What does this mean?

During the game I thought about how I wish this game or Elon was against a better opponent before ACC play, but then I remembered we open with Wake Forest, so that's about the same level.

^really? that's what you were thinking throughout the game?

i think we played a good game against an inferior oppenent. we dominated more than the final score suggested (76-54).

Congrats to Howell for his 13 and 13 performance.

As a team, we out rebounded SD 45-25. This is a great way to control and win ball games. Although we were out rebounded by Alabama A&M and still won by 31, but this won't work come ACC play.

No I gave factual reasons why the Hickson Costner Mccauley lineup wouldn't have worked (primarily among them Costners recovering from an injury that year and played badly). Another idiot brought up the starting Smith as defense for the first idiots statement which as I stated is completely irrelevant.

In summation go back to cutting yourself listening to shitty emo music and leave discussions to the big boys.

Not hard when we have an arena that is one of the biggest in the country. Whose are larger? Syracuse, BYU, Kentucky, UNC, Memphis? I mean it's impossible for Villanova, Duke, UCLA, Kansas, etc. to average 15,000.

2010 numbers: UCLA averaged 75% capacity (8k per), Kansas 15k per (just below capacity), Villanova's numbers are different because they play in two arenas (you knew that right). Their last game at the hockey rink was vs. Delaware on the 18th, 12k/32k capacity.

We're doing just fine.

Quote :

I mean, just barely.

Attendance for this year's OOC games at RBC: 11900
Last year: 12266 (through 1/1/10, it was 11944)

That's a difference of 2.9%. According to the NCAA, attendance for all teams fell the exact same 2.9% from 09 to 10, so I'd say it has absolutely nothing to do with people not showing up because of our head coach.

I totally respect the fact that you're unhappy with the program and that you attend every game and whatever, but you can't just spew bullshit based on your obviously poor observation skills.

^^ What are you basing your attendance being down statement on? Your opinion of how full the arena should be? So far we have had two home games that conflict with important fball games. We also have had one decent opponent on our home court and a ton of games against nobodies when students aren't around.

You honestly seem to think that even though season ticket sales are up from last year (this is fact) we are going to average less overall attendance? Really pathetic logic there boozie...

You argue that sales are up, but the numbers at the games are down. This means, listen closely, that more people bought tickets and are not using them this year compared to last year.

55% capacity is pathetic I don't care who the opponent is. Our one decent game (Arizona) was about 70% capacity which is still awful. I'm just saying we love to proclaim our fanbase as great and very supportive and we are not backing that up. We have the 3rd largest club in the nation with over 20,000 members and yet we are averaging under 12,000 a game for basketball. This isn't a knock on Lowe, it's a knock on the fanbase.

Attendance is down 2.9%! 300 people per game! Attendance is down 2.9% across the country! It's not us, it's everyone!

We averaged 67% capacity last year (60% this year so far, no clue why you made up 55%), not great but it's total numbers, not percentage that matters. As mentioned, we were 24th in the nation last year and the product on the court didn't warrant that.

And as you mentioned, we have one of the largest arenas in the nation. Using percentages skews the perception that we're not drawing good crowds. (Syracuse averaged 64% last year, we must have a better fan base than Syracuse.) If we played in a 17,000 seat stadium, we'd be averaging almost 80% capacity, which would put us right in line with everyone else in last year's top 25.

Attendance falls because nobody is buying the tickets that the old timers are selling when they can't/don't want to go. Ticket sales up, attendance down means lack of interest/hype OR resalability(?) ... Hard to definitively prove either way.

^^ NO it simply means that so far this season we have played two games that conflicted with significant football games and only one exciting OOC game in the RBC center. I am pretty sure that over 50% of our home games have been during exams or breaks when student attendance would naturally be down. Instead of selling unused student tickets at the box office immediately prior to the game it looks like those seats remain empty.

So let me get this straight. The entire premise of boozie's argument is even though we have sold more season tickets this year than last year our attendance is going to be worse because more people are buying tickets and deciding not to go to games? So I guess it made sense for people (while we are experiencing an economic depression) to go out and buy season tickets that they didn't intend on using? You really don't see the logical fallacy of this argument?

So, I added up the games played through Jan 1 this year and through Jan 1 last year. I get last year at 10,477 and this year at 11,060. And the opener (before we went to that tourney and lost Smith) was up from 9,302 last year to 15,450 this year. Attendance is actually UP this year. And if the attendance at the opener is any indication, it would have been even higher if Smith had been playing the whole time.

and http://www.gopack.com/sports/m-baskbl/stats/2010-2011/teamcume.html if you'd like to check my math.

I used numbers from ESPN earlier

Using GoPack, I get 11900 this year, 11713 last year. I think you included the Reynolds games, which I'm leaving out since they throw things off

Either way, looks like we are drawing better numbers this year

So suck a dick, boozie

I think Howell's play yesterday is going to provide Leslie with an impetus to play a little smarter. I really like what Leslie brings but he may lose his starting spot to Howell if he doesn't start playing smarter.

Stroll on over to football threads fuckhead. I've loved TOB since day 1. He was the perfect hire for our program. Thank God he wanted to come here and Fowler couldn't fuck that up.

Sorry to think that in year five we could contend for a NCAAT bid and have at least 2/3 of our arena full for games. I would love to live in the fantasy world you live in. Our football team could play Shaw and CF would be full thanks to the hype and support behind it.

Two things I liked from this game:

1) We won by 22 even though Wood and Leslie had a combined 2 points
2) +20 rebound margin. Leslie and Howell weren't far from outrebounding San Diego.

Let me just add 1 quick thing about attendance. It is SO much easier for old folks and families to spend a Saturday to drive and spend at CF.

It is much harder to have people show up to a Tuesday night at 7pm game if they are driving distances that are easier to do on a Saturday.

My parents have been season ticket holders in both sports since I've been alive and even they are guilty of this. Understand that people have jobs, and young children, and the most likely "excuse" is that it is much harder to drive the distance on a weekday and get back at a reasonable hour than it is to devote a whole day to a sport.

So people aren't more excited to go to football games than basketball games??? I know there are less games, but you got to see what I am getting at.

Look at our student sections, football is raucous and everyone wants to go. Basketball games getting students there is like getting them to come to class.
