That is the single dumbest statement I've ever read.

And I'm willing to bet anyone that there will not be 9000 syracuse fans at the game

eh, it probably has a little bit of merit to it. you can't get single game tickets to the UNC game* (i think), have to buy other ACC games, so that helps, and people buy those far in advance. this game is a little different.

that said I don't expect to be overwhelmed by the amount of syracuse fans in the arena on saturday, probably more than the average UNC game, but I doubt it's by much.

I don't know that I've ever seen a syracuse fan. Who are these local fans and why are so many expected to becoming from the DC area? Is that close in that posters mind?

I'm sure there will be plenty of Cuse fans in the house. Considering it's a new york school, and most new yorkers only really support their teams when they play well (with the exception of the mets), there will probably be a convoy of them up from Charlotte to watch the game.

That said, they'll still be outnumbered 20-1. This is the biggest home game for us in a lonnng time.

As someone that grew up in NY state, let me weigh in on this and put your minds at ease.

College sports is not a passion in NY for anybody. What we call casual fans in NC are called passionate fans in NY. Aside from the very few in all of NY state that are directly affiliated with Syracuse, nobody up there is really anything more than a casual fan at most. It's simply that there's no other college sports program to affiliate yourself with, so most people in the state will call the orange as their favorite due to lack of competition. So needless to say, don't worry about the very few Syracuse fans at the game, there will be more Tarheel fans dressed in Orange than actual Syracuse fans.

GO PACK!

North Carolina State University - 88
New York State Child Molesters Association - 81

[Edited on December 15, 2011 at 12:29 AM. Reason : ^^^ to ncsuftw, you can't compare NY hockey fans to NY college sports fans, it's apples and oranges]

Wouldn't UNC fans want us to win this one? It could have big implications for them come bracket time.

It's showing me as being selected in the lottery from a few days back for my student ticket, but not letting me print it out. I took off for this game, and if a stupid computer error won't let me go...

Cuse is good but they're obviously not quite on the level of a Wisconsin or Kentucky or something.

These guys are definitely beatable and we tend to play towards our opponents level.

The weird thing about Syracuse as they are one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country (we suck at defensive rebounding) and one of the worst defensive rebounding teams in the country (we're good at offensive rebounding). So the game may come down to who can hold their own on the glass.

What we should be worried about our turnovers. They force an extreme amount of turnovers and they protect the ball really well. We do the opposite on both ends.

We've performed well against the zone so that doesn't worry me too much, even though we have no one on the team that can shoot besides Wood. We're good at working it inside against the zone.

They block a ton of shots and we never get blocked. Not sure which way that battle goes... we're pretty athletic so I like our chances.

Hopefully the refs don't fistfuck us like in the Stanford game. I think we've got a great chance to pull the upset. But in all likelihood it'll be a game that we lead for the most part and then collapse down the stretch against a better team.

I like our chances as long as Wood doesn't get into foul trouble.

this isn't entirely true. CJ Williams is averaging over 50% FG's on the season. Yeah, he's a spotty shooter, but he went 3-6 for three-pointers against Stanford. To say that no one else on the team can shoot is far-fetched.

This has always been one of the keys to beating Syracuse's zone. Hopefully Gott makes Howell, Leslie, CJW, etc relentlessly attack the offensive glass. Tip-ins are there for the taking. We're going to end up taking a lot of deep shots and a few ugly shots against their zone -- every team does -- but we can nullify it by crashing the boards.

As far as beating the zone, I think Alex Johnson is going to have a big role. Praying this is the game his season-long shooting slump comes to an end.

This guy claims to have NC State season tickets. By most games he must mean the ones vs Elon and NCCU in November.

I really don't expect there to be an abnormally large number of Syracuse fans there. We had 16,000+ for Arizona after graduation last year and I don't remember seeing many Arizona fans. This one is the day of graduation...you know tons of people are going to stick around for the game that night.

It'd be cool if ESPN did their college gameday there (not that they would anyway) but the graduation stuff would have prevented that anyway

That's a shame. Setting up and doing the Gameday morning session from an area with a view on the graduation ceremony would have made for a nice image.

"They seriously think they will outnumber State fans at the RBC PNC?"

http://www.wral.com/business/story/10504562/

Raleigh, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes aren't leaving their home in Raleigh, but they will be playing at a different arena before the season ends.

The purchase of Raleigh-based RBC Bank by Pittsburgh's PNC Financial Services Group means that the RBC Center, home of the Canes, North Carolina State University men's basketball, concerts and circuses will get a new name.

As soon as March 2012, those events will call the local sports and entertainment venue "PNC Arena."

The naming rights agreement got preliminary approval by the Centennial Authority Thursday. It is subject to regulatory approval of PNC's planned $3.45 billion acquisition of RBC Bank, USA from its parent firm, the Royal Bank of Canada.

Peter Karmanos, majority owner of the Hurricanes, issued a statement saying, "We are happy to be associated with this well-regarded national franchise, and look forward to working with PNC in the North Carolina community."

Jim Rutherford, president and general manager of the Hurricanes, said, "PNC has sponsorships of several other nationally respected venues and is a strong addition as a major partner and official bank of the Hurricanes."

I guess that's why people don't really obsess about whether or not Basketball Gameday is coming to down, since there's no chance for a solid run to make them notice you.

That's a bid disappointing, but I guess CBB just doesn't get the kinda ratings you need to justify shifting travel arrangements around on short notice.

Scott Wood 56.8%
CJ Williams 26.9%
Alex Johnson 23.3%
Lorenzo Brown 17.6%

I stand by my initial statement. When I say "no one besides Scott Wood can shoot" I'm not saying no one can physically pick up a basketball and hurl it towards the goal. I mean when compared to other college basketball players, no one else on the team can shoot. We're not actually saying this is the earth calling you, Matilda
