i am.

but i'm still hoping that over the course of the next several weeks, at least 1 or 2 of the freshmen will really "get it", and smith's return will make a big difference. we've got the talent, it just needs to come together. a lot of that is on the players. and yeah, a lot of it is on sid and the rest of his staff.

1. Painter/Howell have made progress at the post positions since the last game. They went up stronger and finished better, but still missed too many layups/close shots.

2. Our offense seemed, to me, to be flat footed for less of the game. I saw our offense at least trying to make things happen, even if the possession sometimes ended in a turnover because of overly flashy play.

3. All of you harping on Scott Wood are idiots, he got more open looks this game than he probably has all season (listen to the commentary from the coaches/sports network after the game). He mentioned in his post game interview that, because of all the fouls, he had trouble getting into the rhythm of the game, and that caused him to have some trouble finding his shot. On plus sides, I saw him driving to the basket a little more today, and he did make the game winning basket, so there's that.

4. Lowe seems to really see and understand what's happening on the court. I've done more listening to him over the last couple days (I've wanted to, and just happened to have the opportunity) and he really offers some good insight (not of the outside sales variety).

5. Our team showed improvement on the boards. We out-rebounded Delaware St more definitively (at least in the first half than) I have noticed us do against a team al year (I haven't seen every game though, so give me some slack if I'm wrong). I really liked the effort we were getting under the boards.

6. Our push down the court doesn't seem as fast as it needs to be to live up to Lowe's push style game plan. We'd have opportunities for fast breaks on several occasions or have a couple players beat and instead of pushing and finishing we'd slow it down and pull it out. Hopefully some playing time together will begin to make them more aware of that game.

7. The student section fuckin sucks. They were totally quiet for the first 3/4 of that game. It was infuriating.

DISCLAIMER: I think that people who demand results and what people to succeed or GTFO have a decent reason to be upset with Lowe's performance over four years. However, he is pulling in great talent, and I like where this team could possibly go if he can pull it together. I am on board with keeping him for awhile longer, it's not like I haven't suffered through NCSU suckage for most of my life.

Just my .00000002 millions worth.

not positive, but on the radio they said the referee had said something to Leslie in the first half, perhaps a warning, so he must have complained about something in the 2nd half for the tech

It was a really odd technical foul.

The ref said something to CJ and then walked away...play started and CJ wasnt around anyone and didnt even let out a single breathe and the ref gave him a tech.

the refs singlehandedly let them get back into the game at one point, it was ridiculous.

and the student wolfpack sections SUCKS. I am gonna send an email tomorrow to Yow and see wtf is up...there was like 20 ppl there tops. thats how its been for about 4 games now.

oh and Scott Wood...1st in scoring avg. 4th in shot attempts on the team.

The fact that this thread is 4 pages shows how people already don't give a fuck.....the crowd, the fans, the players. Jesus if Tracy being out causes this much shit, how's it going to be next year without him?

Yeah, in the first half CJ got mugged going up for a shot under the basket and lost the ball out of bounds. The ref called it off CJ's leg and gave the ball to Delaware St. I'm in the top level, so all I could see was CJ give the arms out, palms up, "Come on man, really?" kind of expression to the ref, I don't know if there were words or not. But the ref stopped giving the ball to the Delaware St player out of bounds to walk out on the court and call CJ's attention and scold him, and then he gave the bench an official bench warning, but I don't know what for.

Later, the ball went out of bounds on Delaware's side and they got the ball, something happened that got CJ spoken to again, and then they set up for the inbounds pass defense, and inexplicably, away from the ball, the ref T'ed up CJ.

That ref was an asshole, he had a huge chip on his shoulder about something that whole game. There was another call later in the game that Sidney was trying to get on him about, and he said something in Sidney's direction and walked to the other side of the court without any more conversation. He has a serious stick up his ass.

edit: ^ The team didn't give poor effort, they made a lot of mistakes. Delaware St was no pushover team either, and their lack of size gave them a little bit of an advantage away from the basket. If you're not with the team when they're down, you don't deserve to be with the team when (if) they come up. Either support them or don't, don't be a bandwagoner.

i was with a bud of mine who was not used to how State athletics usually work. i had to explain to him before they inbounded the last time, that there was a very real possibility of a buzzer beater 3 going in.

maybe i'm strange, but it seems like i should expect that our team minus its best player would only be tournament worthy if the rest of the team could easily beat a team like this.

if not, we're essentially the 1995-96 team with Todd Fuller.

and that was the year Les Robinson finally got fired.

I read last night that Delaware State doesnt have a single player on their roster over 6'-8" and have been outrebounded throughout the season. however, they are a great 3-pt shooting team (I believe they were 9-22 from 3-pt range last night) so at least we are playing a lot of different styles of offense and can use that to help us prepare for games in the future

who fucking knows, I'm looking for any silver lining, when in reality we shouldve won by 25 points

Our bigs were forced to guard guards. They exploited that matchup and our bigs couldn't figure out how to use their size to their advantage. We outrebounded Syracuse which is an accomplishment and we also outrebounded Arizona if I remember correctly (not as much of an accomplishment).

Delaware State was 4-5 (1-5 on the road), ranked 231 on Pomeroy and two of those four wins were against Philadelphia Biblical and Washington Adventist. their tallest guy was 6'8"

that's about as much of a pushover as you could hope for

We should have won easily last night, even without Tracy, no doubt about that. Offense was terrible for the first 10 minutes, but Sid made some decent adjustments. Dry spell towards the end really hurt. We played bad defense for long spells, but even when we were switching properly and in the shooter's face, they made some pretty ridiculous shots. I can think of four or five that were defended perfectly and should have never gone down. Weird foul calls didn't help what little momentum we built, either.

Go ahead call me out for making excuses, now.

Besides JV, who only played a minute, we only have one guy taller at 6"9". I'm not making excuses or even trying to make a point, except that saying "their tallest guy was 6'8"" doesn't mean anything.

Sure it does. That 6'8'' guy was one dude...and he only played 23 minutes. I guess one other backup also listed at 6'8'' got 10 minutes. Beyond that, we're talking their tallest guy being 6'5''.

I know I'll get shit as usual, but I think if we wanted to crush them from the get go, you put Vandenberg in. It's sad to say, but he was probably more athletic than that 6'8'' bowling ball on the other team. Him and Howell/Leslie/Painter playing side by side should have meant second chance points on 90% of our trips down the court on offense, and every single defensive rebound. When you have two, potentially three, players who are either taller or more athletic than anyone else on their team, you don't have any excuses. Just shut them the fuck out of the paint more than we already did. Make their only viable option to staying in the game fouling one of our bigs. Run up the goddamned store. Play the biggest fucking lineup you can and just smash them.

People can point all they want to the person who had a bad game. Tonight it was Scott. We already have heard the "well, if Scott hadn't had a bad night...". Arizona it was CJL. Guess what? Every team has those. If you want to consistently win (and win against teams like Delaware State by more than 2), you can't point to that one guy and blame our close win/loss on them. Particularly when all of your starters have more talent than theirs.

why the hell would you alter your TEAM for a lowly DSU team??

no, the key is to MAKE your offense and defense work as it will for the rest of the year. its an easy game and we should have won by 20. you dont change your superior teams game plan for delaware state.

thats ridiculous.

Yes, why alter your team to the weaknesses of the other?

And what superior game plan do we have? Is it the same superior game plan we had against Arizona? Youngstown State? Wisconsin? Farleigh Dickinson? Georgetown?
