I'm conflicted. If I actually agree with something this racist shitbag, BlackJesus says, does that mean I'm a horrible human being as well?

Sportsmanship is something only losers complain about. Don't want the score run up, maybe play some defense. Don't want to get beat by 20m in the 100m dash, go train to get faster.

Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser.

Really? Nothing? I guess you didn't see Galen Rupp's silver in the 10k, the first medal for the u.s. in that event in 48 years.

And Leo has been in the u.s. forever, went to university of texas. I have no problem with him carrying both flags, considering his origins are mexico. If he had JUST the mexican flag I would understand the annoyance, but he's proud of both his home countries.

you represent one (1) country when you participate in the olympics.

waving the mexican flag was extremely inappropriate. get that shit out of here.

so, for example, you were born and raised in america, but your parents had come here from ireland not long before you were born. you compete for the u.s. and win a medal. as you're doing your victory lap you get tossed an american and irish flag. you don't think you'd consider carrying both around?

the guy raced in a usa uniform, he's proud of his background. people who make a big deal out of minor stuff like this are ridiculous.

I just don't understand it, so I won't hate.

I realize it's not the same, but if someone threw me a north Carolina flag I'd tell them to gtfo

It's come to my attention that the United States is a nation of immigrants. Weird.

And no one would be upset if someone's parents went to UNC and they grew up a UNC fan but played basketball for State...and after beating UNC in basketball someone tossed him a UNC hat and he celebrated wearing that hat...yeah bullshit.

well it was a mexican flag, not north korea.

and one of the main points is he had BOTH flags. Like I said, if he JUST had a mexican flag, i'd be kinda pissed too.

I'm comparing allegiances. If you're going to play for the school you should celebrate for that school. If you're going to compete for any team, you should celebrate by representing that team only.

It doesn't matter what your history is, who you history is, where your history is. If you're going to compete on any team, you allegiance is to that team.
You can show support for other teams. Especially if you have a history with those teams.

If you're going to compete for a country you are representing that country. Celebrating by representing another country is not showing your allegiance to your country.

and in all honesty I don't even know what is being talking about so it is totally possible that I am making a retarded argument. I'm just bored right now and putting off doing the things I need to do before starting my new job tomorrow.

You don't really understand what sportsmanship is. Not surprised. What you're describing is more like mercy and pity.

What I'm referring to is after winning not disparaging your opponent, or after losing not trying to cut down the winner. You won, great, you're not going to build yourself up in the eyes of others by badmouthing the losers. You lose, that sucks, your not going to make your losing any better by trying to chop into the winner. You can be pissed that you lost or elated that you won.

^^^ Yeah, I'm down with being a classy winner...I don't like showboaters or shit-talkers or whatever. Beat the bejeezus out of the competition, and then play it cool like there was never any doubt what the outcome was going to be, anyway.

...but I'm not down with pulling punches during the competition. If you can beat them 150-27 or cross the finish line when they're only halfway done, then so much the better.

Not being an asshole is one thing, but when most people complain about "sportsmanship" it's the kind of thing I'm talking about. I'm not in favor of giving your opponents the finger after the race, but if you can beat them by 100 points you try to do it.
