The issue isn't just the Cinci game, Greene is better at virtually every aspect of his position (pass protection, receiving and running). I remember TOB saying this is a performance based organization, and Greene has CLEARLY performed better at this point in the season...Haynes should be giving Greene breathers if anything.

Greene is definitely the better/more natural back, but as a true freshman he needs to share the workload so he's not toast physically by week 10.

I'm fine with Green sharing the workload, but I don't think Haynes has even demonstrated he's better than Underwood at this point and he definitely shouldn't be starting.

We really need the crowd to show up on defense for the entire game!!! Against Cincy we forced some false starts and illegal formations in the first half, but we weren't as loud in the second half.

I would complain about it if he was getting significantly more carries than everyone else, but he isn't. And like the previous poster said, he ran great last week after the bad game vs Cincy.

He was fine against GT, but Greene still averaged over a yard more per carry and had 4 catches for 41 yards...bottom line is Greene has outplayed Haynes and shouldn't be getting fewer carries.

^^ I agree kickstand, I was at the Cincy game when the crowd was so loud that the Cincy QB appeared rattled, and the snapper adn QB could not get their timing together...

I dont have a ticket to the VT game, be at 4 of of other games, so for all of you fuckers with tickets, I better hear my speakers rattling come Saturday at 3:30pm while watching the game at home w/friends.

Cant fucking stand VT or their shitty fans! GO Pack!

That was great, forcing all those false starts. However, we didn't need to be loud in the second half. CIncy had already given up and we were tired .

As long as we're ahead or only behind 10 or fewer points, the crowd will be nuts. If VT runs away with it like last year, there won't be much to cheer about. Either way, I'll be there to the bitter end, screaming my head off like every game. GO WOLFPACK!

im still lukewarm on haynes at RB. the move made more sense when we didnt know if greene would be any good as a true freshman. we have depth at the position and its not like any of the guys are graduating soon. im fine with riding him out for now but i'd like to see greene start getting more of the workload. dude looks like he can handle it.

IMO Greene is obviously playing better. I would definitely agree with starting him/using him more often.

I do trust that TOB knows what he's doing and sees something that perhaps we don't, maybe in practice or otherwise. But, if things continue how they've been going, it would be questionable as to why Greene isn't the go-to guy.

I'm excited that he's just a freshman. Plz to not TA on us (post freshman year)

Damn I'm spoiled by the ticket prices I got at GT. $50 per ticket for seats 10 rows up on the 20 yard line. And people on CL are wanting $$$ for shitty seats. Can't get a seat for less than $120 on Stubhub either.

Perhaps TOB understands the conditioning and stamina this game requires throughout the season more than most of us. I agree that Greene is the better back, but as a true freshman he may just not have the legs under him to carry the full workload for the entire season. TOB knows what he has and wants to keep him fresh for as long as he can. If Greene is to be our back for the next few years he will become that workhorse we all want, but he needs a year to get his body to understand what it'll take.

This should be a good game. I think the outcome will depend on which VT defense shows up. VT will be able to put some points on the board and RW and the offense will need to keep it close. Our special teams has to play better and not let VT's run train on us.

My prediction:

VT: 24
State: 21

State's kicker will miss two key FGs in this game. State will continually lose field position battle as our punter muff kicks trying to avoid a VT blocked punt.

did u see him have his assistant hold up a towel in front of him so that the cameras could see his lips move???

uber gay.

he pawns off his losses on the players, as if its not his fault he pulled his starting QB and put in a true freshman QB in the middle of a great game at Auburn. when your coach doesn't show confidence in you, you can't have confidence in the coach. thats been the case at USuCk for years now w/ Spurrier.

It's a Greg Golden/TA thing. Everyone knows Greene will eventually take over. Just a matter of time. I like the toughness Haynes plays with, and the fact that he just hits the hole and goes, but Greene is clearly the more-natural player.

I'll agree that Underwood should be getting some more carries, especially near the goalline. Neither Greene or Haynes have shown the ability to break tackles and plow up field. Underwood can certainly do that.

not that it really matters... but haynes just looks like a db out there. looks silly at runningback.

He's averaging 4.6 yards per carry, how is that silly? Who cares what he "looks like" out there, he's running hard and blocking pretty well. Like most, I agree that Greene is the better RB, but why are we bitching about a kid with that kind of YPC numbers?

Greene: 53 Att / 242 yds / 4.6 avg / 31 long / 4 TD
Haynes: 46 Att / 213 yds / 4.6 avg / 20 long / 2 TD / 2 fumbles

Let's just be happy that we have two RB's performing well and a third waiting in the wings. Damn I'm nervous about this game.

from a technique standpoint, i know what simonn is tallking about. However as you ^ said, the numbers speak for themselves and he's a great receiver coming out of the backfield.

