Its funny when this show came around. While I have very big problems with the show not being true to its characters or being completely fair to the stories they are recapping, it did articulate a lot of the problems I have with my party (Republican). Quite honestly, I am sick to death of my party. I am sick to death of the stupidity I see by party members online everyday. It seems as though everything is Obama's fault, and most of my party members have lost any ability to think critically. Disgusting. I am seriously at a crossroads. I am not a Democrat. But I am clearly not with the Republican party. And the tea party members and supporters can kiss my ass. In twitter, if I see 'Patriot' and 'Tea Party' in their description, I immediately know I'm dealing with a complete dumb ass.

^I agree almost 100% with you and wish the Republican party didn't care (or rely on) religious conservatives. But I feel like the episode that dealt with voter ID cards was crap. Anyone can get a gov't issued ID card. You don't need a driver's license. But they conveniently left that little tidbit out.

I would say that the republican party as a whole has pushed more to the right just to counter the liberal left. Liberal moderates used to be the ones in power; now it's the progressives.

It's not usually very easy. Generally for the new voter ID laws you need to have proof of 1) name and date of birth, 2) identity, 3) residency, 4) Legal presence. If you have no drivers license then no. 1 usually requires a birth certificate which many people lose or misplace. In North Carolina, it can take at least 3 weeks to receive your copy (unless you are able to travel to Raleigh, which not everyone is). It also costs $24, plus $15 to expedite. If you can't recognize how all of this is a pain, and will likely prevent people from being able to vote, all for the added benefit of nothing really since voter fraud hardly ever happens... then you are an idiot.

I'm a little late to the party but I just got through watching the full first season. I used to work at a newspaper so that is what got me interested in the series to begin with. I think the depiction of life in the newsroom is pretty accurate, especially the insane, exciting and out of control atmosphere when big news breaks.

Like some people have said, I wish they focused more on the stories and the newsroom itself, rather than making this feel like a romantic comedy. The "will he, won't he" story with Jim and Maggie grew tiring, and while towards the end of the season Don seemed less of a douche and I sympathized a bit more, I could do without the subplot distractions. I enjoy the show more when the drama is generated by the stories themselves.

A few other observations:
-I love Sloane's smart and sexy character and for obvious reasons I think she should have more screentime. I really hope they don't end up having her get with Douchebag Don though.
-After big foot, it didn't seem that subplots with Neil could get even more ridiculous, but spending company time trolling on the internet is about the dumbest thing I think anyone can come up with. I hope ACN doesn't pay him.
-I hope the next season uses less contrived and predictable plot devices like the power outage or the Sex and the City bus scene with Jim. It would make it feel less like the sitcom it sometimes does now, but maybe with Sorkin that is wishful thinking.
-Even though his involvement with the news room seems unrealistic since he is just supposed to be a body guard, I like Terry Crews and hopes he stays on next season.

I still don't understand how people can have TKE-Teg's attitude about the voter ID laws.

In some states, it is not easy to get a government voter ID card, AND THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF THE LAWS. They are purposefully making it difficult for people to get the IDs in order to suppress the vote. And they have been totally open about it. They have said that they want to make it harder for people to vote, and that, by doing so, they believe they will increase Republicans' chances of winning. In case anyone is just learning about this topic, I also want to be clear that in-person voting fraud is not even an actual problem that needs to be addressed. Absentee voter fraud, on the other hand, is a bit of a problem, and eager Republicans have done nothing to curb it...hmmm, I wonder why?


I believe that most of the voter ID laws will eventually be overturned or made impotent, but they have already impacted voter registration dramatically for this election. I want to be emphatic...the voter ID laws are the most obvious/pointless affront to our civil rights in decades. There have been laws that have affected small groups of people. And there have been laws that affect everybody, but there's some apparent benefit to them (like "public safety"). But the voter ID laws affect huge swaths of the population for no reason at all; state governments are straight up like, "Screw you and screw your right to vote." How can anyone be on board with this?

Maybe we just get amped about stuff too much so people are desensitized and don't care. But, if there was ever a time to get excited, this would be it.

Voter ID laws = medicine that is worse than the illness


All principled arguments about fraud are just a smoke screen to hide the bottom line: voter id laws are just a sneaky way to target democratic voters. Has nothing to do with making elections more legitimate.

It would be like making a law that says you can't register by mail and could only register at post offices in person. That would obviously favor people in cities, meaning democrats.

I feel like last season the show wrapped itself up for the most part at the end of each episode. I think that was one reason why I liked it. Hope they are not changing that premise.

I kind of enjoyed Sunday's episode, though some of that was one-dimensional characters making an about face and becoming not-awful (Don and Lisa), even if only for mere seconds. Maggie is still insufferable and the Genoa storyline is so telegraphed it's painful.

I shouldn't have doubted sorkin. Last several episodes have been excellent as we got to the payoff of the Genoa story. When they focus on the program/process and not as much on the relationships it really works well.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Genoa storyline in general, but Will, Charlie and Mack all trying to resign and failing and then changing their minds at the last second was beyond awful. Does anyone buy the "they're noble and principled journalists falling on their swords for mistakes largely beyond their control" crap Sorkin's been peddling as even remotely plausible?
