Yea I used to love the lower level artillery, but now that I have the Su-8, I am far less of a fan. The biggest gun barely damages higher level tanks, takes forever to aim, forever to load, and a slow firing shell. And each shot I take costs over $1000 a shot. The earlier levels were far more fun when I could take out guys in 1-2 shots and had a good chance of hitting people.

I'm actually in a Grille, trying to get to the Hummel. :/ I've been doing better, mostly because my crew is getting better, but the damage is still very low. I mean, i'm going up against tier 6 and 7 on the regular, it takes like 3 hits to kill them unless I snag the kill from someone else. It is very laid back, but i'd rather be playing in my TD's. God knows I love my TD's.

FINALLY got KV-3. Hopefully I can grind and get the IS while it's still on sale tomorrow. We'll see. Also about 2,000 xp away from JagPanther TD, which I'll get once it goes on sale...

I finally got the upgraded radio, suspension, and mounted the 107 on my KV-3. All crew at 75%. But there is no way in hell I can grind up to that IS tank by 6 am tomorrow. More power to you if you can Hiro. Would help if I was premium I suppose.

Hit the research level for the Su-100 and only a day or two worth of gold farming/selling unused tanks from owning that. Getting much better with the KV-3 now that I have gotten some of it upgraded. Still only on the 2nd level gun though, but that is quite adequate. May skip the 3rd level and just grab the top one.

^ which gun would that be? I was considering sticking with the 107 (once I get the research for it), but after taking another look at the 100mm, I've changed my mind. Reloads are faster by nearly 2.5 seconds/round, it is slightly more accurate, and the 8mm average penetration could be a make or break it when in a critical situation. I think the 2.0 second aim time and rate of fire are what sells me on the 100mm over 107mm.

I never really gave the 100mm consideration either, but it actually exceeds the 107mm in DPS as well. The only advantage to the 107mm is the increased damage per shell, but it doesn't correspond to total damage due to RoF. I may try it out and see how it plays!

Ran the 100mm for a bit, and I just can't justify the miniscule gain in penetration and RoF against the significant drop in damage per shot. I'd definitely advise the 107mm if it's an option, as it just feels like it packs more of a punch, and a well-aimed shot will reap more than the small gain in penetration of the 100mm.

tl;dr - Buy the 107mm.

Omg... 107 is perfect balance. Btw, jcdomini (Dominico092) is a helluva player. We've been teaming up and it's been great fun. I've got a long grind with the KV and KV3 ahead of me, but at least I've got the 107 for both. Now just gotta get the crew up to par and finish gathering XP to research remaining techs for other tanks. It's finally nice to have something that can put a hurt on T8 tanks.

Also, in game stats differ from the wiki stats I posted up. The 100mm isn't all that it's cracked up to be. RoF is 8rnds/min and aiming is 2.5sec. I don't know why the 100mm is offered, imo. The 122 makes sense, depending on playing style. All around, 107 is hard to beat. With 85% crew + vents, I was pretty consistent in sniping another KV3 at 450m. Took 3 shots to kill, 1 shot bounced. With 100% crew, I'm sure you could get 3 shots regularly.

On a related note, I killed a teammate by accident. My round went through a T-28, and hit a teammate on the other side, killing him. I couldn't believe it and I got called an asshole. I felt bad

^Haha that is fucking epic. I would love to get a one shot double kill, only I would prefer if both of them were the enemy.

I really do love the 107mm, and have it on three tanks. What pisses me off is that I am about to move up to the SU-100, and its weapon selection blows. They copied the KV-3 armament for it, except for one major difference. They swapped out the 107mm for a slightly improved 85mm gun. Previously I was just going to drop the SU-85 to get the -100, but now I am thinking that I might hold onto it, due to the fact that I enjoy that 107 so much.

I got a one shot double kill with a grille. there was an enemy IS3 that rammed a friendly tiger. The tiger was definitely toast, but I had a clear shot on the IS3. Direct hit on the IS3, but the HE blast killed the Tiger too. No hard feelings there, but it was unfortunate.

Now with an over penetration, I didn't think the round would still be lethal, but apparently so!.

I love my Hetzer, but I find myself playing the StuG III and the JagdPz IV more. The Hetzer is great, without a doubt, especially with that 105mm. Today for the 3x bonus I took my Hetzer out on Westfield and aparently I was assigned as anti-SPG. Ended up killing 2 SU-26, 1 Bison, 1 T-46, and an M37. All one hit kills, but I missed the T-46 once so I was 5/6. Oh it was glorious.

Aside from the engine, I've finally got the KV-3 upgraded to the max. <3 4.21 inches 107mm.