His issue from technique is that he runs without his shoulders lowered, he's too high. Mustafa looks like a tank with legs when he's going thru the LOS. If Dean ever gets hit by a herzlich, bruce carter type, he'll lower them, but too his credit, he's shifty and its hard to hit him square, but it will come if he stays high like that.

On a side note, i love to see Underwood's energy on the side lines, especially when we score, he's so happy for the other RB's.

It’s time to start taking NC State seriously as a threat to play for one of the ten available BCS slots. And QB Russell Wilson as a legit contender for any individual awards that the sport has to offer.

It’s taken a little longer than expected, but Tom O’Brien has the Wolfpack turning the corner and heading toward serious contention in a wide-open ACC. For years, the coach was the Rock of Gibraltar at Boston College, perennially punctuating an eight or nine-win season with a bowl victory. His teams were steady and well-coached, a sure-thing in a sea of uncertainty. In Raleigh, however, he lost seven games in each of his first three years, besieged by injuries and struggling to find the same level of consistency he had on the Heights. Until now.

At this level, sometimes all you need is a little momentum to turn a problematic situation around. The Pack has it, thanks to its first 4-0 start since 2002 and O’Brien’s first in 11 years. It also has confidence, dramatically improved play on defense … and Wilson.

Every program on the rise needs a leading man, a player that brings a sense of calm to the huddle and elevates the potential of his teammates. For NC State, Wilson is that guy. He’s a coach’s dream, a veteran playmaker who leads by example and has the maturity to never become flustered. That Wilson’s professional career is going to be in baseball, not football, is irrelevant. That he’s under 6-0 will only add to his legacy. All that matters is that he’s performing about as well as any other quarterback in the country. In the last two games, double-digit wins over two of last year’s BCS bowl participants, Cincinnati and Georgia Tech, he accounted for seven touchdowns, 750 total yards, and just one turnover. Plus, he’s spreading the ball around and getting rare help from the running game, a combination that’ll cause sleepless nights for opposing defensive coordinators.

In an otherwise forgettable month of September for the ACC, NC State has stood out as a storyline worth bragging about by the league honchos. The Pack is peaking, exciting, and home to a quarterback worthy of a lot more national attention than he’s been getting so far in 2010. For O’Brien, it’s happening in just the nick of time. "

Granted Cincy and GT are shadows of the teams they were last year, but that is pretty sweet to think that we steam rolled two BCS teams from the past year. If you would have told me at the end of last season that we'd beat either team, I would have been as happy a pig in shit.

ACC power rankings from our good friend Heather Dinich

Quote :
"3. NC State (4-0, 1-0 ACC; LW: No. 3) -- The Wolfpack is the hottest team in the ACC right now and will have home field advantage this weekend against Virginia Tech. NC State is off to its first 4-0 start since 2002 and should have a lot of confidence after knocking off the defending ACC champs on Georgia Tech’s home field."

ok, i watched some of the BC/VT game. Now I'm scared... BECAUSE IM SO OPTIMISTIC!!!!!!

Preseason analysts were right: VT was pretty decimated on defense from last year. BC ran on them fairly easily. M.Harris had 111yds, 5.8/carry. the only thing that's gonna hurt in the boxscore is how Shinskie/Marscovetra was sacked and loss "rushing" yards. BC runs the same type of zone runs that we run. BC was very successful running off-guard, off-tackle, but suffered, predictably, running outside. The medium length passes are all open as well when VT brings heat which again bodes well for us.

On offense, VT looks pretty good, although their line isn't great, good, but not great. TT is very much like RW in that he can keep plays alive, get out of trouble etc. (we all know this) but he still makes the same kind of drive killing decisions somewhere in the drive. He can drive them down but they kicked 4 FG's in that game, so BC made adjustments that kept them out of the endzone.

Watching BC im just reminded at how close we came to getting Kuechly and Pierre-Louis. Both of those guys are monsters at LB.

^^truth

I have been surprised by the improvement of the Defense this year. I know some has to do with #56 being back (and he's gotten better as the season's gone on), but the D shows overall improvement EVERY game so far through 4 games. CJ Wilson made some great individual plays while matched up 1-on-1 with a receiver. and Wolff's breakup on Nesbitt's falling throw was highlight reel material.

And Audie Cole is a BEAST. i know he didn't make many tackles on Saturday, but i don't think i saw a blocker get the better of him EVER. He was a HUGE key to our success in not letting GT get outside. There were multiple occasions where he would shed his blocker and force the play to the inside into the arms of a DL or Irving.

GG Audie Cole

first time in a long time i jumped up from the couch and clapped my hands like a doofus (scared the family) when Wolffffffffffffffe tipped that pass. The other really good play was when Manning hit that WR and caused him to lose the ball coming down. Went from 3rd and 4 i believe to 3rd and 15 on the overturn.
