The US definition of sleet is those little pellets of ice you saw today (not hail which forms differently). Freezing rain is liquid rain that freezes on contact with surfaces (this is what you see in ice storms with glazing). Today most saw at least a little sleet. Snow is being reported in the Triad this afternoon.
