Fun to watch. I find myself rooting for the Canes more than I do Rangers at this point... which is hard to believe for me.

We're now number 2 in ESPN's Power Rankings this week:

Quote :
"Can't deny the otherworldly play of Cam Ward and the youthful Hurricanes (did you catch rookie Jeff Skinner's play in the second of Carolina's back-to-back wins in Helsinki?) in sweeping their first two games of the season against Minnesota. After a dreadful start in 2009-10, Carolina comes home from Europe with its confidence way up."

Scott Burnside is an idiot, and ESPN's hockey coverage is laughable at best. This is just a confirmation of both those things.

I laugh at them every week as there are always some face palms with him. Though they opened with 2 wins, they were against Minnesota. Though I do agree with him that Cam Ward is playing pretty damn good so far.

I have heavily debated posting this in T-dub because I know the knowledge level in here is much higher than on facebook. However, I have mentioned this to a few of my colleagues and they seem to agree.

Does Jeff Skinner not scream Sidney Crosby? I mean the little I have seen him play, and knowing his stats in the OHL.... that kid is just that damn good.

Let the chastising begin if it needs to.

^the comparison has been made before. I don't know, hopefully Skinner will not turn out to be a whiny bitch

skill set seems similar though

I doubt he is a whiny bitch, he is a Cane (which is a biased thing to say)... but Sidney is probably whiny because he is the "savior" and all that jazz. The face of the NHL if you will.

I am just that impressed with his play. Also, haven't had a chance to research lines... but are Sutter, Staal, and Ruutu on the same line always?

Sutter and Staal have never been on the same line this season (IDK about the PP or PK). Those two guys are both centers.

Here's the depth chart according to the canes website: http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/depthchart.htm?dcid=12

I must have been looking at a PP video then.

I also don't like Sully on the 4th line. He plays better with higher skilled players. He would be awesome with Samsonov I bet.

^^those lines, while accurate, are goddamned retarded. Larose is NOT 1st line caliber, O'Sullivan belongs on a scoring line, and WTF is Dwyer doing on the 2nd??

Here's what I'd set:
Skinner-Staal-Cole
Jokinen-Sutter-Ruutu
O'Sullivan-Dalpe-Tlusty
Kostopolous-Larose-Dwyer

I would put Ruutu on that top line. Cole would be traded. I would try Sully on the right with Sutter and and Jussi. I bet he could adjust.

I came in here to post that Sergei is off of the IR and eligible to play tonight, I didnt think they would pull Sully's spot so quick after his preseason. Oh well, as long as we keep winning I'm not gonna question any moves we make

His talent is going to waste. That's fucking a shame because Sully is a good player. You put him on a 2 line and he scores. Guarantee it.

I hope they keep Skinner with Staal and Cole in the 3rd.

Or maybe Skinner/Staal/Jokinen

Cole played well tonight. Yea he didn't score on that breakaway from the left but who on our team is good at those? He was not the reason we lost. He and Staal showed up tonight, Ottawa couldn't handle their speed. I like to bash the guy as much as any other but he was one of our better players tonight. Our inability to get out of our own end is what cost us. They had a 3 to 1 shots on goal ratio at one point. Its pretty pathetic. If not for Cam, we're not in this game. Our defense is horrible.

Cole may have been the best player for us tonight aside from Ward. If he can keep playing at that level maybe his finishing ability will come back. He was really flying.

That break away should be testament to just how badly Erik Cole sucks. He had the ENTIRE blocker side open to shoot at, shot at it, and still hit Elliot. What a fucking joke.

Sutter needs to skate with Rod for a little while... he has been terrible at the dot thus far. He also needs to stay on sides. Other than that, he is an animal.

The Canes played really well I thought, that stupid fluke goal was the God of Hockey smiling on a Canadian team that needed a win.

Last night:

Staal - 25% (5 of 20)
Sutter - 59% (10 of 17)
Jokinen - 36% (4 of 11)
Dalpe - 66% (2 of 3)

yeah i was impressed the canes put together a good third period and came back from being down 2-0 and being beaten in almost every facet of the game for 40 minutes.

but good lord we need to clean up our play in front of cam

I'd also like to see a power play where we actually enter the zone effectively and set up a cycle. However, I am sure I will continue to see Pitkanen/Corvo/etc slapshots from center ice around the boards while we chase it and attempt to come up with it, failing miserably, and watching it cleared back down the ice so we can do the same thing again.

I've never been sold on Joni, I mean he is a talented player, but I feel like he doesn't play up to his potential.

I've also always wanted JML and Kevin Bieksa on our squad.

I would say that Staal and Sutter both need to work on their face-offs. They're both less than 40% for the season. Mind you it's an early season. I think I might have just been thinking about power play faceoffs or something on Sutter though. I think there were a couple of key losses.

no, you should be sold on Joni, he is the fucking man when he is playing like he can

he's a horse, he played the most minutes in the NHL last year. and when he's on, his offense is bananas. remember that long pass to samsonov against Boston in the playoffs? or the pass right in front of brodeur to jokinen to tie game 7?

i guess he just needs a few more games of warmup.

Valid points. I will warm up to him.

Don't ask me to warm up to Cole, though. I'm heading to the Checkers game tonight, so I will update everyone on how they look.

I heard a caller on 610 this morning that was both a State fan and going to the Checkers game tonight, was that anyone on here?

I would never ask anyone to warm up to Erik Cole and his 3 million dollar salary. He had a good last game, but that still doesn't make up for his 30+ game playoff goal scoring drought.

If I was watching the correct game, the Checkers played like shit. However, so did WBS. Samson,Tlusty,Boy Chuck?, Harrison all looked good. Pogge had a few uh ohs. Should be good after a few games together though.
