Glennon's stats (Yards, TDs, Completion %) makes him a top 30 QB. However, his/the teams 7.9 yards per pass attempt is not even top 50.

i usually sit in front of the stereotypical dumb redneck PP poster. he wouldn't be happy if there wasn't something to complain about. This year he talks about RW as if he State's greatest player ever. He's the same guy who continually cursed tob the last couple years for not playing glennon after every rw mistake.

and MG's stats ain't bad. i did notice he's taken 3x as many sacks this year. No doubt due to inferior 0-line play and not being able to scramble and throw it away.

sorry, just posted this elsewhere, but realized it should go here

Quote :
"Through six weeks, Glennon is already one of the most prolific quarterbacks in the Atlantic Coast Conference and is on pace to have a record-setting start to his career.

He leads the ACC in touchdown passes with 16 and has thrown just four interceptions. He is also second in the league in passing yards (1,486 yards) while completing nearly 65% of his passes.

In Saturday's win, Glennon tossed four touchdowns to four different receivers and had 244 yards on the day

Look, Glennon is a good qb/is going to be a good QB, but the whole premise of this thread is retarded.

nobody thinks he's actually going to win the heisman. it's just a thread to discuss the woflpack's new qb.

so, hypothetically, if tob happens to be let go after this year do you think glennon would tranfer, since he wouldn't have to sit out?

Named offensive back of the week. 19/29, 253 yards, 3 TDs against #7 Clemson. Not bad.

While leading State to it's biggest comeback ever (and 2nd biggest in ACC conference history), Glennon tied two other records:

-Six TDs (five passes and one run) - only other State QB to do this was Rivers
-Five TD passes - Glennon's only the 5th State QB to this, RW did it in '09 against FSU

Now that the season is (almost) over, does anyone still think we would have had a better record with RW? Nothing against RW at all, but I think Glennon had a pretty good season (and no, I don't think he will win the Heisman )

I know, i know. But plenty of people were speculating at the beginning of the season.

Anyways, it's pretty amazing that Glennon had such a good game, after the offense played so shitty for for the first 3 quarters.

already in the P Rivers club for scoring 6 TD's in a single game. only 2 people in ncstate history can say that. 28TDs for season #1 aint too shabby.

Fixed that for you.

Look, Glennon was Harrison Beck awful the first 3 quarters of the game. I'm glad he led us back and we won, but goddammit he was miserable. Staring down receivers, throwing into double coverage, completely missing wide open targets (even check down receivers like 5 yards away).

So if you want my opinion, yes we win more than 7 this year with Wilson. Also we wouldn't have had to come back from 27 down against the worst ACC team.

You sir can eat a fucking pile of shit.

Are we really comparing Mike Glennon to Harrison fucking Beck?

36/55 306 yards 5 TDs 1 Rush TD and 1 pick and you have the gaul to complain?

Glennon's season stats are pretty comparable to RW's too.

(And RW has the luxury on being a part of a more potent offense... of course that means their RBs get more of the yards and TDs)

I looked for the WRAL gif that compared the two QBs stats, but i couldn't find it.

Is someone really comparing Glennon to Beck?

Glennon got another Player of the Week Award

Quote :
"OFFENSIVE BACK – Mike Glennon, NC State, Sr., QB, 6-6, 232, Centreville, Va. Glennon completed 26 of 55 passes for 306 yards, five touchdowns and just one interception in NC State’s historic come-from-behind victory over Maryland. Glennon tied the school record for touchdown responsibility by passing for five touchdowns and running for a sixth, tying the mark Philip Rivers set in 2002 vs. Navy. Also, Glennon’s five touchdown passes against the Terps made him the fifth NC State player to pass for five TDs in a game, the last being Russell Wilson against Florida State in 2009.

Glennon set personal career highs with his 55 pass attempts (sixth in NC State history) and 36 completions (fifth). Glennon now has 28 touchdown passes on the season, moving him into a tie for third place with Wilson (28 in 2008) on the NC State single-season list for TD passes. Only Philip Rivers (34 in 2003) and Wilson (31 in 2009) have thrown for more touchdowns in a single season than Glennon has so far in 2011."

We would have won one, maybe two more games with RW at the helm (definitely BC...maybe Wake). I don't know if it would have been worth it to have kept RW if Glennon would have left. Because I think Glennon will be great next year.

As far as the Maryland game goes...he missed about as many throws as our WRs dropped. He made one really bad throw on the INT, but had a GREAT game regardless.

I think what a lot of people fail to realize is that our WRs have really sucked at getting open this year. We also don't have any Owen Spencers and Jarvis Williams that are tall and can go up and get the ball...which RW benefited a lot from. So a lot of these check-down throws are pretty much all we've had open a lot of the time. Bryan also sucked ass for a majority of the year.

Considering that our o-line has struggled to protect Glennon and that we have mediocre at best WRs...Glennon has had a very good season. He's made a couple poor throws, made some bad decisions, and has missed his share of receivers...but he's a damn good QB, especially it being the first year he's gotten any significant PT. If you can't see that...you're a fucking idiot.

^edit: omg. that's going to get ripped to shreds. 3.....2.... (i actually agree with you for the record!!!)

we've got tj yates playing 3rd string for the texans (and getting PT), wilson has already been annointed the 'next brees', bryn renner is heralded as the best qb in history at unc, danny obrien is still hyped up every week by heather dinich....

and yet glennon is the one still getting shit on by everybody.

