It would be great if the A's could give Scherzer his second loss tomorrow and sweep dat ass on the road
Will be happy with the series win. A's need it BIG time.

^^, Verlander is 12-10. Detroit is still built for the playoffs with the strongest 3 man rotation out there. Oakland is playing desparate at this point. The rain helped out tremendously night before last. Colon has got to get back to pre all star form and Anderson has to take his spot back. A's schedule is brutal including today and next 6 games after. Need to take 2 of next 4 and 2 of next 3 after that against Texas. Escape down 2-3 with a nice easy home stretch (SEA/LAA/HOU).
ETA- Can't believe Texas won't lose without Hamilton. And Cruz going away. They are on fire.

srsly. Lowrie, Callaspo, BARTON, and Vogt have us up 4-0 already on Sherzer!
you may notice that we turned the corner after this DET series on remaining SOS vs. TEX. A's have a have slightly easier schedule down the stretch... especially compared to BOS, TB, and BAL.

I don't really agree with this. Oakland is playing like they did the first half of the season. August and late July they played like absolute dog shit, but everyone forgets that the A's are capable of hitting a lot of HRs, and they also forget how good our pitching rotation is when it's healthy.

I guess this means Jaso's concussion must have been really bad then? Thats not good... he was one of my fav new players this year, played well, and obviously has potential to be even better still

I don't think he's over worked. Would be 8/8 from Det/Tampa/Tex including Ver, Schur, and David Price. Heart of the nasty schedule is over for Oak and Texas runs a much tougher schedule. Need to take one of next two from Texas and it's looking good on paper. 9/3/2013 2:52:40 PM |

Sweep would've been nice, but I will take an 11-4 pounding and another tie for first.
Worried about Colon though- a deep play off run starts with solid pitching and he was our main man for a while...

hey we've got Anderson coming back (who keeps getting shelled in garbage time though)...
also interesting tidbit - gotta attribute to our fabulous GM:
Quote : | "From 2007 to 2011, Brandon Moss was on three different teams and his career line was .236/.300/.382 with 15 HR in 749 plate appearances. And he had just completed his age-27 season. He joined the Athletics in 2012, and since then he is hitting home runs at one of the highest rates in all of baseball.
Highest Home Run Rate Since Start of 2012 Season Chris Davis, BAL 7.9% Miguel Cabrera, DET 7.8% Edwin Encarnacion, TOR 7.4% Adam Dunn, CHW 7.1% Brandon Moss, OAK 7.1% *HR rate: HR as percentage of at-bats" |

I think everyone who understands baseball "called it." A 100 win season is considered to be a great season. This equates to 10-6 in football, which has been left out of the NFL playoffs (which have 12 teams, not 8 or 10 now) in the past. Parity in baseball is like no other. That's why your top 3 starters need to be better than the other team's. 4 and 5 have a much bigger impact in the regular season. This is why Detroit I'm guessing is the WS favorite and they will be lucky to finish with the 3rd best record in baseball.9/6/2013 1:29:03 PM |

No. The Astros are fucking terrible. There's no good reason the A's should be losing this many games to them this late in the season. The fact that the A's can beat teams like Detroit, Pittsburgh, Tamba Bay, etc and completely forget how to play baseball at times is precisely what I was talking about- they play to the level of their competition. It's eerily reminiscent of another team I follow so closely... 9/6/2013 3:07:41 PM |

His OPS last year was .954
It is .832 this year. While it is still better than I thought, i was right in the fact that he could not maintain that level

I think Oakland is like 12-4 against Houston this year? I'll take that winning % against the worst team in the league every year. It just so happens that two of the losses were after the break (I think) and Balfour is sole reason for one, not the whole team. I'd let Texas see where their chips land this next week before reading Oak the riot act about Houston.
ETA- 3-4 against Houston since the break, one of which was a big time blown save. Two more to play.

sand robot can't read. lol
^ I'm not really sure what you're trying to argue with me? I never said the A's season is over. All I said is that they have a tendency to play down against shitty teams (see: Houston and LAA recently). They have had several chances to run away with a lead and blown them.

Naw, not arguing but cherry picking any 1-3 games can go either way in MLB. I'm sure there was a stretch even for the 01 Mariners where they played poorly against an inferior opponent in a game or two. Especially when you consider the A's are 12-4 against Houston this year, or maybe 13-4, have to check... 9/6/2013 4:55:11 PM |

A's dont really have that 'WC Ace' since Bartolo has fallen off recently. Really would like to eek it out over TEX. Anderson hasn't looked like it since his return, and honestly didn't look very good to start the year before his injury either.
As long as TB and PIT have some playoff-hungry fight left in them vs. TEX coming up next week, we're still looking good. Just need them to lose more than we do down the stretch 9/6/2013 8:55:32 PM |

Will take 15-4 against the Astros, although it could've easily been 17-2 or 18-3.
Hoping TEX falls apart and we keep up the momentum at MIN and during the final road stretch 9/9/2013 12:40:08 AM |

19 games left.
ESPN has us going 11-9 and winding up with 94 wins.
Based on TEX's schedule, I can't really see them going 14-5, which is what they'd need to do to overtake the lead if we were to go 9-11. Will be very interesting to see how this shakes out. 9/10/2013 4:37:59 PM |

I probably watch 20-25 innings a week and I swear I see all the bullpen meltdowns even though the bullpen is rock solid. It feels like I've seen all of Doolittle's, Cook's, and especially Balfour's meltdowns. That was a tough game to lose. But as Fosse said, those were not cheap homeruns. Cespedez's running blunder in the 8th turned out to be huge.
I'd like to have a 3 game lead when Texas and Oak square off. Puts a lot of pressure on them. 9/11/2013 11:10:45 AM |
