why'd you take your kickers so early

i like the first one better...you waited on your QBs and didnt take quite as many injury prone guys

Good question on the kickers - this league drafted K and D/ST way too high for some reason. I'm a Ravens fan and I'm partial to Tucker so I snagged him when he was still available. Silly I know but I wanted him. The rest of the draft I'm happy with. Both seem solid to me.

did you really take Rodgers 3rd overall?

I have my draft next week...if I somehow get the last pick, and therefore the first pick of the 2nd round, and Megatron is there for me, what do people think about going either Megatron and then Dez/AJ Green, then picking a few running backs after that? I normally wouldn't do that, but I've been thinking about that strategy this year

Also, when I did a mock draft, I got a pretty solid team but most of the studs all had the same bye week. How do people feel about drafting based on bye weeks? Try to mix it up enough where you have no more than one stud on bye per week? Or draft to have a lot of people with the same bye, to just concede that week, while having a good shot at winning the others?

I would do that in a heartbeat. Megatron & Green are the two best/most reliable receivers and having both is a bigger advantage than getting a second tier running back.

[Edited on August 23, 2013 at 1:20 PM. Reason : I did that last year in one league. it worked beautifully. ]

I had too. It's a QB heavy point league. I agree Megatron and AJ. I'm also a huge fan of Julio Jones.

^^^Then you're taking RBs at like 36-37? I just don't know what kind of production you're going to get, where you could still get a solid #1 or still very productive #2 wr on some teams. I'm pretty sure no matter where I'm drafting I'm taking RB/RB first two. Maybe if all the top RBs are gone I'd go wr/RB, but I think you have to grab one.. Maybe that's why I'm not all that good most years though

And I like trying to get everybody on the same bye week. Throw one week, have a better shot at winning every other one

I don't even know where I'm drafting, but if I did the Mega/AJ thing, I foresee my top 7 or so picks being:

Mega, AJ, RB, RB, RB, RB, QB

or something like that...grab up a few Deangelos or Chris Johnsons or whatnot

the idea is that you make up the loss in production from the #8 rb by having the top two receivers. as in there is a larger drop off from the two best wr to guys he could get in rounds 3/4 than there is from running backs at the end of the first round compared to the third round.

But that's not really true. According to ESPN projections and ADP, for standard scoring, here's how it would play out:

440 for Megatron+AJ
332 David Wilson + RunDMC

447 Trich + AMorris
346 for VJax and Cobb

I just went by ADP for my selections, for the next available. I'd much rather have the second team. Based on ESPN projections, the discrepancy is 20 points, or 2 points per game. Not a ton, but definitely not a landslide towards the early WR pick.

Chris Johnson won't be there at #30, you'll be stuck with a bunch o David Wilsons and Darren Sproles, and Dangelos as your starting RBs.

I have the #9 (out of 16) & #11 (out of 12) in my first 2 money leagues. Been doing some mock drafts here and there, and whenever I don't take 2 RBs in the 1st two rounds, I hate my teams in general.

Side note...does anyone know of a good website to do 16 team mock drafts? I generally use Fantasty Football Calculator, but they only go to 14 teams.

I argee that taking CJ and AJ back to back is not a wise move. The NFL is so QB dominated right now that there is good depth at WR while good RBs are hard to find.

WR is so much deeper than RB that going WR/WR with the first two picks doesn't make much sense unless the league has some wonky scoring settings

QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, RB/WR/TE, DEF, K & five bench spots

It's a 1.0 PPR league where kick/punt return yards count, so that give you some more options for the flex spot. Certainly does make RB depth quite scarce, but I like the challenge!

i'm not advocating everyone should consider taking 2 wrs in the first 2 rounds, but it isn't as ridiculous as you all make it seem. it's risky for sure, but this isn't war, it's fantasy fucking football.

to me, the RB's from #10-#30 aren't that much different. they're all marginal starters/injury plagued/platoon guys/rookies who's value could change wildly during the season. if i think i can snag a couple solid starters out of this bunch in 3/4 i might pull the trigger.

this year i probably wouldn't go wr/wr, but it's because of TE depth. the way i look at that position is you either get jimmy graham or you want til the end and grab a guy at the end. so i'm looking for graham in round 3 and i can't go 3 rounds without a RB.

You're right, LeSean McCoy and Alfred Morris are the same as David Wilson and McFadden.

Seriously, it is as ridiculous as it seems. There are significant tiers in RB this year, and if you go WR/WR you are falling off the fucking Pointe-du-Hoc of fantasy football.