Generally I'm happy with the way Glennon is playing, especially considering it's his first year playing, but it looks like he's really tentative when it comes to passing the ball more than 10 years, despite having a rocket for an arm. At first I thought it used to be the play calling, but more and more it appears to the Glennon. I don't know if it's him not seeing the routes, or him being tentative about interceptions, but during the Maryland game, especially in the first half (but the whole game really) he had wide open receivers 20-30 yards down the field and would check down 90% of the time, and time was rarely the issue.

Maybe most of the issue is the receivers not getting open, but being at the Maryland game on Saturday, that's not how it appeared to me.

I'd look tentative too if the DBs had a decade to make a break on the ball

RW can pass the ball to the future.

^^

I think he's tentative a lot of times because he knows he's about to get hit. He can definitely be more comfortable in the pocket, but hopefully that will come with better o-line play and more experience. And I was at the Maryland game and I didn't see the wide open receivers that you saw. There will always be a few plays where the QB misses the wide open guy..but a lot of times it looks that way because the DB will break to the guy it was actually thrown to.

The WR play had been really bad most of the year, but Smith and Palmer have picked it up and the others have dropped less balls.

I have no clue who will be our top WR next year. 3 of the 4 on the two deep chart are SR. we only get Palmer back and i think he will have a big year. Payton is a SO and also Underwood who is super fast.

Hakeem Flowers is our highest rated in the last 3 classes (109, 3 STARHSS) if you don't count Creecy (35, 4 STARHSSS)

[Edited on November 28, 2011 at 2:44 PM. Reason : Redsshirt Flowers.

Also we have only taken 1 WR in 2011 (flowers) and 2010 (creecy listed at WR but plays RE and Palmer listed at RB plays WR) and 2 WR in 2009 (Underwood and Payton)

We'll have a redshirt Flowers AND athlete Morgan projected to play WR next year, and we've got two committed for 2012. And we've got a lot of depth at TE, despite losing Bryan. Mustafa should help out some too.

[Edited on November 28, 2011 at 2:57 PM. Reason : B Underwood is a rs freshman this year, payton is a rs sophomore]

I bet that Charlie Hegedus (if he stays committed to us) is going to be a stud here.

He is a tall, physical receiver with sub 4.5 Speed.

Fayetteville Observer >> N&O

Quote :
"Batten: N.C. State coach made right move with QB Mike Glennon
By Sammy Batten

CHARLOTTE - Nobody would have blamed Tom O'Brien for saying it, or for Mike Glennon for thinking it.

But if there was any doubt left that O'Brien made the right decision last summer to part ways with Russell Wilson and hand N.C. State's starting quarterback position to Glennon, they should have been laid to rest after Tuesday's Belk Bowl.

Glennon capped an stellar rookie season as a starter with a record-breaking effort in leading the Wolfpack to a 31-24 triumph over Big East Conference co-champion Louisville at Bank of America Stadium.

Standing in the pocket with the poise of a young and much skinnier Ben Roethlisberger, Glennon picked apart Louisville's secondary to the tune of 21 completions in 33 attempts for 263 yards and three touchdowns to earn Most Valuable Player honors.

A prime example of Glennon's composure and skill came late in the first quarter when, being pursued by multiple Louisville defenders, he was flushed out of the pocket toward the right sideline. Sensing the Cardinals closing in, Glennon held the ball until the last second before throwing off balance to T.J. Graham for a key first down.

Yet even after making those kinds of plays on the major stage of a postseason bowl, there were no "I told you so's'' from Glennon or O'Brien, even though they'd be perfectly justified for making such comments.

After all, many of us in the media and even a good number of Wolfpack faithful thought O'Brien had made fatal career move for telling one of the nation's best quarterbacks and a beloved N.C. State figure in Wilson that his services were no longer needed last summer. Wilson, of course, transferred to Wisconsin where he's enjoyed a banner senior year in taking the Badgers to the Rose Bowl.

The decision was a gamble, but a calculated one for O'Brien. He knew he had a special, but unproven talent in Glennon. He decided in the end to keep one potentially great quarterback for two years rather than a proven one for a single season.

Glennon has made the move look brilliant by leading the Wolfpack to an 8-5 finish and putting up statistics comparable to some of N.C. State's best, including Wilson.

His 31 touchdown passes are just three fewer than the school record set by Philip Rivers in 2003. It also matched Wilson's best mark with the Wolfpack produced in 2009.

With his passing yardage against Louisville in the Belk Bowl, Glennon became the fourth quarterback in school history to surpass the 3,000-yard barrier. Rivers achieved that feat three times, Wilson did it twice and Jamie Barnette once.

The three touchdown passes against Louisville also put Glennon just behind Rivers when it comes to that statistic in bowl games. Rivers had five in the 2003 Tangerine Bowl against Kansas.
Not at fault for losses

Some may argue that the Wolfpack might have won more games if Wilson had been the quarterback this season. Maybe. But it would be hard to put any of N.C. State's losses this season at Glennon's feet. Three of those five occurred in the first half of the season when the Wolfpack was limited on defense by a rash of injuries to its defensive front.

Glennon's performance is even more impressive when you consider a couple of other factors. He was working without the Wolfpack's best running back, Mustafa Greene, who missed the entire season with an injury. Glennon didn't have the advantage of a great receiving corps either, with only senior T.J. Graham emerging as a consistent threat.

The best part now for O'Brien and N.C. State is Glennon will only be better in 2012 after this season's experience.

Of course, Tom O'Brien knew that all along. Even if he doesn't want to say he told us so.
Staff writer Sammy Batten can be reached at battens@fayobserver.com or 486-3534. "