Today I played with the Hetzer and was top tier. There were 3 Hetzers on the other team and I joked that I was going to kill them all since there was only enough room on the map for one Hetzer. I pwned 6 enemies, 2 of them being Hetzers. Unfortunately, we lost to a capture, but the discussion of the Hetzer's 105mm intrigued my enemies as none of them were fully upgraded like mine. An M3 Lee called BS when he went heads up vs me and I killed him with one shot at ~200m. I quickly informed him that with the 105, I was no match for him. He said he was going to give up the American line and grind to get himself a Hetzer. lol. Ended up with Reaper, Top Gun, and Sniper that round.

^I had a really good round like your Hetzer round there last night, only I was in my SU-85. I was about 3rd from the top, so with my 107 I knew I could take out most guys in a shot or two. We setup on Ruinberg and I headed to the far left of the map planning to ambush enemies as they came to the square. Quickly sniped like 4 guys and then came around the edge to get the cap because no enemies were around. While defending the cap I got another 1 or 2 and ended the round by capping the base while 2 of their heavies tried to lumber back to defend. I only ended up with Reaper, but between me and a guy that died, we combined for like 10 kills of the 12 total enemies knocked out. Very fun game, especially considering I was front line fighting with a lightly armored TD.

Managed to research the Patton and IS3, and I'm close to researching the T28 tank destroyer too, but not near enough cash for any of them. I did elite my Pershing though with full equipment and crew on their second round of skills training - man, that little medium can be so much fun!

I just played the game of my life. The really tough part was towards the end. I had about 50% HP left and there was a SU-5 and M7 Priest left with 2 min left on the clock. I couldn't possibly go out and kill both or try to cap (El Halluf), so I stayed in the middle part of the ridgeline behind cover. Enemy artillery was spamming a lot this round and I think the SU-5 was out of ammo, scouting. AFter about 90 seconds of cat and mouse, I finally take out the SU-5, with only 25% HP remaining (I got hit once by the M7 during this extravaganza). 30 seconds left, nothing for me to do but wait. I wait.. and wait.. and 10 seconds left, I decide to peak around the corner, as it was suggested by a dead comrad that I might be able to see him in the valley below. Sure enough, the M7 was on the run. 5 seconds left on the clock, I take aim. 2 seconds left, I shoot, praying my crew can still maintain concentration for this critical shot. It lands, instant kill. Game over. I got to collect my achievements Oh this was by far my best and most exhilarating match ever.







I think I just fell in love with my KV.

Putting it up to a vote, as I can't make the decision myself. Which do I buy first?

-Patton
-T28 Tank Destroyer
-IS-3

I'll only have money for one, but they're all researched and I have 23k of free xp waiting to drop on the first upgrade for any of the three.

-If I go for the Patton, I'll be getting the tracks for 23k XP so I can mount the highest tier 90mm gun, which is what I have on the Pershing now. Potentially disappointing until I get the epic 105mm gun, which is an additional 46k XP of a grind following the tracks.

-If I go for the T28, I can mount the 105mm from the T25, and then get the tracks and engine with the 22k free XP, leaving me 63k XP to grind out for the big 120mm gun.

-If I go for the IS3, I'd have to grind out to 44k XP total (an additional 21k XP) to get the BL-9, which is an improved 122mm gun that has ~220 pen and 390 damage, so a step up from the IS. However, this comes with the glorious IS3 armor.

Ideas?

I haven't played any of the tanks you've mentioned, but I'll throw in my 2 cents.

If you are DYING to get into a new tank, I would have to say either IS3 or T-28. Too bad they had the HT sale a few weeks ago, where you could have saved a lot of money on the IS3. Probably will be a long time before they have another sale. I don't think the T-28 has been on sale lately, nor the Patton, so you could always hold out for them. I'd personally hold out for a sale on the Patton and T-28 but the vote goes:

120 is okay for damage, it still lacks since it's a Tier9 gun, while the other Tier9s get X guns. T34 is overall an under performer for it's category given how good IS-4 and E-75/4502 is.

T30 on the other hand is scary...

T-29 Is my nemesis.

FINALLY got my KV-3 Crew to 100%, and their secondary Tooling skill is at 36% or so. I've been getting better at hitting those T-29's in the belly whenever possible. T-29, Lowe, KV-5, and Type 59 are all in my nemisis category. A part of me dies whenever I confront one on the battlefield...

