...against Cleveland State. Its entirely possible to watch a game against an opponent like this and not think that we look that great even though we won a game with 80 points and a good margin.

Definitely a poorly played second half. Don't think our guys learned anything from that.

People who are happy with so-so performances against crap teams are idiots. This stretch can be really bad for us because it will make us think bad play is ok.

We are still a ways from where we ended the season last year.

We looked like we could have turned it up another 5 notches at any point in the second half if we were ever threatened. Realistically we weren't going to learn anything about this team from this game. It was a fun game to watch, leave it at that, this game means nothing in March.

Look, guys, no one is saying our team is terrible. No one is saying our coach is bad or needs to be replaced. No one is saying our season is over. No one is saying the team should be perfect in November and December.

People are rationally and accurately commenting that we need to fix a few things before conference play. We do have some issues on defense we need to work through, we do need to fix a few things.

^^^^^The problem is that I don't think any of our players would ever believe that "bad play is ok" or good enough.

They're not idiots, and they've been playing basketball for a long time.

So the issue with some of your comments is that it presumes things about the players that just aren't true. They're all trying to improve, and they're all aware of issues with defense, turnovers, rebounding, team play, etc...but you talk about them as if they're dummies who happen to randomly be good at basketball. Your tone is a little patronizing at times.

^^You are actually assuming a lot about what our players think or know. Until they show they can reliably defend a basic ball screen or at least speak in detail about how to play defense correctly as Mike Snaer did during halftime, then I won't assume competence.

And actually, TWW is pretty old now, and some of us probably have seen more basketball than what these guys have played, so we know what looks right and what doesn't.

This is NCSU, so we are also used to seeing a team finish a season without ever living up to its potential. Last year was an exception where we played most of the season at an average level and turned it on. So there is a question of whether we just got lucky and will we regress to our norm.

I'm liking Purvis more every game. Warren is still playing lights out, I keep expecting him to go in a funk. Lewis had 2 awful turnovers - we need him to improve and give some good minutes through the rest of the nonconf schedule.

Brown played his smartest game, using his size advantage when necessary...but only 1 TO? Does the 5-second count not count as a TO? Leslie was same ol' Leslie...my biggest gripe with him is I wish he'd box out.

Wood obviously didn't have a good offensive game, but he'll bounce back. And Howell continued to be the MVP of this team

The team is not magically going to become good at team defense. If the upperclassmen haven't learned position/help/team defense by now, they aren't going to in the span of these ~20 games. And by the way Gott is recruiting, thats not going to change.

The team focuses on reaching for steals/blocks for defense to create the fast break. Sometimes that backfires, especially with foul trouble. Gott's most important job is keeping the defensive intensity up (regardless of their positioning) to create these turnovers. That and free throw shooting. I liked both the intensity and free throw shooting today, so I'm happy with the win.

They've won 27 & 22 games last 2 years, won at Vanderbilt last year, and made the NIT in both. And we won comfortably. Sure we need work on defense, but our offense is a thing of beauty.

Fact: If you look at just the last 10 national champions, the average losses per season is 4.9.

Besides, there's no need to look at our current loss total or some extrapolation of our loss total to see that we aren't even remotely close to a national championship caliber team.
