myself to some ladies - "oh howdy, I'm Teresa and this here is Jessica, we're from Gastonnnniiaaaa, whoooooooo". *i turn around and walk away*
Uptown during the work week - the dividing line between Bankers and Duke Energy employees eating lunch - mind blowing (I actually don't hate this, it's fascinating)
I feel Charlotte has more or more prevalent mega churches

Not from Charlotte, but spend a decent amount of time in the area. I think one of the issues stem from the mentality that the capital city should be the most important city. When I'm in Uptown, I see many more young people than I do when I'm in downtown Raleigh. Maybe the banking industry has been doing a lot of recent hires.
I think everyone needs something to compare to and sometimes it's insulting when you don't compare against each other. We of all people should know, especially when UNC tries to set their sights on having bigger rivals and dismiss us accordingly. Raleigh looks mostly at Charlotte to compare themselves. I tend to treat Charlotte like "Mini-Atlanta" and I bet folks there too are more focused on being better than Atlanta than being better than Raleigh. Not like it's all that hard to be better than Atlanta, but it is considered the premiere city of the South.8/20/2016 2:07:09 PM |

IM glad charlotte has the sports teams and not raleigh- I love the Panthers, and could not give two turds for the Tarnets, as any self respecting wolfpacker should..
The only sports Franchise I'd want in Raleigh if at all would be an MLB team. But honestly I dont like the blight, traffic, and sleazyness that major sports brings to a city.
Im totally fine being a fan of the Panthers from up in Raleigh. 8/20/2016 3:20:58 PM |

Speaking of the Panthers, Charlotte was pretty electric last fall. There was a palpable vibe you could feel. You don't get to experience that if you're cheering on a team from afar. 8/20/2016 3:40:01 PM |

Wait a minute... how did i miss this? This is an NC STATE message board.
Why would I care about having pro sports, when I have my beloved WolfFack baseball, basketball, and Football 6 miles from my non cookie cutter tract house close to Cafe Luna (best Italian on East Coast btw)??
I wouldn't trade tailgating this fall at all of NC State's home games, for the chance to go to some lame panthers game tailgate on a Sunday. Ick.
I imagine a Panthers tailgate in the following thought images:
Cold, yet burned hotdogs. Luke warm Miller Light. Sitting in lawn chairs with middle aged desk jockeys in neon blue polos; all of them complaining about going to work Monday and how much they hate their wife.
Watching my Panthers at home on TV, hungover from Saturday tailgating fun at Carter Finely, works perfectly fine for me thank you. 8/21/2016 4:55:33 PM |

One time I went to a Bobcats game on Friday night, a Pack game the next day, then back to Charlotte for the Panthers on a Sunday. Good times.
