because you're not a red sox fan, I guess I can see the mentality behind thinking this.
as someone who has cheered for the sox since childhood and lived through shit like buckner and aaron fucking boone, believe me. this year was infinitely easier to deal wit. 2003 happened before "the curse" had ended...at the hands of the yankees...in a game which it looked like was locked up until grady fucking little kept pedro in up 5-2 in the 8th.

LOL at a Yankees fan for calling out Red Sox players for roiding up. The Yankees have some of the poster children for roids in their organization. Clemens, A-Rod, Giambi, Pettite, etc. Weak sauce argument calling out a single Red Sox player. 9/29/2011 5:56:48 PM |

Who's a Yankee fan? I hate the Yankees. I hate both of those teams. I hate any team that throws away and wastes money and generally controls leagues by doing so, because nothing ever fucking changes; regardless of how blatantly obvious it is when things need to.
The steroid angle in regards to the 2004 Red Sox was written about by someone not terribly long ago. I just hate that 2004 and 2007 happened. I wish we could just mar everything that came from those two years; ESPECIALLY all these shit fans that hopped on board. "The Nation"...can fucking go to hell. 9/29/2011 6:14:56 PM |

I agree though that the Red Sox bandwagon stuff was out of hand. Winning teams always develop some sort of bandwagon. I saw some douche while driving through Lumberton today with both Yankee and Cowboy logos on the back window of his truck. I immediately did this 9/29/2011 6:26:58 PM |

ugh. the effect of steroids on the game is incredibly overstated. not saying they don't/didn't have an effect, but there's absolutely no way of looking back at every play ever made, every pitch ever thrown, and every home run that was hit and determine that, had the player in question not been on steroids, the ball would've stayed in the park or something along those lines. so it's just really, really silly to say that steroid use by manny ramirez had a big enough effect over two entire seasons that were three years apart to give the red sox enough of a push to win the world series. the entire red sox's offense was an unstoppable run scoring machine in october of 07. you can't even begin to suggest that every single one of them was so roided up that it was the driving force behind it. i don't care for the red sox, but i'm not stupid or ignorant enough to make sorry attempts at belittling them that have little to no weight.9/29/2011 9:17:18 PM |

^^ please excuse my frustration. i'm just rather sick and tired of the whole "but.....steroids!" argument. people just don't look at it rationally and often ignore the fact that baseballs themselves were/are juiced just as much as the players. 9/30/2011 9:38:02 AM |
simonn best gottfriend 28968 Posts user info edit post |
^ that is a very good point. that's rarely mentioned, but it makes it absolutely impossible to try to separate out steroids.
and really, people have been using steroids for a long time, and i'd bet anything (if it were provable) that baseball players have been using steroids for way longer than people give them credit. same could be said for any sport, actually. fuck, tiger woods got caught w/ his hand in it. 9/30/2011 9:55:08 AM |

Yes the Red Sox greatly underachieved the past two seasons, but firing a man that won two world series in the past decade is just stupid. It's not like the problem was with team chemistry or game management. It was due to not having pitching depth, injuries, and individual players not performing up to their normal levels. Cannot blame Francona for that. Hope the Cubs get him just to help out that LOL franchise. 9/30/2011 11:52:05 AM |

debatable since managers tend to do more harm than good to their team through "strategic" decisions. some years their choices will result in a positive number of wins; other years they will result in more losses. unless you have that data in front of you for francona's game management in 04 and 07, it's not accurate to say he won them 2 world series. it's probably more fair to say his players respect him and like playing for him. that can't be quantified of course, but it probably had more of a positive effect for his players than his game management.9/30/2011 12:15:34 PM |

apparently francona was citing team chemistry as an issue, saying the players hated each other and whined all the time
if only the players liked each other then maybe papelbon wouldn't have blown that game against the orioles. the players would've banded together like in a sports movie, and dustin pedroia would've given a rousing speech, and papelbon would've cried a little from inspiration, and the postseason would've been theirs. 9/30/2011 12:40:43 PM |

Article on NESN says its still not 100% whether he's gone or not yet. I normally don't put too much stock in team chemistry or whatever, but there was something off about the feeling I got from watching this team so much this year. Epstein also cited some player's conditioning as something which wasn't up to the standard they expected, the only players I could think of would've been Youk, Beckett and Lackey. It's gonna be a looooong offseason with so many articles coming out about what went wrong, etc, etc. 9/30/2011 2:36:04 PM |

Just said they're "giving it some time" on the Van Pelt radio show.
Also a lot of talks about pitchers drinking when they were off that day and how that's somehow a reason. I guess it's because we all know they weren't drinking when they were winning? 9/30/2011 2:40:29 PM |

terry francona allowed grown men to consume alcohol on days when they weren't pitching. it's obvious he didn't have control over his players and that they didn't respect him and that's why this team fell apart the last month. 9/30/2011 3:27:23 PM |

i'd like to say whoever would take over for theo would probably just be really dumb about the way they spent the money, but with the kind of cash that team has it probably wouldn't make much of a difference
but i would love to see theo and cashman leave (even though the yankees want cashman back) and see both of those teams just piss money away on overvalued players who are past their prime and won't produce the way the front offices think they will, and then the rays and jays take over the AL east
and the orioles maintain business as usual since 98 10/2/2011 2:02:18 AM |
