Canes told they're out of the running for Suter. Time for Matt Carle?

"Carolina, which has made an earnest push to acquire Nash, could be the first club added to Nash’s list, sources told The Dispatch. The Hurricanes have changed their perception this summer with last month’s blockbuster trade to acquire center Jordan Staal from Pittsburgh, and GM Jim Rutherford doesn’t plan to stop there. He wants to push the Hurricanes among the Eastern Conference’s elite clubs. "

Part of me is disappointed because I wanted to see us make a big splash, but the other part of me is extremely relieved because I knew any trade for Nash was going to involve some really painful losses. Now we've got to figure out where to spend $5 million.

No way we let Skinner go.

Per the twitters:

Quote :
"@ice_chip
Rutherford won't comment on Nash situation. Said Canes could have interest in Doan, Semin. Reading between lines: Canes are moving on."

I'd be ok with either Doan or Semin. Semin jokes are too fun.

Shane Doan would be a fantastic addition. I would be all about Semin as well, though I know I'm in the minority there.

A short contract for Semin would be ideal in my mind. Staal/Staal/Semin. that's a hell of a top line.

Yeah, that's why Semin would be a great addition in my mind.

It's bad that it's come to having to hope for Semin but at least he wouldn't cost the assets that a trade would. Sign him for one or two years max and see if Muller can get the most out of him. Otherwise it's going to be a whole lotta Rosie/Staal/Staal.

Semin may be talented, but he's so damned lazy and whines all the time. Is that the kind of player the Canes want?

I don't want to seem like a hater of the Canes, but I'd agree with that assessment.

JR played it up so many times about how we finally have the money to spend which is why I get concerned about the trade speculation. Like others have said, I think ponying up a one year contract for Semin would be good to try out. We're not a deep team and giving up pieces just to gain one guy who has scratched a 70 point season once is just stupid.

We finally have money and there are barely any top tier FAs. Such is life as a Canes fan I guess.

Teemu Selanne is still available. Plus we'd get an AARP discount.

we're going to spend that money in a trade. we've got too many forwards around, including the kids. Something's got to give.

I feel like we see a signing of someone like Semin, but also a non-blockbuster trade where we ship out one of our offensive/puck-moving defensemen like McBain or Pitkanen.

Is that the girl who came out a few times with the broken leg that took about a decade and half to rattle it off, or is that an older reference?

ah, thanks. wasn't in NC at the time so i missed that rendition.

the broken leg girl from this past year (or maybe the year before) and the old guy who takes 5 seconds just to get oh out before getting around to say can you see can also be thrown out of the permanent replacement sweepstakes.
