Charleston is all about eating and drinking...so that's what I would have recommended.
I use to go to the improv shows at Theater 99 at lot when I was dating around (great early date place). Grab some food and wine at Muse on Society Street and catch a $10 show on the weekends or $5 Laugh for a Lincoln show on Wednesdays.
34 West is another good little theater with fun shows (http://www.34west.org/).
O'hara and Flynn has stand-up comedy on Sundays. I haven't been, but I know the comics, and they're pretty funny. You can find their event information on facebook (don't see it listed on the website...because I think the actual bar closes down and give it to the head comedian...David Lee Nelson...for the night).

Heading down today for the rest of the week. Give me a quick recap of bars to go to? We are staying near Market St, but with Uber and whatnot. not a big deal.

What are you looking for? Cocktails, beer? Snazzy or laidback? Dives or hot spots?
Craftsmen Kitchen and Taphouse (closer to Market) and Closed for Business are your beer meccas downtown...a little further away (still downtown, but will need a bike or Uber), is Edmund's Oast which is one of the better restaurants, but also the best tap selections in town. They also have around 10 house brews that are excellent.
Belmont and the Cocktail Club for the cocktail lovers.
Starz Rooftop for the hot spot and best view on Upper King. Vendue Rooftop and Market Pavilion for rooftop bars near the Market.
Rarebit for a solid bar all around. Awesome Moscow Mule's on tap, good mix of people...young/old, business/college. Warehouse is another trendy place, although I hear its getting a little young. 11/17/2015 8:59:33 AM |

The nightlife has pretty much abandoned the Market area, but there are still a few good spots left. Craftsmen is one of them, I also forgot the Gin Joint (cocktail-centric, of course).
And not really a bar recommendation, but Minero is Sean Brock's (James Beard winner, Bourdain butt buddy), Mexican restaurant...and it's pretty awesome. They're open for lunch, so I definitely recommend that. And Pearlz isn't top of the line on any category...but their happy hour is probably the best in town with really good draft beer and wine specials along with half off oysters. You can always start there one night with a couple drinks, dozen oysters, and some oyster shooters.
Oh...and the Griffon is still a local favorite. Dive bar with a decent draft selection and darts.

So I finally got out to Xiao Bao Biscuit last week. I had the pho. While I can say it was delicious, I'm a bit frustrated that they call it pho. Pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup, typically with some thin slices of meat that cook in the broth as the dish sits in front of you. What I got was a large bowl with a small lump of veggies sitting in a tiny puddle of liquid, topped with a couple of slices of raw meat. My date and I both sat staring at it until the waitress came and asked if everything was alright...when we realized this was going to be it.
Once again, it didn't taste bad. It actually tasted very good. But I think I'll stick to the less hip traditional Vietnamese restaurants for pho from now on. We were both finished eating in 5 minutes and still starving afterwards.
And what's the deal with those chairs?! I don't think I've sat in one of those since elementary school!
Maybe Charleston is too fancy for me... 2/4/2016 12:37:28 PM |

Pho is the new trendy dish going around these days. I went to Revelry on Sunday for the 2Nixons pop-up. I thought the Pho was really good, but $14 was a little on the cheap side for something that I know cost them a couple bucks to make. But everyone's paying it, so what do I know.
I haven't been to XBB in a while, but I still have a hard time straying from their Okonomoyaki. Wife and I will normally split that and two other dishes and be more than satisfied. They've always been on the pricey side and its hit or miss on the size of their dishes. We've definitely had our "that it?" moments when something comes out in regards to the size...but the taste is always on point. 2/4/2016 1:12:27 PM |

I mean...Basil and a few other restaurants have been making great Pho for over a decade (or as long as I've been here). And XBB has been doing it since they opened three years ago...I guess it's just now started to hit a food truck or two and a guy doing pop-ups at breweries and shit who's got a ton of pub.
There was a recent article about where to get the best Pho in town and 75% of the places have been around for years. 2/4/2016 4:27:34 PM |

She wanted to try the okonomoyaki, but I had talked up pho so much, she felt compelled to try it.
I'll probably give the place another try at some point, just not going in so hungry.
Also went to that fancy dessert and bar place. I got the snickers cake. Looked delicious. Had to stand and wait 10 minutes after I ordered a slice, thank god it was nice out. The cake was dry, bland, and WAY overpriced. I was kinda expecting that. Won't be going back there. 2/4/2016 6:04:35 PM |

