why doesn't this fall into the same category that the "slap skate" in speed skating did a few years back (a skate design that allowed longer contact with the ice resulting in higher energy efficiency and faster speeds)
They were beating the pants off of everyone and then everyone adopted it and now it's the norm.
Beyond a basic track shoe, running is essentially an equipment free sport... so for this to become adopted as acceptable "attire"...
