Nice game for Rodney last night. His two best games this year are against BC. Reminds me of how Wood would light up FSU and kind be blah against other teams. Hopefully last night's game gets his confidence back.

Will appreciate more if he can get Randle to come here.

His passion about the game and his emotions are amazing. Hope he stays for a few years, because I think he'll be pretty amazing come Junior year.

Purvis is quickly becoming one of my least favorite ncsu players ever.

Openly rooting for UNC all the time makes him a fucking faggot and it doesn't help that hes been a huge bust so far.

Stop being such a douche.

I must have missed the rooting for UNC thing. What does he do?

Aside from that (if true), how can you not like Purvis? Sometimes it seems like he's the only guy who hustles on the whole team. If he gets his FT shooting under control and starts finishing more shots next to the rim, he could be lethal.

Purvis is boys with Bullock and Hairston. Probably grew up playing with and against them.

It's a non-issue obviously.

Besides, Bullock and Hairston have had great seasons so far without much smack. they just hustle and get their points.

Sportsmanship dictates that you at least acknowledge what they have accomplished as an opponent.

lots of players for 'rival schools' are friends with each other

its the fans that perpetuate the hate-filled rivalries

i know i for one hate many UNC fans a lot more than I hate Bullock or Hairston

Please shoot 500 FTs a day before next season.

This is make or break for his career. If he can shoot 75% he's an NBA prospect. If he's still at 50%, he's at best a guy that plays in europe for a couple years

^^This. It's absurd that a guy who shoots 40%+ from three shoots in the 50s from the line. Of course, every player on the team not named Lewis needs that for next season.

i'm glad someone is finally speaking the truth, that improving his FT% will singlehandedly make him an NBA prospect

THAT'S THE ONLY THING HE HAS TO DO

Word on the street is that NBA scouts are not satisfied with the amount of smiling he does on the court and that will need to be corrected before they'd even consider him in the late first or early second rounds. Coach Gott has been working with him on at least 500 frowny faces before each practice.

If he doesn't fix that my guess is that he has a short run as a rodeo clown in Europe for a few years before fizzling out and running the local party clown circuit for a few years until he drifts off into obscurity.

People on here are fucking idiots

It's assumed that he will improve in other aspects of his game but the FT% is an outlier right now vs where his other skills are at. He'll learn to finish better and to play better defense with game experience and practice. FT% is not a game experience driven stat, it's a practice stat

i think some people would disagree. it's different practicing in an empty gym as opposed to in a arena when play is stopped and thousands of people are either quietly staring at you or screaming at you.

I remember Reggie Miller speaking about FT shooting on NBA on TNT one night after dwight howard went like 3-17 from the line. He compared it to hitting a golf ball. All muscle memory, concentration/the ability to zone everything out.

^^ yes, because a mid 20's 7ft NBA center makes 80% FTs in practice, But sucks in games, practice wont help Purvis

Great point

^^That's probably true for a professional athlete. Purvis is an 18 year kid who's playing in front of thousands for the first time.

^I don't think anybody is saying that practice won't help. I'm just saying he's probably not a shitty foul-shooter just because he doesn't practice enough in an empty gym.

Who cares if they are friends he doesn't need to be a tar heel fan boy tweeting let's go heels every game. Gay.

Yeah and the last thing nba scouts are worried about is his ft% his ball handling, driving/ finishing ability are what he needs to work on

what's your point? apparently lewis is better and more comfortable at shooting free throws than purvis. different players perform differently, you know?

what do you mean what's my point? I thought it spoke for itself. They're both 18-year old kids playing in front of thousands for the first time.

Sort of a weak excuse to make for Purvis.

Different players adjust differently.

I guess you support boobs point that he is a poor free-throw shooter because he doesn't practice enough and "needs to shoot 500 a day".

purvis can jump and probably has a really good 40. that's about it for him athletically though.

oladipo is an all around freak athletically. he has crazy long arms and is extremely quick on top of the two things purvis does well. he has also improved massively every year. expecting that out of rodney wouldnt be fair.

he kinda reminds me of the guards villanova used to have (wayns/fisher, not reynolds). except they had better point skills.

I support Boobs' reference to Reggie Miller: muscle memory, concentration/the ability to zone everything out, which is done with practice, repetition, and game experience. If you can do that, I think you can shoot consistently anywhere.

Obviously Lewis has figured that out, and Purvis still needs to improve

You can't use an argument as a cop-out to someone where the same argument can be made for someone else. They cancel each other out. If Lewis was a senior, that would be a different story: he'd be about 22 and would have played hundreds of games in front of thousands of people; then I would understand your point.

haha, that's some serious logic right there! so by your logic, if there's a 10 year old somewhere who can shoot 95% free-throws, there's no reason any able-bodied person shouldn't be able to match that. since scott wood can shoot unguarded spot-up threes so well, vandenburg should be able to too if he just practiced it more!

if I'm the coach talking to both of them, I'm not gonna say, "Tyler you're shooting 84%; good job! Rodney you're shooting 53%, but you know, I understand because you're a freshman, you're only 18, and it's your first time playing in front of thousands of people."

You're right about that. But we're not coaches talking to our players. We're message board monkeys trying to discuss why Purvis shoots better from three than from the foul line. I'm just saying, it's obvious that Purivs isn't comfortable shooting free-throws in the spotlight. I have a feeling his ft% jump next year.

Whether you want to single out purvis or not, if our team was even an average FT shooting team, we would probably have at least another win or two in the ACC. Purvis is just more obvious because he gets to the line quite a bit.

And although NBA scouts may not factor in his FT%, they are damn sure gonna notice the difference between 12ppg and 16ppg.

Didn't we have some engineers write a paper about how to shoot a free throw that results in ~75% shooting for anyone that uses that form?

We shouldn't have anyone shooting well below that % (can knock a few points off for in game situation) given that type of resource.
