I thought I read we have 16 back to backs down from 22?

Whatever it is, I think it will help our record.

Talks were scheduled to continue throughout the day, with news potentially coming as soon as today."

Word was that a 2nd round pick was all it would have taken back at the trade deadline. I wanted us to jump all over that, but figured that there may not have been a whole lot of veracity to the rumor... because Rutherford would have pulled the trigger...

But he didn't, and apparently a 2nd rounder was exactly what Colorado wanted.

Wtf

Do you ever post anything thats not a pic of babchuk in these threads?

Its cool and all if you wish we still had him, I'd disagree, but would it kill you to contribute?

lol you don't know who i am do you?

we've met several times at the rbc

i do it mainly because i find it hilarious but also because i do see a lot of value in babchuk

okay, to contribute:

losing jussi jokinen really hurts us; i also think corvo is under-appreciated. something needs to be lit underneath him to get him to play to his potential. chad larose has an incredible work ethic but is definitely over-valued based on his contributions. then again who can really quantize his motivational value. cole i feel is a reach for a re-sign as is stillman, although i'd place more money on stillman than cole in terms of production.

d needs to be shored up but we need another star-scoring threat.

I liked the potential he showed the last season, it was an improvement, so i wouldn't have died if we gave him more time. That ship has sailed though.

Just found it odd that you post elsewhere but never any words in the hockey threads. Just babchuk pictures, and sometimes large ones.

lol yea i feel you man, no worries, i don't take offense, i just have trouble taking anything seriously. i mean after watching the movie miracle it's hard to take the hurricanes seriously at all.

make no mistake about it though - i absolutely love the hurricanes and they will be my team until i die

though they will not surpass my love for the denver broncos 8)

Dude if we get Talbot, then the Goat is instantly my favorite bar in Raleigh if he becomes a frequent customer. Please to make both of these trades happen!

I love the Murphy pick. Goes against JR's stance and at least we picked the best player available. The more I read about the kid I hope he's like Cam Fowler last year and fell to the perfect team at 12 and instantly comes in and makes an impact!

If he were 6'1, I'd be a lot happier about Murphy. The buzz about his talent level (some saying the most offensively talented d-man in the draft in the past decade) makes this guy happy.

Now that we lost out on all of our trade targets, the entire season hinges on signing Pitkanen. Without him (and probably even with him) the defense is a joke. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a 1 or 2 year deal.

I really want to see Jokinen back, but with or without Pitkanen I don't like our defense if we don't go out and get a legit top pairing defenseman. I'd rather just throw Pitkanen's money into improving our top 9 instead of bringing back the same defense from last year.

hopefully we can tweak our defense, but i am very excited about dave lewis coaching them now. if he can work a little magic and help keep Cam from facing 30+ shots every fucking game, it would be huge for this team.

I like the Murphy pick.

I also think NYI and EDM are going to be sick nasty in the next few years.

Bruins can still suck it, although Dougie is a good player.

East

North: Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo, Boston, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey

South: Detroit, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Washington, Carolina, Tampa Bay, Florida "

Well, it's been a good run. Hopefully we can make the playoffs this season because it will be the last time we ever do.

Jesus Christ that would/will be an unreal division

Can we just agree to play all of our games an hour later and move to the west central?

Pick any other division... I don't think I really want to play in those either... each has one or two powerhouse teams. There's the crap ones like the oilers, BUT they have Taylor hall, and now this new kid... they can be deadly in a few years. Same with the islanders and blues. Lots of maturing young talent, and some positive steps.

Then theres teams like Columbus and florida that are drafting poorly, and likely not progressing; both are in the new 'south division' so, there's that.

I think this might be the dumbest thing the NHL could do.

Someone said it before, I think. 2 conferences, top 8 make it. Why make it tougher than that?

^^baseball has done it for years, a 16 and 14 team league... including one division with six and one division with 4... its bogus, but proof that the league doesn't have to give a shit.

I saw an interesting proposal, and expanded upon it a couple of weeks ago (think I posted it on lgc, not tww).... 3 ten team conferences, two divisions per. Play your division 6 times, your conference four times, and all other teams twice. Everyone plays everyone at home and away, still have divisional rivalries.... 84 game season.

Playoffs under that set up would be something like, six divisional winners get the top three seeds in each playoff bracket... the wales bracket and the Campbell bracket. Then have like the next 2 from each conference standings seeded into the brackets. The remaining 4 teams are wild card based on most points. Theoretically they could come from all one conference, and since you play so many games across the league highest point getters will generally be the bests teams. You could also have a BOS-MTL final since seeding is spread out. You could also win the Campbell bowl one year and the prince of wales the next.

I'm mulling over tweaks, but am considering sending it up the food chain, now that i know theyre looking for radical... I wouldn't mind hearing suggestions
