^^I saw the tweet and thought it was just some dude he was making fun of for looking like Robert Plant. That's pretty awesome.

Isn't a lot of yall's cup of tea, but Chase and Status' new album "No More Idols" came out a few days ago and it's pretty damn good as expected.

The Raconteurs are great live.

Jack White is great live in any capacity, I have seen three incarnations.

after listening to "ball and biscuit" for the first time post-breakup, i believe it deserves to go down as one of the greatest blues songs of all time, if it didn't already.

It isn't all "NEW" music, but Cave In's Anomalies Vol. 1 just leaked.

Also, Cave In is on the lineup for Krazy Fest in Louisville in May. I want to go. Really bad.

So no more LCD Soundsystem

Expected, but still a fuckin' bummer. Shitty week for important contemporary bands.

that was more expected than the white stripes though since james murphy basically said last summer that he didn't have it in him anymore. i listened to an old npr interview with him from 2007 where he was talking about how his immune system sucks, and he'd basically be really sick and weak on tour. the white stripes weren't exactly surprising either considering their 3 year hiatus, but at least jack white hinted at a new album for this year. and at least lcd soundsystem is doing a fair well show.

yeah, i agree

still sucks that we won't ever hear a new lcd soundsystem song or album again

hopefully james does something cool in his post-lcd career; it's not like he isn't still running an awesome record label in dfa

Yeah, you're a moron.

And how can anybody distinguish what song is on a particular White Stripes album when everything. sounds. the. same.

^^ the last couple records have a similar production style, but there's a really wide swing in style and sound over the course of their career

hell, the first three albums weren't even mastered when they were released

damn... there's way more White Stripes mourning going on than I expected out of this group.

they haven't had a great record in 7 years, imo.

[Edited on February 7, 2011 at 2:23 AM. Reason : good to great, b/c elephant was at least "good".]

i'm a moron, says the guy who has no idea what he's talking about and therefore isn't qualified to make that statement.

had the video for "rubber" by yuck on at work the other day. i'm really glad no one walked by my desk once that vagina came on the screen.

yeah, not even close

I like Elephant a ton, but I like both De Stijl and White Blood Cells more. And all three records sound totally different from one another.

Also, diggin' on this new Toro y Moi. Pretty funky, good stuff.

Rat Soup, you can say whatever you want about me, I really don't care...

But you also said 'one of the greatest blues songs of all time' was written by two white kids from Michigan.

btw...
If you like more traditional blues, I think you're gonna love Blues Hammer

oh i'm sorry. i didn't realize skin color had anything to do with one's ability to play a style of music particularly well and that it automatically discredited you from any sort of consideration of placement among greatest whatevers because a certain sound was once dominated by black folk. my bad. guess i should keep a certain white hick from texas out of consideration too.

Mr. Scrumples, there's been a ton of great music to come out of Detroit spanning many genres and ethnicities (not that ethnicity matters in music).

That said, I don't think "Ball and Biscuit" is one of the best blues songs ever recorded. The Stripes still fucking rule, though.

well "best" certainly isn't subjective

i suppose "one of the greatest blues songs of all time" sort of is too, but at least i'm throwing it into a large bucket as opposed to a stand alone title.

^yeh, I'm really loving the new rural alberta advantage. at first, it didn't strike me as nearly engaging as their first album, but after a few listens, I'm struck by the more mature, more diverse sound of this lp.