Today, me and another KV3 Took out a T-95. I tracked it more than 10 times while the other kv3 pecked at the rear. Fortunate for me, The T-95 track would be fixed right as my gun finished reloading... Had an Oh shit moment when I crit hit him in the track, but it didn't break (wtf?) I was at his 2 o'clock and had to start turning. Fortunately, other guy covered me, got him tracked, and we finished him off. It was an epic game finisher.

Also hit a T-50-2 going full speed perpendicular to me at 399meters away. I couldn't believe it that I rejoiced in my chair. While celebrating my excitement, a Hummel shot me, got me down to about 5% health, engine caught fire, and I died in the flames a second later. But damnit, I hit that T-50-2!

Next time I get on WoT, I'll be the proud owner of an IS, but it'll be stock for a while. I still need to grind another 10k xp with the KV-3 to get the 122mm D-2-5T. I've got 7k free xp, but I'm going to need to save a lot of it for when I decided to spend credits on a JagdPanther. I'm ready to grind through some Tier 7 tanks to start getting to the heavy weights in T8 and T9, as I hear T7 tanks blow...

I've got ~2.3M credits now, so I'm just shy of purchasing an IS-3, or at least that's the plan. However, the T28 and Patton are still tempting, and I'm nearing 30k free xp, so I should be able to get one decent upgrade on any new tank.

Not really enjoying the new IS. I mean I am excited about the potential, but it's stock so I'm not thrilled at the moment and the crew is "Fresh" at 75%. I've got 4 more open slots, which I hope to fill with Jagdpanther, Ferdinand, and Jagdtiger, and IS-3. Once I get the Hummel researched, I'll sell the Grille and have yet another slot open for the IS-4. I don't see myself playing as an SPG often, if ever again, after the Grille.

I've got a long grind to get that IS-3...

Well, just as Hiro scored the IS, I managed to pick up the IS-3. Going into it (and having faced it), I expected it to feel like the KV-3 in terms of armor, and unfortunately, that doesn't quiet seem to be the case. Initially, I was charging the front lines and gunning like mad, but I kept getting torn up.

I've been focusing more on teamwork and sticking close to other tanks, as well as advancing a bit more slowly, and it seems to finally be paying off. Granted, I could really use the pen of the BL-9, but it's nice to have the beefy turret armor, as well as the other mobility upgrades. It seems like the IS-3 isn't any good at directly eating hits, but if I catch a stray shot here or there, or a shot from any lower tier tanks, I can typically bounce it. Also, the armor is pretty excellent at absorbing HE shells - I took a direct hit from a Hummel and only lost 200hp!

tl;dr - Started playing the IS-3 as an idiot and hated it. Stopped playing like an idiot, and I'm starting to like it, but I need the BL-9!

With the IS being a stepping stone for the IS-3, I'm pretty sure I'll sell it as it will be on par with the KV-3 after the patch/update. I can then transfer the crew over to the IS-3 and save me some trouble in crew recruiting.

Oh, here's a "funny" story. Earlier in my KV-3, I went heads up versus an AMX 40. Should be a no brainer easy KV-3 win right? -_- ~200 meters away, my first 3 shots bounced. 4th shot was a one hit kill with my 107mm. First bounce I was . Second one I was . Third one I was . I shouldn't have had to work that hard for that kill, especially since the first two were solid hits. The third one was a graze, so I can reasonably accept that.

Damn, all I want to do is grind grind grind...

Hah, speaking of strange hits - I was in the IS-3 up against a Slugger and landed two clean frontal shots on him with the 122mm, both of which left visual holes in his armor. However, the first only did 9 damage, and the second only did about 36 damage. Now, I'm no expert, but I definitely was shooting AP and I thought if you penned (didnt bounce) then you would do the listed shell damage +/- a small factor. Any guess what happened?

My IS makes very little monies on victories. Maybe 4-8k credits on a victory. If I lose, I actually lose 2-3k credits. Yeah... Not cool.

Best offense is a Killer defense, hence I'm a better TD player than HT player And playing an HT as a TD just doesn't cut it... You think it would be okay, but... Maybe it's just cause the IS sucks. No. I've heard really good things about the T28 Prototype. It's plays just like a Slugger (m36), but only on steroids.

I played a little bit today. Got the D2 and AMX 38. Trying to work my way up the French ladder to get to the AMX 12 and/or maybe AMX 13 90 for a cash grinder... I know they nerfed the french pretty hardcore, but given my "hang back and support" playing style, I think the hard/fast hitting french HT might fit me like a glove...

Just got the Top Tier 122 mm D-25T for the IS. I can't tell you how many times the slower rate of fire in the 122 mm D-2-5T got me killed...

Also, just 5k xp away from the Hummel. I can't wait to get rid of this Grille!
