Does Lonnie Poole have a boat right there. There is one called "waste knot" with state flag on it.

First bigger catfish of the year, fought very strange...immediately ran towards shore and into some heavy grass. I had to wade out into the water to get an angle that wouldnt doom me. I was thinking it may be a turtle heading for land but it took off so fast

Next trip up -- this Thursday evening -- Carolina beach - 2 shark rods, 1 kayak and proper supervision of course

June 2/3 24hr overnight trip, only $170 this time -- if you want to carpool I have room for 1 more leaving from Cary noon Sat 6/2/12

http://www.captstacy.com/TripsRates/24HrOVERNIGHTBottomFishing/tabid/69/Default.aspx

Black sea bass season will be open at 5x pp 13" tl and you get to keep 10 on this trip. I caught well over 20 last trip I was on, can't wait to kill em. Also going after a monster, got hooks that won't bust this time, I've never had a fish break a 6/0 circle. I lost 30+ lb Cobia bust off under the boat last trip too

^I'm interested but I can't go. Curious how your experience is with Captain Stacy (or whatever the charter company is called). I've lived (next) to Atlantic Beach my whole life, and seen that boat everywhere (downtown Morehead).

Boat I was on today...the boat that my boyfriend is the mate on...is currently in first place in the Mako Mania Tournament in Ocean City MD. Today we got a 213 lb mako. OH yeah...good 50 lb lead on the others!

slammed the fish this weekend. 129lb total fish between my sister & I. Caught my first ever mahi mahi. Saw them swimming around the boat so i casted a chicken rig out with little weight and pulled it along the surface. One hooked up immediately and the other chased him around until he was also hooked. So I caught 2 at once...fight lasted maybe 20 seconds before I slung them over the side. They're very fast but at that size they have no fight. I really thought we'd catch more BSB but instead the silver snapper were on fire. We probably caught 10+ each but can only keep 3 pppd

12 black sea bass
20 vermiillion snapper
14 grunts
6 silver snapper
3 pup mahi mahi
2 sand tiles
11 ringtails
3 bar jacks
1 almaco jack
1 red grouper

Many more small shark, grunts, vermillion & silver snappers thrown back

You keep saying "we", why arent you in the picture? Is your BF the one giving the hang 10 sign?

I really hate competitive fishing, there was no reason to kill a shark like that. Such macho bullshit. So there were 7 people on a boat to catch that fish? Seems like an offshore circle jerk to me.

I didn't pay for the charter...I was just riding along. That's why I wasn't in the picture. That was the captain and the mate and then the 4 guys that paid for the charter.
I helped out with what I could. But honesty it does take a couple of people to catch a shark. You have the angler that is reeling the fish in. The captain that is driving the boat and keeping the fish in the right spot. The mate that is directing everyone around, setting the bait, rigging the tackle, leadering the fish, getting the tail rope, gaffing the fish. You needed one other person with a gun to kill the fish, because no one wants a live 200lb+ shark on the boat. Another person with a tail gaff for a fish that large, and then you want someone to take pictures.

Not to mention getting the fish on the boat takes more than just one person.

You know what they did with that shark after they brought it back and won 10k? They took the meat home. I got some meat too. The shark didn't go to waste. Mako sharks actually have commercial value, because they are an edible shark. They caught several other makos and blue sharks and released them because they weren't big enough or not the right species. No point in killing a fish that will go to waste.

Only difference between them shark fishing for a tournament and them shark fishing for fun, is after the tournament they had a lot more money in their pocket.

specialkay seriously?

we kill a lot of fish when we catch and release them, you cant act like that doesnt happen. ESPECIALLY when we fight them for extended periods of time...you cant seriously think that fish recover in most situations because they do not Sharks are really in no danger around here. Im sure if they had caught an endangered or protected species theyd cut the line without landing it.

basically youre saying we should stop fishing, you dont even make any sense. YOure complaining about 7 people being on boat? they didnt all foul hook the shark and bring it in at once. What are you talking about?

you voiced objection to that crap but said nothing about the idiot that I posted that was loading fish with lead to win a tournament. your priorities are skewed badly

You and your buddies sitting in a boat on Jordan catching 4 and 5 lb bass in the dog days of summer is just as likely a circle jerk that probably kills just as much fish as these individuals on a charter fishing for shark

Yes, I object to tournament fishing, and esp offshore catch and kill fishing. They spend a ridiculous amount of money and burn a ton of gas to run offshore and catch and kill a top predator for no reason other than bragging rights. Im glad the tournament had a catch and release part as well, but bringing a big fish like that in is just not something I agree with.

The reason I brought up 7 people on a boat is because I dont understand having all that many people just to take one fish. They dont take turns reeling it in and they are just out there running around burning gas and waiting. I dont really see this as fishing.

Dont get me started on that guy, id put a fucking hole in his boat if I saw him. Like i said, I hate tournament and competitive fishing and cheating at it is even more egregious. It burns me up to think about the bass that ride around in live wells all day and then are released(with most of them dying)

Quote :
"You and your buddies sitting in a boat on Jordan catching 4 and 5 lb bass in the dog days of summer is just as likely a circle jerk that probably kills just as much fish as these individuals on a charter fishing for shark"

Really? Seriously? I have a 13' boat and I fish alone 99% of the time. Other than catching crappie, I am catch and release. In the summers I am on the water by 5am and off the water by 9am and release everything I catch. They are all caught shallow and the water is not yet warmed up. Dont give me that bullshit. I have been a lifetime sportsman and was brought up to conserve our resources. Slaying a top predator to prove yourself is the furthest from conservation that I can think of.

