well, the thing about ECU is we get nothing out of playing them. even if our argument sounds similar to UNC fans talking about NC State, at least we're in the same conference and the outcome matters to both of us.

if we lose to ECU, it's embarrassing.

if we win, who cares, it's ECU, they're not even in a BCS conference.

there's a reason that UNC avoids playing App, and until recently avoided playing ECU. hell, UNC avoided scheduling ECU and didn't play them between 1981 and 2001. UNC hasn't played App since 1940. UNC gains nothing from scheduling them. we don't either, but for some reason we schedule them.

because those teams always suck and depending on your team it can be a good thing to have a 'warm up game' to start the season. Teams like W&M/WCU/etc don't circle the State game on their calendar, they don't get the academically ineligible players kicked out of ACC/SEC schools, and they are just not good enough to win 99% of the time.

I don't mind playing ECU. They need to move into the Big East conference, but I still don't mind playing them.

For people to say that it means nothing is a bit of a stretch. It's still a game that's on our schedule. If we lost, an 8-4 season compared to a 9-3 season could mean the difference in the Charlotte bowl and a better bowl, like the Sun Bowl or the Peach Bowl (if we lost a conference tiebreaker).

So when we get selected to the Charlotte bowl, are you going to look back at our season and say, "eh, that loss to ECU meant nothing"