I've always been someone to load up on quality RBs early. But in a PPR league, WRs are a little more valuable than standard leagues. And there are ALWAYS going to be running backs that either nobody drafts, or that get drafted in rounds 12-15, that end up as top-30 backs when the season is over. I remember Cadillac Williams being a round 1-2 pick a number of years ago, then he got hurt, I scooped up Earnest Graham off waivers, and he got me like six consecutive 100+ yard rushing games. I drafted Ridley last year in about the 5th round and he ended up being a solid weekly play.

The idea of getting Megatron/AJ and then loading up on Deangelos and McFaddens can work out, if, and its a big if, a guy like McFadden can actually stay healthy, or the Panthers' offensive line begins to gel a couple weeks into the season. Normally I'd be more likely to pass on Megatron at 7 or 8 in favor of a running back, even though I could still get a pretty solid back in the 2nd round, but I'm just throwing this strategy out there. I obviously hope I have the 1st overall pick and draft ADP. Even though he could tear his ACL in week 1.

Just completed my 16-team PPR draft w/ passing TDs 6 pts, 1.0 PPR, kickoff/return yards count.

Picked at #9 overall:

QB: Andrew Luck
RB: Trent Richardson
RB: Maurice Jones-Drew
WR: Roddy White
WR: Marques Colston
TE: Fred Davis
RB/WR/TE: Torrey Smith
K: Alex Henery
DEF: Patriots

BN: Jonathan Dwyer
BN: Bernard Pierce
BN: Brandon LaFell
BN: Brandon Myers
BN: Robert Woods

Overall, I think my team is well balanced. Obviously the bench looks thin, but I think there is definite potential. Some injury concerns with the starters, but figured I could take a gamble there. Had to take a QB early given the nature of the league in the 4th round.

First time running a league on CBS (only did it because we had free upgrade to their premium leagues). Draft starts goes through 1 round and then stops, saying it is complete after 1 round. I spend the next hour arguing with cbs about restarting our draft and we finally get it restarted shortly after 10. Luckily 11 of our 12 teams waited around, but needless to say it was agitating. Picked 10 of 12, but I have no RBs, hopefully I can put a trade together at some point. 1 QB, 2 WR, 2RB, RB/WR, TE, D/ST, K and 6 pts for pass TDs.

QB Andrew Luck
QB Big Ben
RB Trent Richardson
RB Ahmad Bradshaw
RB Leveon Bell
WR Calvin Johnson
WR Mike Wallace
WR James Jones
WR Chris Givens
WR DeAndre Hopkins
TE Rob Gronkowski
TE Jordan Cameron
K David Akers
Bengals D/ST

Got the 10th pick in a 10 team league. So I've got back to back picks. Obviously depends on what others do ahead of me do, but would I be better off trying to go ahead an snag two RBs since RB isn't as deep this year? Or maybe go 1 RB and 1 WR or QB (maybe Brees, Rodgers will be gone)?

It is a .5 PPR league btw

that draft might've just bumped your league into "mongoloid" territory. Great draft for you, but you must be playing with a bunch of idiots to land all those guys. You got arguably two top 5 RBs and 3 top 10 WRs with your first 5 picks

^ man that is an absolutely ridiculous first 5 rounds, you got really lucky.

Keeper question:
Percy Harvin didn't get drafted in a first year keeper league. What do you guys think about picking him up off waivers so I'd only have to give up a 16th Rd pick to keep him next year? My drop options for him would be Alshon Jeffrey, Ryan Broyles, Michael Bush, or Justin Blackmon (probably won't drop him).

Shit if I could get McCoy and Megatron at 10 and 11 that'd be a no-brainer. I'd be pretty shocked if McCoy and Calvin Johnson were both still there at 10/11. I'm kinda thinking AJ Green and a RB at that 10/11 spot but I'll have to see how it plays out. Calvin Johnson's Yahoo ADP is 6.9 and McCoy is 8.2.

Along these lines, who do y'all like better...Dez Bryant or AJ Green (0.5 PPR). I'm thinking AJ Green.

I normally play in 0.5 ppr, drafting tonight in 1 ppr.

How drastically does that alter the rankings? Haven't done one, but I imagine it pushes some of the WRs and pass-catching RBs even higher and really downplays guys like Lynch or Doug Martin that don't catch many balls. Does it push someone like Jamaal Charles to #2 and Reggie Bush into late first?

I would say that it would double the points per reception in your reception column for your predictions. Then you can sort accordingly.

^^^I dunno...they were there, so I kept picking them. Lemme show you some of the most retarded choices in that draft:

Victor Cruz was selected as the 4th overall pick....hahahaha.
Someone picked San Francisco's Defense as the 2nd pick in the 2nd round. hahahaha
Jimmy Graham was the 4th pick in the 2nd round.
Matt Bryant, yes the kicker, was selected as the 2nd pick in the 4th round...1 choice AHEAD of Steven Ridley.

This is a league with people from my work. Most of them, obviously, don't know much about football. I won the league last year.