Tournaments suck, tournament fishermen suck and they are terrible for conservation of our waters. I cant tell you how many times a glittery bass boat has rolled up and fished right on top of me because I was on the spot he needed to fish, or how many times a tourney fisherman has been fishing the back of a creek and run out of there wide open through the middle of small boats fishing the mouth of the creek.

the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has included the shortfin mako on their list of "managed" pelagic sharks. The NMFS has reduced the number of commercial and recreational shortfin mako catches allowed per year by 50% in an attempt to counter act its declining numbers. However, the NMFS regulations apply only to the United State's Atlantic and Gulf waters. Also hastening their population decrease is their slow reproductive rate.

The shortfin mako is listed as Vulnerable (A2abd+3bd+4abd) on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species

so you show me where this permitted charter run within a tournament is in violation of harvesting excessive mako sharks

im not the biggest fan of tournament fishing, so i side with you there. But I mean, I dont see catching a shark as a chest beatingt thing. They ate the meat, they enjoyed the sporting endeavor of fighting and landing it, thats why we fish

Im not jumping on you because I think you and I are similar in philosophy. Im not one that treasures one species over the other as long as it is caught in a sporting manner with minimal wanton injury to the fish and habitat. I just find it odd you jump on her because the shark is an "apex predator" In many microenvirons theres an "apex predator" and many of those have been caught in this thread and you said nothing, but you jumped on sawahash for what ever reason.

Because offshore top level predator fishing tournaments are nothing more than chest beating, money waving competitions. Hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in gas burned and a $500 entry fee to go slay a vulnerable top level predator.

I was bashing on her because she kept saying "we" and that she was going to win a new car. She just rode on a boat, she didnt fish.

Did you read anything I said?

There were 4 guys that paid for the charter, plus the captain and the mate. My self and my boyfriend's dad rode along. Because we didn't pay for the charter we didn't fish. We just enjoyed our time out there and talked shit.
There is a video, but I don't think you can embed videos from facebook, of how much work it took to get the fish on the boat. They probably could have accomplished everything they needed with one less person there.

Also when you're shark fishing, you don't troll. You turn off the boat and drift. You burn more fuel going for dolphin and tuna than you do for shark.

Quote :
"Tournaments suck, tournament fishermen suck and they are terrible for conservation of our waters. "

Pretty sure people who make a living off of fishing want to conserve the waters just as much as you do...seeing has how that's how they make their living. If there aren't anymore fish to catch then there is no more fishing to do.

You wanna get made at someone get mad at the Japanese who catch bluefin tunas with no care to how big they are or how many they get. It's the Japanese that are over fishing the bluefin. Soon there might not even be a bluefin season and there will be a lot of fishermen out of jobs because of this.

It's almost like you just have an issue with offshore fishing. Your bass is the top predator when it comes to the bugs that hit the water. This shark just happens to be the top predator when it comes to the other fish in the ocean.

I said "we" once...in the sense of I was on the boat and WE had a 213 shark on the boat. I'm sorry that I used it in same sense of saying I'm in a car with other people that happens to have a bag of birdseed in the trunk so WE have a bag of birdseed in the trunk
I was just freaking proud of my boyfriend and bragging about what he did. Sorry that I confused you with using one word.

My point exactly, you are advocating this and then going out and killing a vulnerable top level predator. I dont kill any bass, let alone killing the biggest ones I catch.

So you don't think people should eat fish? Or should we only eat fish that is alive?

Also, those comments were made when I was actually going to fish in the tournament...but then plans changed and my boyfriend got a charter to get paid to fish...I'd rather him get paid to fish. If we had won the first place he had promised he would help me with a down payment for a new car...there was a point where I was going to get to fish, but plans changed (because that is just so uncommon) and I didn't get to. From now on I will make sure I keep you perfectly updated on if I am actually fishing or just riding along.

You are fucking stupid if you think that that tournament had anything to do with eating fish. Those rich fucks could have cared less about the meat. If they wanted mako meat they should eat the less mature ones and help conserve the older breeding population. It takes a female 18 years to reach 50% sexual maturity and a male 8 years and you are going to put a fucking bullet in its brain all for a fucking tournament check. It has nothing to do with the fucking meat. They only take the meat because they dont want to be complete douchebags. Plus there is plenty of mako shark to be eaten that is taken as bycatch. Mako sharks are currently being taken at unsustainable rate and you went out and killed one. That isnt conservation, and that isnt protecting the resource that your bf make a living on.

I haven't tried the Continental Shelf out of MHC. They have trips 1st & 3rd weekends in July. The 1st weekend is a "limited access" trip so it costs $200 but only 40 people max. $175 for the other trip. Capt Stacy goes out the 2nd & 4th weekend and costs $170 but the boat is a bit more run down. Great crew though

I've never gone out on a headboat...not sure if I would like fishing with that many people. I really like going out on charters though.

BTW....the Blue Marlin in the Tournament today weighed in at 499.3 lbs. I was 32 lbs off my guess when I saw it. I'm getting really good at guessing the weight of a fish now.
