without checking, i'm gonna bet those other corners were in loaded drafts, or at least ones that had a clear cut #1 pick (or several to choose from). this is the weakest draft i can remember, so i'm thinking if a really good player fits yours needs, you take him regardless of where it is 4/26/2011 8:09:54 AM |

Apparently the latest rumblings are that the Panthers aren't sold on Newton and are high on AJ Green.
At least they wouldn't have to pay him $50 million.

i will LOL if the Panthers draft anything other than a defensive player. I'd go with Peterson. He is the most talented and most ready player in the entire draft that can do multiple things for your club. Why reach for a QB that won't be ready for a few years or a WR that has nobody to throw it to him? Anybody in charlotte that expects the panthers to be any good next year or the next are fooling themselves anyways. They should build for the future by getting the best players they can. 4/26/2011 11:51:37 PM |

^^we have the #1 pick in this year's draft and you're talking about next year
way to post up to your stereotype
Petersen = safe pick, good player in the league for many years Dareus = Emeka Okafor of Defensive Tackles...solid but already at his ceiling and not Ndamkong caliber Green = tremendous wideout but lacks stud WR speed, still that didn't stop Jerry Rice Fairley = more upside than Marcell but serious work ethic questions Newton = best upside but worst downside, probably won't legitimately contribute for a year or two minimum but could be someone that defensive coordinators around the league shit themselves over gameplanning
I really don't see any other possible players the Cats would draft unless they trade down which I would optimally want over taking any of those guys 1st overall

True, but doesn't this work the other way too? Not saying I want Green, but our best WR is now David Gettis. That's just depressing.
At this point, I'm ready to just say fuck it and draft Von Miller. LBer is probably the least of our needs, but he seems like the biggest impact player in this draft. Realistically though, give me Peterson, Dareus, or trade down. I'd love to get somewhere at 6-10 and wait for a player like Fairley, Jones, or Amakumara to drop

rivera is switching to a 3-4, right? Might not be a bad move if so...miller would be a beast pass rusher on the outside in a 3-4...and they would have a sick LB group...especially if davis comes back anywhere near what he was4/27/2011 11:48:12 AM |

They are pretty much paid to be fortune tellers. If they're wrong, they don't really lose any credibility because "that's how complicated football is." The one thing that is impressive about them is their knowledge of pretty much every possible player eligible for the draft. Even in the later rounds, they still can give pretty sound summaries of their game and how they might project to their new team. Regardless, I think they both suck.4/28/2011 1:07:40 AM |

Dunno about the best thing, id argue UNC being dragged through the mud the last 9 months
But it was definitely enlightening and while a guy like Kiper might be able to spout off a 5 minute description about a 6th round right guard, its clear he has an agenda 4/28/2011 1:08:01 AM |