Ah...Kaminskys. I mean...not that you can't get good stuff there, but they make a bunch of cakes and freeze them. Probably why your cake was dry. In general, avoid everything in and around Market St (with the exception of Cru Cafe). Get desert at dinner or hit up Parlor Deluxe or Jeni's Ice Cream if you're craving something sweet (or go sit at the bar at Peninsula Grill and get the Coconut Cake. 2/5/2016 7:44:10 AM |

What's the best restaurant in town right now? On the way for a concert and need a recommendation for somewhere good for an early dinner that doesn't have a strict dress code. Normally Magnolias is my go to but willing to try something new. Also, are there any good breweries downtown? 9/17/2016 12:06:31 PM |

since we were between lunch and dinner services all of the good places were pretty much not available. it started pouring rain while we were walking around so we ducked into the nearest place, which happened to be Fire Street Food. It was actually pretty good, but I was disappointed we didn't get to enjoy any low country food while we were there. it's all good - I'll be back.
also, is Charleston the top destination for bachelorette parties? I must have seen a dozen of them just from the 18 hours or so that we were there.

If you had one night (by yourself) in Charleston, where would you eat/drink? Also, that night is St. Paddy's Day...
Haven't been there in years and never been by myself.
Also, if anyone has an recommendations for things to do/drink/eat on or near Kiawah that would be even better. I'll be there for a few nights with coworkers. 3/15/2017 2:39:19 PM |

Depends on what you're looking for.
I'd just go to the Husk bar and drink some good bourbon and have a Husk Burger or go to Edmund's Oast, sit at the bar, and have some awesome food and great beer (they have good cocktails too). Plus side to Edmund's Oast is that you're half a block from Home Team BBQ, which will normally have live music and a pretty good scene on Friday night. If you're not feeling that place, then The Royal American is more of a dive bar (but still very popular spot) that also has good live music on the weekends...its a couple blocks from that.
Charleston isn't a big St Patty's day town. Sullivans Island, Folly Beach, and Park Circle (North Charleston) all did big celebrations, but they already had theirs this past Saturday.
The Royal American's music calendar:
http://theroyalamerican.com/schedule/
Don't see anything happening at Home Team...but that would be a good place to grab a drink in between Edmund's Oast and The Royal American.

Edmund's Oast is my favorite restaurant in Charleston...and their beer menu is nuts (their house beers are great too). Their bar is pretty packed on the weekends, but since you're only looking for one seat you shouldn't have to wait too long.
Home Team also has a late night menu (wings, double patty burgers, etc) til 1 am if you get the munchies. Their wings are amazing (smoked, fried, tossed in dry rub). 3/15/2017 4:52:46 PM |

Date night tomorrow - recommendation for dinner?

The best places are probably booked, so you're looking at no-reservation spots.
Downtown: XBB has some of the best food in town if you like Asian/heat (it can get a bit spicy). Little Jacks has a very simple menu..but it's delicious. Can be a fancy or casual spot...kind of depends on you (although I just checked and they do take reservations...they've been blowing up with press, so might be a tough seat). Butcher and Bee is another reservation spot...but they've got a lot of seating and people don't always think of them for dinner (popular lunch/brunch spot, but dinner is delicious). If the wife and I have a random night off and don't have a resy, we either go to XBB or try and get a seat at the bar at Edmund's Oast.
Mount Pleasant: Langdon's, Opal, or Wood and Grain. All three are owned by the same guy, but he pretty much makes the best food in Mount P. I know they're all reservation spots (except for Wood and Grain...new and more casual), but Mount Pleasant just doesn't book up as much as downtown, so you might be able to get a spot.
Those are my recs. 8/11/2017 1:00:10 PM |

Definitely recommend Opal. Great charcuterie selection - acorn squash bisque - lamb chops and my wife had the ricotta gnocchi - finished with the chocolate almond cake.
Stopped in at Crave for some drinks before dinner - cool spot but a bit too hot for us to sit outside.
Hootie and the Battery game were fun despite the Battery playing horribly
