I'm not wrong about stiemsma, the guy is just that good. Don't forget he put up those numbers last year while playing with plantar fascitis.
You're a baseball guy nym so I expect you to be pretty familiar with statistics. There has never been any evidence that a persons per minute numbers won't stay consistent when you go from 15 minutes to 40. In fact, per 48 min numbers are remarkably consistent in the nba as long as the guy is getting 5-10 mins per game. 7/12/2012 12:11:07 PM |

Not matching for Lin so you can sign Felton is the most bizarre move ever. Not only is Lin significantly better, but he's worth an estimated $1 billion in revenue. What the hell are the knicks doing. They could've been contenders with Lin. 7/15/2012 4:04:19 PM |

Disagree with both of the last two posts.
Lin was playing at a very high level before he got hurt. Not to mention this was his first playing time ever and he's young so he may still improve. He's not overpaid relative to what other guys at PG make who produce similarly, he's actually underpaid if he plays at the same level. He's barely making more than Ramon Sessions and hes making half as much as Russell Westbrook.
Second of all it shouldn't even be a basketball decision. Lin is worth HUGE money because of his marketability and revenues he could earn abroad. That money can be used to buy other talent. The knicks have now lost Lin and Fields in the same offseason, that's going to be tough to recover from.
Disagree that Miami can just run through the lakers. Miami was looking OLD this year. With another year of wear and tear on dwayne wade who knows how he will play. Can't count on bosh to find his game again after two straight seasons in decline. Battier had a tough year too sans the finals. Rashard has been awful for a few years and had a spectacular stink fest in the playoffs even when he was still good.
It's going to be tough for Lebron to overcome all of that, particularly since Boston may be stronger next year and Chicago obviously will. Just don't see how they matchup with LA. La will benefit a ton from getting the ball out of kobes hands the whole game. 7/15/2012 9:06:42 PM |

^ I've posted that twice already he's worth an estimated $1 billion in revenues.
$8 million a year for a good starting point guard is a steal, I can't believe he didn't get a max deal honestly. $10m per is prob about fair value for him based on his ability, so add in his profitability I can't believe someone didn't max him. well the Bobcats did supposedly draft their PG of the future in the first round last year, though so far it doesn't look like he'll pan out
Lin selling jerseys to people in China might make MJ some money, which he'll subsequently gamble away, but its not gonna help him sign any good players to surround him, this isn't baseball
besides, if the Bobcats signed Lin to way more than he's worth based on starting only 25 games in his NBA career, who is he gonna pass it to? (or try to pass it to when he turns the ball over 6.4 times per 48 minutes)] 7/16/2012 1:50:14 AM |

I'm sure there are some concerns with his durability and if he couldve kept up his great play all year but you certainly cant question his production. Those 25 starts have to rank as some of the best ever for anyones first 25 starts in the league.
The knicks have spent hundreds of millions of dollars on guys no one has wanted like Francis, curry, amare, al harrington, etc and then they get the goose who lays the golden egg and they can't come up with $8 million??? Bizarre to say the least. Why not just amnesty Amare?? Then they could resign Novak, Fields, and Lin and be a top team instead of blowing the whole thing up like this... 7/16/2012 8:08:27 AM |

luxury tax is 1.75 on the dollar so yes i did estimate/make it up. 5+5+15+(luxury tax of 10x1.75=17.5 on the last 10 they would be paying 27.5 million for him in that 3rd year. not happening.
Obviously they would keep him if it were as simple as you guys think. 7/16/2012 1:50:29 PM |

Nothing worse than uninformed people who feel the need to give their 2 cents
Quote : | "The Knicks are expected to be over the luxury-tax threshold for three straight years by 2014-15, and repeat taxpayers will be subject to the harshest of luxury-tax penalties. If all of Lin’s $14.9 million salary comes in over the threshold, the first $5 million will be taxed at a 2.5-to-1 ratio. The next $5 million will be taxed at a 2.75-to-1 ratio. The final $4.9 million is taxed a 3.5-to-1 ratio. The math shows the tax alone on Lin’s final year would be $43.4 million, meaning the entire bill that season could be $58.3 million. " |

The Knicks need to match Lin's offer and do whatever it takes to unload Melo and/or Amare in order to avoid that luxury tax nightmare in 3 years. Lin's value off the court is simply too high to let him leave. Gotta give credit to Houston for trying to fuck over the Knicks with a back loaded offer to Lin. 7/16/2012 4:52:28 PM |

hey guys i think you're missing a few key points here:
The knicks are idiots for screwing this one up, there's no debate to be had here.
1) They wouldn't be deep in luxury tax zone if they didn't you know acquire Jason Kidd and Raymond Felton in lieu of Jeremy Lin
2) 3 years, $25 million IS about $8 million per year. That's nothing for a good starting PG in the NBA. Particularly when he's a STAR off the court capable of making huge revenues for your organization. We all know Kobe isn't worth $25 million as a basketball PLAYER, but as a superstar I can't argue with the Lakers paying him huge because he generates revenue for the team. Those revenues allow the Lakers to go way over the salary cap and put a super team around Kobe.
3) WAAHHHHH the Rockets paid him $15 million in year 3 its a poison pill! Here's a fucking thought. Instead of waiting for the Rockets to dictate the terms of the contract, offer your own contract. Did anyone think of this? There's no rule that says you have to check to your opponents and let them dictate how much to bet. Just bet the fucking hand yourself.
4) Amnesty Amare. The guy is clearly washed up. How could you possibly justify bringing him back for three more years over a 24 year old global superstar? I mean did the Bulls let Michael Jordan get away just to keep Charles Oakley?
This is one of the ALL-TIME dumbest business decisions in sports. It's not even close. On top of that it's a bad basketball decision. Felton flopped hard last year. Kidd jesus christ was the Rookie of the Year in 1994. That's the same year the movie Rookie of the Year came out I think. In 1994 people were talking about things people in this generation have never even heard of like HIV, men's tennis, Rwandan genocide, and Selena.
Go ahead, I'm waiting to hear ANYONE try to justify signing Jason Kidd and Raymond Felton over an international icon PG. 7/16/2012 9:17:48 PM |
